1.
It's actually Grandmaster Melle Mel I apologise profusely for my unforgiveable musical faux pas
.....and the bass line is a sample from the song Cavern by Liquid Liquid.
 2. Had to have a chuckle at White Lines by Grandmaster Flash on the list. http://youtu.be/yGncWGLHdQw
 3.
Radio 6 has been playing them, I liked the song Tiswas, I can see the JCC connection in their stuff
I can see the JJC connection but he was doing this sort of stuff over 35 years ago and was brilliant at it. Can't see the need for another but then again i never got the whole Oasis thing either. For anyone who didn't get to see or hear JCC at his pomp then i suppose it could be exciting stuff. Just one of the problems of old age. Been there, heard that.
 4.
Saw an article about this lot in The Guardian. They remind me of John Cooper Clarke when he was at his best (Beasley Street, Evidently Chickentown, etc), and I do love a bit of gratuitous swearing :-)
They remind me a lot more of when JCC wasn't at his best.
 5.
Good point. But if everyone chose not to use to sell & only to buy, then you wouldn't be able to use it.
Sellers use it because it enables a lot of people to buy their goods who couldn't do do otherwise. Like it or not it's a convenient way to pay for items. It has its downside fees being one and yes it does side with the buyer. I've come off second best once or twice as a seller but as a buyer the protection it has given me has more than paid for that.
 6.
In most cases it seems only to favour the buyer.
As i said there are obvious times to use it.
 7.
I discovered that Kuhn trio earlier this year. Absolutely fantastic.
Here he is from 1960 with Scotty. http://youtu.be/PNqSL3xGW70
 8.
These guys all look so young! For some reason, I though Israel Crosby was white. Maybe I was getting mixed up with Chuck Israels (this video of him with Bill Evans opens with a lovely shot of a fag toting John Le Mesurier in the front seat of the audience!!)
I think Jamal was 29 when this was recorded. A wonderful and nowadays underrated pianist. Bilbo, This clip is a gem. I love Steve Kuhn's playing and you can't go wrong with the great JF Jenny-Clarke on bass. The second part with Gary Burton is worth watching especially for the brilliant Steve Swallow. Great stuff!!! http://youtu.be/KX-ZdONc3Oc
 9.
I avoid paypal at all costs for obvious reasons.....
....and there are obvious reasons at times to use it.
 10.
In fairness, a lot of big names have studied with her...Jaco among them.
I'd still really be interested to know when Jaco studied with her.
 11.
In fairness, a lot of big names have studied with her...Jaco among them.
When did Jaco study with her?
 12. It still amazes me that this thread has had so little interest. One of the greatest session players and the most important Danelectro 6-String bass player ever and a drummer on another posts gets three times the posts and five times the views. I wonder if there are more posts about bass players than drummers on drummers forums?
 13.
That's a very funny analogy - to make it a little more inclusive surely someone playing Come Together thinking they're Paul McCartney or All Roght Now thinking they're Andy Fraser fall into the same category - or indeed anything a bit flash on any instrument in a cover band!
Absolutely, i won't argue with that.
 14.
and there are other things -- some great Larry Graham
I often think that someone slapping down the pub thinking he's Larry Graham is similar to the bloke who plays football on Sunday mornings and thinks he's Ronaldo. Two are legends in their own lifetime while the other two are legends in their own bath-time.
 15. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/248860-rick-the-bass-player-rosas-rip/page__p__2599353__hl__rosas__fromsearch__1#entry2599353
 16.
I have sometimes paid extra, to cover the fee and ensure the seller gets the full amount, and that way be protected.
Yes that's a very good point and worth knowing. I bought a bass from the U.S. and did just that and although it arrive fine it was worth paying the extra for peace of mind.
 17. While on the subject of Paypal it's worth remembering the protection you have as a buyer. I payed for something as a 'gift' (not connected with ebay) and never received the goods. I trusted the person so sent the money as a gift therefore i have no chance of having that payment refunded. Totally my fault but it has taught me a valuable lesson in that i will never pay for goods that way again. Even if it's here on Basschat and the seller insists on a 'gift' payment. In that case it will be a definite 'no sale'. Once bitten as they say.
 18.
Well that's that mystery solved - we should have known. If you're a slapper you get attention off guys (the next installment is on, about Mark King)
No i think it's much simpler than that. I didn't mention Dave Grohl, Geddy Lee, Pink Floyd or Led Zeppelin in the title. If i did then this thread would have run and run.
 19. Well unless this thread gets 40+ posts and over 400 views then it looks like The Apprentice is more popular on here that a legend of the bass guitar. That's a bit strange on a bass forum isn't it?
 20. I had to check for a moment whether The Apprentice was on at the same time and could be the reason that no one else on here seems to have listened to it.
 21. I've never heard of Amy MacDonald, Andy Burrows, Brody Dalle, Eddie Vedder, James Dean Bradfield, Rizzle Licks, Ricky Wilson, Shane Meadows & Tom Odell and wish i'd never heard of Liam Gallagher, Chris Evans & Johnny Vegas but if Sheila Ferguson does a duet with Charlie Boy from Buck House them i'm first in the queue for a ticket.
 22.
£73 - £85 a ticket?!
It's fer charidy mate!!!
 23.
Actually if anyone knows promoters of an experimental leaning throughout the UK I'd be grateful for a heads up on those too. Cheers Thomas
I really hope that you find a promoter that will put on your music. Have you tried any promoters through links like those who advertise in magazine like The Wire. That is still the go to in the UK for experimental music as far as the print media is concerned. This forum is very MOR as far as music is concerned so maybe you need to look elsewhere. Good luck and i hope you find someone as it's what keeps music alive.
 24.
It was excellent! I taped it (yup! on a real cassette deck!) for a mate & will be burning it to CD for him. It was an amazing hour of ticking off hit after hit that he was on.
Yes it was joy to listen to. What surprise me on here sometimes is that here is a guy that is so interesting and important as far as Basses go but there is little interest. On the other hand there are 40+ posts in a thread about zombies. BC can be a very strange place at times.
 25. This programme is available on BBC iPlayer. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0495mw5 Great programme and essential listening about one the greatest session players ever who made the Danelectro 6-String Bass his own. Lots of interest for all Bass players.
