1. Those are proper pretty I was never a big fan of the original magnum or 2 but the 3 and 4 are right up my alley ... was the the brown or greyburst one ? how long ago are we talking ? , I saw a Brown finish in wunjo's few months back ... but these arent common basses so i wish her luck.
2. Remember ..its 80 trace watts :-P that equates to twice as many of your non British watts :-P Our rehearsal studio growing up in leafy hounslow >.< , long gone now had a full suite of various trace gear from these BLX to the GP's , I'd even borrow one for gigs where where we needed more oomph ... Ususally i'd swap the BLX for a GP from another room if we were in one of the smaller ones without it . Probably the reason why i stayed with trace later on .
3. Hah ha ,lovely bass shame about the headstock i've always heard great things about Shine / SAEIN music corporation There's also a rumour they manufacturer Harley Benton for thomman and they really do make great quality instruments from the far east . http://www.saein.co.kr/
4. Not to be cheeky , but what about this little bad boy im dribbling over in the for sale section http://basschat.co.uk/topic/274804-yamaha-attitude-special-sfg/
5. I used the Aria SB 400 mentioned here on the Aria website linked under *Rarities/Others* the owner Alain , mentioned on the site lived 3 doors down from my parents growing up and loaned me the bass as he was mainly a guitarist. I Learnt to play on the thing did my first gig on the thing ... had no idea what good bass i had until when i was going of to university, I gave it back to him i'd gotten my Thunderbird as i knew i couldnt take the SB out of london ..The Tbird also seemed cooler to the 18 year old me ... How wrong i was ... should have bought the damn thing off him > .< Nothing has ever compared sound wise to that thuddy SB strung with a set of massive gauge flats from the 80's the SB-400 was passive with a coil tap mini switch, volume and tone pots that were actually usable rather than " off off off > all the TONE
6. I actually spoke to she who dictates what enters and leave the house gear wise . She said ... "why do you need ANOTHER even if it is 3 pounds ..." So im not driving to slough ... even if it is only 20 mins from my work >.<
7. I said its NOT " actually 32 scale " ... but to me it feels like more slight instrument .. than say a fender type bass . My bad ' lazy / rushed wording while sneaking post's in at work without spelling and grammar checks . Dont get me wrong i love my SB even if it the poor man's version but to 6'5 of me it can feel a bit small compared to my Jazz , Tele bass or T bird
8. Just a word of warning Loon ... i'd call these medium scale basses ;-) its not ACTUALLY 32 scale but i'm sure its definitely a slight instrument then again i am a Giant . TRY Before you buy ;-)
9. The Hartke is a great option , but i'm going to let the cat among the pigeons and suggest this , http://www.ebay.co.u...SgAAOSw8-tWUK-F . This is Behringers somewhat naughty copy of the hartke kickback design ... it didn't last ,long as I imagine they got themselves sued , I've owned one for 10 years and they sound just as good as the Hartke its pretending to be ... very punchy and clean . Mines been my living room practice amp that doubles as a powered floor monitor for live use. They are relatively unknown and often go stupidly cheap on ebay and are rated for 120 watt 's, which is plenty for what you are going to need and as my long suffering better half would say. Way way louder than it should be for a terrace house .... Small gig usable especially with its DI and Preamp Bypass even has a useful headphone jack for midnight noodling . Just don't expect it to compete with an 4 X10 and head which its not ... the downside is ... its a bit weighty. full spec's here http://origin.behrin...cts/BX1200.aspx P.S please SOMEONE buy it to save me from driving to slough and getting another ... im sorely tempted on that advert. edit ..." spelling cleanup "
10. Browsing Ebay ... saw this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ovation-Magnum-Electric-Bass-Body-/272035988684?hash=item3f569bc4cc:g:T0sAAOSwhcJWOTKd little tear fell from my eye... i always wanted one of those magnum 3/4's in the Greyburst , well beyond my skills as i'm pretty sure its a custom neck pocket and if i recall they had a SUPER weird bridge and complicated PU arrangement. Anyone got a damaged body Ovation Magnum ?? or hates the weird body on there magnum / wants to put it into the later shape.
11. i did the same ... not sure about it really ...... it looks very odd ... and through body IIRC these hohner werent through body which makes me worry as to why the guy hasn't strung it .
12. I'm currently taking a punt on a hohner P bass But the bridge is ..... weird ?? anyone got any ideas on what it is doesnt look standard .... ?
13. Hi all I've finally decided to stick some ashtrays on my Bitsa jazz ... I mocked this up with some double sided tape to make sure i was comfortable playing with them and they work great for me as i favor ... thumb resting on the bridge PU . But i don't want to drill into my bass i'd ideally like a removable solution Ii used some 3m double sided tape and it held the bridge one nicely on and did just the trick but would not adhere to my vinyl / matt scratchplate . does anyone know of a better solution ? lyle / synth
14. Perhaps the right idea would be one of those old Trace Combo's like a GP7 SMX or something mines rated at 300 watt's .. after all you want the trace sound so why not get a trace, one of these shameless borrowing of someone else's basschat image ;-) .
