1. If my three year old can play one without difficulty (other than the stretches) then most people can adapt quickly. It took me literally five minutes to stop looking at the board. I regret letting it go.
2. The Arctic Monkeys are not real monkeys.
3.
you know,Id swear that 'not' ^^ wasn't there earlier
No, i havent edited the post at all. A date and time would be shown if I had done so. Look at the post above mine for an example "Edited by yorks5stringer, Yesterday, 01:32 PM." Plant being the play on words with vegetarianism, why is Morrissey a raving carnivore?
4.
To my old eyes that Stentor looks pretty good, what do you all think? http://images.guitarbitz.com/images/products/1308066781-32648000.jpg
It's not very red in that pic....looks almost like brown tort
5. But not a jazz mag...
6. Robert Plant is, rather surprisingly, not a vegetarian.
7. consider a short scale, but first get medical advice.I got this stiffness when I had carpal tunnel syndrome and simple injection cured it.
8.
Thanks for the info, I hadn't thought about truss rods! the neck I have on order has heal adjustment and the body doesn't have an access slot
Just cut one in and sand it smooth No biggie
9.
Another question for P Bass experts: What is the difference between scratchplates on US, Mex and Squier's etc? is it just the position of the screw holes? I have no idea what make or model the body I've got is.
My belief is that US ones tend to have a recess cut in the plate at the heel for adjustment whereas jap and mim ones dont. The screw holes do tend to vary slightly
10.
To me they seem to lose some mids, and increase clarity on top and bottom end. My 78 sounds a bit like this, wonder if these pickups are intended to sound more 70s (as another Basschatter mentioned that 70s Precisions seem to be more scooped than other models).
Dave did recommend the thumper to me as I was after a 70s p bass sound so you're probably right
11. He did - we had an informative discussion about the two kinds of red tort available from WD, the more expensive stuff was more realistic but he could not justify buying a big sheet unless two people wanted plates at same time.
12. Can certainly hear the increased clarity
13. Lust ... That's a very nice relic
14. Ah. It's lucky that we don't tease people round here...
15. Pity about the black top coat
16. From what I've seen, almost no one seems to get red tort correct at a reasonable price
17.
Is it just the case that it is Roger Daltrey that you would object to, or would you draw the line at any famous singer? Not a big fan of Tom Jones, but i reckon Delilah, or some such singalong song, would be superb, if he was to happen to take the stage for a one off.
In the band, probably happy for the exposure for reasons others give My wedding ? Probably not as I just can't stand roger daltrey
18.
The question wasn't "if it was your wedding", Mr. Grumpy Pants It was "Would you be happy if he took the stage when you were playing." i.e. you are playing with the band when the situation arises. You are not getting married in this hypothetical situation.
Indeed, but a now deleted post (grangur?) opined about "what the happy couple thought of this". I happened to know and posted to this effect. I then postulated about how I would feel about this event should it occur to me. All relevant and on-topic given context at the time
19.
I have a lovely Jap P bass, but the string spacing is a little wide for me - I've not accurately measured it but IIRC most Fender 4 strings are about 22mm at the bridge, and most of my other basses are about 19, or even 18 on the 5 strings. I'm happy with the existing BBOT bridge as long as I can use replacement saddles to narrow the spacing a bit - but there are choices. Current USA Fenders come with 3 or 4 quite large grooves cut in the saddles to allow adjustment. But vintage Fenders actually seem to have threaded saddles where the whole thing is grooved, but not as deep. Does either of these have an advantage over the other? And just as importantly - where's the cheapest place to get them? ta
The fully threaded saddles are quite useful- came on my bass doc bass
20. For that money it should be awesomely perfect in every way
21. Depends how much you drink ...
22. It was my understanding from the news that the happy couple are actually fans ? I'd tell him to get stuffed if it was my wedding ...
23. My advice is to learn all the A locations one day, then next day remind yourself about those and move on to B and so on. Then you can go back and fill in the flat notes after. Comes togethervquickly. Dont try and do too much on one day as you just wont take it in. We try and be nice to beginners here, everyone has to start somewhere sometime,
24.
I can see why some people don't bother learning either. One of my tutors encouraged us to play a scale on one string only, any scale, it needn't start on the root either. So you could for instance play an E major scale on the A string starting with the open A, and go all the way along that one string, just playing E major.
Isn't that actually a mode ? Lydian in this case I think ? I agree though learn the scale, not the box, learn the board and see the scale all over
25.
I have regularly seen the fifth string being used only as a thumb rest.
That works though - use it only when you can usefully exploit the advantage is the best way to adapt
