Been talking up Bobby Vega for a while. Gloriously fantastic player. Love his work with a pick but he's just as funky without. He played this. When he was only 16 or 17 apparently. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xql52v-fGAM

Where do you wear your wireless transmitter?
tonyf replied to MacDaddy's topic in Accessories and Misc
These days I tend to just stick it in a back pocket
Another one for the back pocket. I've gone down the "gaffer tape it to the strap" route but it's just not practical for me when (or usually if I have to) I change basses. Much easier to simply unplug and swap basses with their own straps rather than undo straps. Each to their own though. -
It gets harder and harder to keep weight off as you pass your mid 30s, plus your insides actually start expanding which is where 'middle age spread' comes from. Booze is the biggest culprit though and it seems to me the older we get the more we need!
Amen brother -

Interesting stuff so far. Like a lot of others on this thread, I'm at the same point where I need to be more proactive. I'm 44 and a type 1 diabetic (diagnosed when I was 10). My control has always been good and I've had no problems but I think my metabolism has started to slow a little as I've started to put a little weight on whilst doing the same and eating the same as I've always done. In terms of the gym, I've always found it hard getting the motivation to exercise but I think I've started to realise that it's a necessarily evil now. I guess for me, it's about making some sensible decisions and trying to at least make a bit more of an effort. As I don't like the gym, I've decided that there's other things that I can be doing. I went out last week and treated myself to some running shoes and there's my bike too. I'm also buying an electronic drum kit for the garage as that's something I've wanted to do for a while and that's gonna help as it's a bit of physical movement. I also need to cut back on the booze and eat a little more sensibly. It's tough at the moment as it's sobering that I've gotta sweat a bit but as they say, no pain, no gain. -
Getting right into the thread behind WOT who's Streamliner I now own. :-) I love mine. Can't really add much to what everyone else has said. I a/b'd one against the shuttle and decided the Streamliner worked for me more. Much warmer but still very detailed and oodles of power on tap. I love the fact that there's not a lot of controls to tweak to get a good sound straight out the box. It's very responsive so I've sound myself choosing "my tone" and then not needing to mess around too much since as there's a lot more of the bass and fingers involved in the tone shaping. Guess that's how it works for me of course. The amp can do "warm-fi". I use my head with an EBS ProLine 410 now (I know' I know, not exactly lightweight but man, it sounds the nads) and using such a detailed cab really helps bring out some of the highlights of the tone of the head. Again, works for me. Indeed, check the Ed Friedland demos out. They're really informative as to what the head will do. T
I'm thinking I may like something Orange and terrifying, or something Benz-y.
The Genz Benz stuff is absolutely boss Phil. You'll not be disappointed. If you fancy a trip over to Solihull to have a go of my Streamliner 900, let me know. Tony

A trip over to marksduk's bass "emporium" in Stratford-Upon-Avon on Sunday morning with an empty car saw me return to Chez Tonyf with a new cab. The new addition of a EBS Proline 410 with go with my recently aquired Genz Benz Streamliner 900. I'd used EBS Prolines in the past having had a rig consisting of a HD350 with 410 and 115 cabs. Whilst more than happy with this, I'd got rid of it in favour of a much lighter weight TC Electronics setup. Whilst this new setup was really good, I still missed the "special something" that I'd had in the EBS setup. Having tried a Streamliner a few months ago and being blown away by it, I had a sudden head-rush of GAS and brought one. I made a decision to keep my TC RS212 and RS210 cabs as they sounded really good with the Streamliner and gave me the option of a "modular" rig ie doing smaller gigs with a single cab, bigger gigs with both. However, whilst portable, the RS cabs are still a reasonable weight each and not a single hand carry. This means a double trip to the car on each load-in and de-rig. The bone-idle side of me has realised that I'm happy to sacrifice a bit of weight for the convenience of a single trip. More importantly, the power handling, sensitivity (103db) and impedance (4 ohm) of the Proline mean it's a fantastic single cab solution with the Streamliner. Not gigged with it yet but I'm really happy so far with the setup. The rig sounds huge, the cab is deep, ultra punchy and articulate but able to detail the warmth and colour from the slight crunch and breakup from valves in the preamp. Lovely. Re: the TC cabs, I'm still gonna keep the RS210 I think as the "small gig" cab. Genz Benz Streamliner vs Shuttle - what is the difference?
tonyf replied to Paul S's topic in Amps and Cabs
It would just, IME, give you more 'clean' headroom before the clever limiting kicks in and makes it sound like a more traditional tube amp being pushed.
+1 All IMO but having gone from a TC Classic 450 to a Streamliner 900 recently and done a reasonable number of gigs with it, I'm more "convinced" by the Streamliner's "valve'yness" than I was with the Classic 450. The Classic 450 is a great amp but I've just found the Streamliner more "cultured" and detailed. One thing I did find is that the Streamliner seems a lot more "open" and articulate in the top end (I'm sure the actual presence of valves in the preamp and a LOT more headroom help with this). From the limited experience of the Shuttle, that's even more brilliantly detailed but less coloured in the tonal options. The Streamliner for me goes from warm and clean to warm and crunchy to then outrageously driven and all these steps are thoroughly convincing. Again, IMO, but in comparision now, the Classic 450 is a bit "one trick pony". Admittedly, a great trick though In terms of "real world" volume, the Classic 450 and Streamliner 900 are pretty comparable, surprising that there's a difference in wattage. I've not found either amp to be lacking in grunt. As ever, see if you can find a Shuttle or Streamliner and give them a go so you can form your own opinion. T -