15.
Completely agree about those kind of distances, and agree that if the buyer is travelling too then there should be no contribution expected. However, if a buyer in Scotland wants me to deliver their bass to them ( I am in Warwickshire) as they don't trust couriers and they don't drive themselves , offering to do so for petrol money is imo perfectly acceptable.
To be honest i think that's totally justified If i knew a person who wanted my bass and was willing to travel halfway to do it i'd be fair about it ...When people say from the outset ... Collection Only and there price is barely (adjusted for inflation) 20-40 quid below new price ... I've hit the back tab on there advert and i'm onto the next ad of interest. It'll be there next week ... month year ... and perhaps with a better price tag on it.
16. The Second hand market is an odd beast ... A item is only worth as much as people are willing to pay for it , but people look at comparable past sales and ebay prices and they remember the price they paid for the item new .... I'm not saying basses depreciate like cars but there's a reason there is a "glasses guide" for a 5 year old car , that pretty much all the dealers utilize. Its a buyers market , people have gotten used to fantastic deals like Thomman's and with shipping for free and a 30 day money back. In a world where you can get a new one for just a little bit more unless an item was exceptional / a great deal, the motivtion to buy second hand needs to both carry the risk that the item isnt quite right and the fact that the goods are used. I'm going to contradict bassman7755 it should be the other way around ... If you aren't willing to ship it ( especially at the buyers cost) ..You must be willing to accept a slightly below market value for your product . I don't mean this harshly or personally but its an interaction of supply and demand. By not being willing to do so you have shrunk your buyers pool to only those who are willing to collect in the immediate area to you , this means that if you live in an area where there is limited interest for a product expect it to not shift.
17. ... I get a great Chelsea dagger sound out of my jazz picking HARD right over the read pickup with the tone knob maxed via a Tubescreamer to my trace mid scoop off . and a fairly flat EQ
18. I've strongly hinted to the other half that for my approaching birthday ... that hotone could sit on my desk and mean i could get rid of my home practice combi ... * what she doesnt know* is it means my 1x15 trace cab which lives at the rehearsal space ... gets to come home instead
19. Another thing i had my eye on was one of these http://www.thomann.de/gb/hotone_nano_legacy_thunder_bass.htm Its a 5 watt mini bass head ... supposedly it will push 2X10 cab quite nicely ... but its got a very handy headphone jack The reviews seem good and some of the you tube footage sounds good ... anyone tried one .... apparently when the headphones are connected it doesnt shut off the Jack out so you can run it to the front of house "padded " and to your on stage cab simultaneously
20. No that's pretty much what why i'm going to have to bow out ... you don't happen to have that spare transfer knocking about do you i'd love to stick it on my nameless Bitsa and cut off the cross from the lyte to make a fender precision " l y l e " ;-)
21. Argh ... I'm very tempted by this, Its got my name on it and everything .... but .. I have a weird question ... Is it "small" ... not in scale length per say but actual physical dimensions. i'm a Huge Viking of a chap and as such "modern style'd basses somtimes feel a bit pokey"
22.
I just got one of these off of amazon for £21: http://www.amazon.co...duct/B00BK3VA5U Its a nux PG2, its no POD certainly but then my headphones aren't sennheiser either! But its got approximations of everything my pedalboard does and it clips onto my bass strap... EDIT: been mucking about with this all evening. Its really rather good - certainly for the price! I can get some nice basic bass tones out of it and it will also go full on Muse if i feel like it, and the amount of thud makes my headphones rattle.
Hrmm interesting, I've been using my zoom B3 multi effects unit for home practice, but but i'm considering getting a leave in place setup that I don't have to tear down 2 nights a week and that takes a line in as the zoom b3 will not. on the nux website i spotted this as "new product" http://www.nuxefx.com/product_detail.php?id=64&id1=40&id2=0 hopefully the price will be much the same once it hits amazon
23. I think that sometimes .... despite the name on the head-stock .. or lack of one in the case of my little bargain bitsa jazz ... the stars align in some god forsaken sweatshop and a damn good guitar gets put together ... quality pickups and tuner can be changed easily so the thing stays in tune and maybe has more tonal options . This is if something that just really works for you it means that you end up picking it up a bit more, and feeling comfortable using it which in turn leads you to better play , better familiarity and perhaps tone and style.
24. Im also a big fan of D'Addario Chromes which ive got on my jazz and status hot wires on my status .... and nylon tapewounds on my accoustic . I find the chromes have slightly more Bite ... which lets them be a bit more versatile.
