1. Poster above is quite right to warn about parcelforce and insurance but it's not quite true to say instruments are excluded from claims but the packaging requirements listed on their guidelines are so onerous they may as well be. No other courier is so demanding. The prosebass they carried for me looked like it has been machine gunned after they'd finished with it
2. that is a good idea,.
3.
, it depends on so many things, as a law student you should know that - the act is a whole lot longer than "should be of suitable quality and fit for purpose" and value does come into it, not that it should in this case but it does in the actual act in law, it's often down to what can be "reasonably expected"; which is why I suggested he contact experts on the subject. And even with law on your side you can't walk into a shop & take money you're owed from a till, you have to decide what you're going to do about it (been there, done that, T-shirts etc). It's very difficult, to have any of the relevant bodies actually enforce the law even when they say they can and would do, - again T-shirts to show for it. As I said, so many things have happened as to negate many points of the sale of goods act - and why I suggested some of the things you now have a few days later; eg. 2nd opinion without having work carried out being one, too much time passing as to invalidate others. Photographic evidence can - and has been - considered invalid if you can't also prove it's the exact same item in question.
I apologise for not being quicker off the blocks, I get time to read this board when I get time. It does indeed depend but I also know that County Court judges (if it goes that far in these cases) generally go for their gut feeling about who's played by the rules and who's being naughty without actually bending the law too much. They seem to reach these decisions very early, judging by what I've seen. Its not like a simple sale of goods case would ever reach the court of appeal with its associated costs and there are no minutes. I've won every SOGA case I've taken to court by following SOGA good practice. I do agree its hard to get public bodies to act, and its got harder recently. Youre pretty much on your own.
This would also appear to be irrelevant discussion since the OP has said a few times now that he's actually prepared to accept - grudingly - the bass, but would prefer to have £ for wasted time & costs, I'm not sure if that's something which can be claimed for alone at a small claims but they only way to find out is to investigate. Personally I'd try a letter to the owner of the store with a "is this how you like your shop to be portrayed?" Another alternative, which the law does cater for is for the OP to warn the shop that since they are unable to rectify the fault they intend to have the work done by someone who can & then sue the shop for the value of those costs. I've used that as a threat in the past (along with "You realise it would appear in the local papers too? - bad publicity") but didn't have to carry it out as the shop conceded.
Not sure this would work, although I see your logic - they sound a bit hard-core. I would have bought from them until now, but I'll avoid them like the plague based on this report. Maybe thats where the OPs revenge should lie. Everyone who's read this (I would think) would at least think twice now.
4. its off to GS1000 next
5.
Just as an aside, the reason for complaint would be 'unsatisfactory quality' rather than 'unfit for purpose'. Unfit for purpose is when goods cannot be used for their intended purpose, e.g. if you'd been sold a guitar rather than a bass, but it doesn't refer to the quality of the goods.
As a law graduate, I respectfully disagree. Unfit for purpose has a broad meaning, and is taken in context of the item in question. If adjusters don't adjust, it's unfit. NB the seller must have a chance to rectify, and they should get this chance first
As has been already said, you'll probably find yourself on a sticky wicket trying to pursue this now and a diplomatic approach to DV247 is probably your best bet.
Yes, totally agree, negotiation and dialogue is always best
6.
The laws on returning goods are a l. Your local Trading Standards & CAB can advise on that. But do check with Trading Standards office for chapter & verse - they should also be able to tell you if the shop has a history of complaints which will help you. FWIW, from what you say & the tech - it sounds like the neck is twisted?
No, the law is very clear. It should be of suitable quality and fit for purpose. If if isn't, I'd it has adjusters that don't work, or stuff is wonky, reject it immediately, and do it in writing quoting section 14 of the sale of goods act. Invite them to collect it, but take photos of it before they do. By all means get another store to give an expert opinion, but do not ever let them change it in any way. The cost of the item is completely irrelevant - if it's not good enough, reject it
7. My little one has started to go to nursery so my partner gets more done during the day so I have to do less. I just had my first evening practice in three years
8.
Is the software this application? The system requirements don't say anything about requiring a MIDI interface - just a normal sound card. If this isn't the application can you provide a link to it showing the system requirements?
That's the one BUT 1) it constantly nags about the lack of a midi input 2) old 16 bit sound cards used to have a midi in 3) avanquest themselves told me it needs mid 4) the packaging doesn't clearly say that , I agree 5) if you check the review on amazon you'll see I added this information to assist unwary purchasers 6) id still need a conversion unit
9. No, it doesnt recommend a unit - it just expects midi input - I assume it wants a MIDI sound card.
10. Bass to <box> to pc (USB) Software is "interactiv bass course" which needs midi input to rate user's note choice, timing, dynamics for tuition and feedback purposes
11.
Sonuus also do the I2m 'instrument to midi' USB interface. It even works with the iPad. Mono in, MIDI oit via USB and also acts as a high quality audio recording interface and is physically very small!
I'll take a more detailed look at that one - anyone rate the behringer midi converter ?
12.
If it's just for transcription then I use a pair of these: Again, the tracking isn't 100% accurate, but I find the more I use them the better they are.
Thanks - I did say tho I wanted it to work with a teaching package
13. Thanks - its what I asked for but It's not what I wanted I should have added that I want a USB out that can feed midi from mono input - don't want to buy a midi card Thabks
14. Turns instrument input into genuine midi ? I have a pc teach yourself course which reads midi Looking for cheap but workable
15. I will now consider shipping this at cost - would prefer to take neck off and ship in square box
16. Sorry - I'm in Nottingham/mansfield near j27 of M1
17. to answer questions: If I have to courier, note it weighs 4.4kg . I would prefer to remove the neck and pack the separate Parts in a big box rather than just a cardboard bass box.
18. Hi all Would like to sell this Ibanez SRX595 - its a 24 fret 5 string with a stunning flamed maple cap front and back. Volume, blend, treble cut/boot, bass cut/boost. No buckle rash as you can see. I just donbt have time to learn 5 string and use it properly so my jazz and pbass are getting my time. Would trade reluctantly, prefer to sell if at all possible I think this is probably worth £200 with postage at cost on top, but if you want to make a sensible offer (or less preferably ) have a bass to trade I'm always open and listening, in which case PM me? Prefer collection/meet/delivery within sensible radius for fuel for obvious reasons I live near j27 of M1 - Nottingham/mansfield pics: thanks for reading.
19. cards in music shops work, I would imagine. Thats how i found a teacher You could also get some cards printed (if you gig) because people might ask you after your set about taking up bass

21. Seems what I have is an indonesian made 2006 with the white faded to something like Olympic white, the pickups are marked "Duncan designed". The rw board came up well after a clean and lemon oil. Body has a couple of minor dings that have been carefully painted over. Pots are a bit crackly but I can sort that. Never thought I'd like p basses but this is really quite nice. No sharp fret ends.
22. very pretty but sadly I dont have the space
23. ok - a mixed bag of responses there. Quality seems to be an issue.