Ahhhh, haaaaa. Knew I'd seen something similar before. Great setup Dave, that looks the kinda thing I'd be looking. 1U for the amp, 1U for the Sennheiser wireless and 1U for a plate to carry the extensions to the ariels from the wireless. Love the 4-way bolted to the back. Great idea. Dave, do you know if Flightcase Warehouse would be able to do an ABS version? If it's not too personal a question, what was the approximate cost on this? Cheers Tony
KInd of defeats the object for me..go light, small and compact and then rack it to get close to where you would start with a full sized amp. The whole point of these mini amps...as far as I am concerned...is that you throw them in a bag and over your shoulder. Not a route I'd go down anyway until I find a mini amp that is as good as my full amp.
I can see your point but for me, it's not just the size/weight. TBH, the Streamliner IS as good as the full amp (an EBS head) it's replaced. In fact, it's an absolute killer amplifier and I'm chuffed with it. The fact that it's a third of the weight and size and three times the power make it even better. I'm looking at it from a purely practical point of view. I gig a lot with my two covers bands. I just want something that is quick and easy to setup and pack away at gigs. I currently use a Gigskinz case. It does the "throw it over the shoulder and away you go" thing very well but it's still "a thing" to take. The downside is that whilst it's portable, I need to unzip it, unpack the amp, power leads and speaker cables, unpack the wireless from the pocket, get the extension out and then connect it all together. That's taking a lot of time and hassle that I never had before, both before and after the show. In terms of the weight, with the Streamliner and wireless in a lightweight ABS, that'll be probably still be only a third or less of the weight and size of the EBS rig I had, all in a little box that I can carry in one hand and probably only the same footprint as the Gigskinz.
Have to admit, although it`s nice and easy having my amp in my leads box, so less to carry, I`ve also been thinking about putting it in a rack case, so all leads etc are already connected. Plug the speaker lead into the cab, power lead into wall socket, away you go.
Exactly what I'm looking to achieve. Just unbolt the ends of the rack, plug in and job done.

Get yourself a bart preamp to go with the pickups? I've always found the bart stuff sounds really good as a complete pickups/preamp ensemble. Alternatively, keep it simple and go passive, vol/vol/tone/tone and see if that does it for you? With you loving the sound of your passive JV, may not be a bad solution as it'd allow the more of the tone of the instrument to come through without a pre colouring it and it'd also match the outputs a little more between the two basses. Just my two cents.... T

I downsized last year from an EBS HD-350 + wireless + tuner in a rack to a Genz Benz Streamliner 900 but tbh, whilst the GB head is stunningly amazing, I'm really missing the convenience of dropping the rack on top of the cab, unbolting the faces of the rack and having all the speaker cables, power lead and effects loop leads ready to connect up. Has anyone racked up a class D amp into a lightweight half rack case? If so, where did you get one from and how much? T

Would really be interested in hearing how they work out as IEMs. In terms of putting together an IEM solution for my band, we'd probably have a couple of mixes out the two aux channels on the desk. One for the primary vocal mix and then another for the keyboard player with more keys in. With the Pipeline system, am I right in thinking that we could use a couple of them in transmit mode (on different channels) to send the two monitor mixes and then have one per band member receiving either one of the two transmitted mixes? Does it work like that? Can two or more receivers pair with a single device? T
