1. I wonder if they really think the words are 'God only knows what i'd be without choo'......... http://youtu.be/oHu8qXgm1ss
 2.
Nobody expects them to be daily runarounds... just as you wouldn't expect those present top marquess to do the mileage today. Of all those top sports cars, mostly with Italian names..or at least of that ilk, the only one that will drive all day every day, is a 911..which happens to be German.
The trouble is that even those 1960s British cars that were built as 'runarounds' often didn't 'runaround' when you wanted them to and how i miss those winter mornings and the chorus of starter motors straining to start (and often not starting) those lovely 60s motors.
 3.
But who would turn their noses up at a 1960's Aston..??
I would. When it comes to British cars of the 60s my rose coloured glasses are firmly put away in a drawer.
 4.
God above, that was just awful. Awful.
This is a much better version........... http://youtu.be/O-VgALpc96o
 5.
+1... I could lay my hands on a vuvuzela and we could duet...
....and at the end of the gig we could smash our instruments on stage and make a vuvuzoo and a kazela from the remains.
 6. I'd like to have a crack at God Only Knows on my kazoo because however bad it sounded i'd always rest easy that it couldn't possibly be worse than what the BBC have just done to it.
 7. Before anyone mentions it, yes i know it's for Children In Need but it's still really awful and an assault on my ears.
 8. Just one question. Why? Warning: Those with a love for the 1960s and good music please turn off now. http://youtu.be/XqLTe8h0-jo
 9. Now this is what you call a Kazoo Band........ http://youtu.be/IAlq9mUHmxw By the way this is from a fantastic 1930s documentary film 'Spare Time' by the brilliant documentary film maker Humphrey Jennings.
 10.
I found they are like the panda bears in chinese restaurants...I mean fake plasic bears in fake plastic trees... I usually go to a very good chinese restaurant, but for eating and not for the pandas. Lol
I must be going in the wrong restaurants because all they have in my local Chinese one is a few silk pictures hanging on the wall. I somehow feel cheated now.
 11.
Exactly. Look what happened to the British motor industry - we were the ones producing the crap while the Japanese were busy producing some of the best vehicles and bikes in the world.
That's true but that's because the Japanese learnt very quickly. In the 1950s every Japanese motorcycle manufacturer had bikes in their range that were simply copies of motorcycles by BSA, Norton, Triumph, Matchless, AJS etc, were made from inferior materials and often unreliable but within a decade they had designed their own models and manufacturing process and their bikes were the most reliable in the world. In the early 60s many British motorcycle dealers had signs saying 'we do NOT work on Japanese motorcycles' hanging in their windows. Within a couple of years these all disappeared.
 12.
Remember that iPhones and Macs are made in China too...
....and most of the aluminium frames for bicycles including the top end racing ones.
 13. Cue a good old Chic bassline............. http://youtu.be/Qo0LYX6COv0
 14. I wouldn't recommend using one of those whilst in your pocket when travelling on the London Underground in rush hour.
 15.
Why is it that highly technical bassists largely seem to be loved on Basschat, but highly technical guitarists seem to be denigrated?
I can't say that i've noticed that myself.
 16.
Because it's a bassists forum I guess.
17.
There are a number of youtube videos of the Ozark resonator bass. I presume that the Harley Benton would be similar. The videos tell us what the instrument sounds like, but of course doesn't give us an idea of absolute volume.
The HB is identical to the Ozark so i would think it would sound the same. When i bought my Ozark when they first came out i expected a loud sound when unplugged but instead they are surprisingly quiet. I put flats on mine and it's a really nice sound. Great for home use but you would have to use amplification elsewhere and as i said before they are very heavy. On the plus point the HB is a lot cheaper than the Ozark which was about £400. They are fun though and the person i sold mine to really loved it.
 18. It's worth remembering what a big part producers Robert Margouleff and British bass player Malcolm Cecil and their TONTO played in those 1970s LPs that were a massive change of direction for Stevie. Stevie undoubtably supplied the genius but Moog and TONTO played a big part in that sound.
 19. The body is identical to the Ozark Resonator 3516 bass (The headstock is slightly different). I had an Ozark one and despite what a lot of people think they are no louder than most other acoustic bass guitars (i've heard wooden ones that were a lot louder). In fact as far as the Ozark goes they are disappointingly quiet. Oh and i nearly forgot. They are heavy. Very heavy.
 20.
Both incredible musicians. Does Stevie play bass himself?
I've never heard that he plays bass guitar but i saw him at Hammersmith Odeon in 1972 (a tour promoting the Music Of My Mind LP) and he played the drums which was impressive. It was the gig that Tony Blackburn walked out of and caused a stir the next day when the newspapers were full of it. It's hard to believe that any radio DJ would have that much influence but that's how it was back then.
 21. My Fender Jazz Bass is over 40 years old and hasn't got anywhere near that amount of wear on it. I think i'll have to do a relic job on it in case anyone thinks it isn't genuine.
 22.
People like different things. For example, I would take an old MGBGT or TR6 every time over any modern sports car you put under my nose. A lot of people (most?) would probably think I'm mad, but it’s no contest. I don’t know why, I didn’t ask to be that way, it’s just how it is.
Well with the materials used and the build quality of those two cars at least they'd probably come already relic'd.
 23.
It's a well known fact that anything that is not Evan Parker, AMM, J.S. Bach or Krzysztof Penderecki is insipid dross, so why the harsh condemnation of exactly this insipid dross? The OP likes it. Several others, admittedly including me, like it. Some people enjoy this music, and some don't. Sounds normal to me. Yet, Dirty Loops almost seems to be kinda unique in gathering all the antis for shared condemnation with harsh wording. Also, this is the third Dirty Loops bashing thread in just a few month, and this time, the OP even specifically asked for opinions about the bass player.
I always thought that forums were about opinions. Perhaps in future if we think something is awful it's best if we all say we like to please those who do. Perhaps there should be a sticky saying that so in future we all know.
 24. I think i'd rather be locked in a room listening to a continuous loop of Richard Clayderman.
 25.
How come Betafunk?
The bass playing is fine. I just don't like the vocals and it's all a bit too slick for me.
