1. Probably remains the biggest bargain on here!
2. I had a five and it was beautiful - if it had been a 4,I'd still have it. Tremendous playability and tone
3. I've owned a custom Shuker and can attest to the quality - as good as anything F-type out there (and certainly as good as the Sadowskys, Fender CS, and Allevas I've had). An absolute bargain in my opinion!
4. Absolutely lovely - fantastic figuring and the burst is exquisite!
5. Lovely! Is this a SIMS guard - Martin has some beautiful celluloid nitrate tort just now?
6. Great ads bgmttt - good to see very clear descriptions and very detailed and plentiful images. I can't really see but this looks like it could be an A width nut - 1.5"? Lovely!
7. I'm not really a Fender player but I really love this - what a cool, iconic bass and I'd hope it plays and sounds as good as it looks. If this was much closer, I'd be tempted - good luck, understated beauty!
8. Sounds absolutely glorious in the clips and i've been watching and plotting for ages. I have to keep reminding myself that I don't really get on with valve pres. it does look gorgeous though...
9. I bought a tort 10 hole from Sims two weeks ago - beautiful (see thread here on tort plates for image). About £90 but custom and gorgeous celluloid nitrate. I have the original Fender left if of interest (though should probably keep it)
10. Great to see these popping out! An SI and SII within two minutes - both very beautiful. The more I see of the earlier Series basses, the more attractive they become.
11. I'd have to say that Jazzyvee beat me to it. I was in my mid-late 40s before I was able to find an Alembic. I'd looked and lusted for years but eventually I had enough cash (some hard saving and a lot of bass selling) and for me it was well worth the wait. A bit addictive though! I owned a gorgeous chestnut topped Fodera MG5 and that was sacrificed for a second short-scale Alembic - though I never looked back. We are blessed to have some incredible bass builders around today, each brilliant and special in their own way. For me though, Alembic remain the pinnacle (though I'm sure others would disagree - all part of the fun)
12.
Come on fellas - there's no need for that - we're all friends here - how can you do this to us just before Xmas?? That's just cruel...I'm so jealous..
I'm not sure this will help...but to continue the theme
13. I've always been a massive fan of Chris' work - unfortunately, too many strings for me
14. Ah, of course, I didn't check - 20th it is, but another chance to bump a gorgeous instrument! Also an opportunity for another gratuitous image of more walnut and Anni electronics
15. Absolutely beautiful - gorgeous walnut (?) - a 25th Anniversary? The electronics are wonderful
16. Biggest bargain on BC this year? I haven't spec'd this out but I'd say around £9k even at US dealer prices (then there's the duty), and the bass looks immaculate. Two slices of cocobolo and a small brass plate and this would be a deluxe with high-end custom options. For anybody wavering, the tone out of these is totally unlike anything else - in a very positive sense
17. I have one of these - very beautiful cases and a big step-up from the standard version. Bit of a steal in my opinion
18. Absolutely gorgeous - Alembic appears to source some of the world's most beautiful timber (then work it to perfection and charge for its art). I was hoping to find this a Balanced K (though slightly relieved when it wasn't). I had a Series I standard so know that this body shape doesn't work for me. I can imagine the tone from this - unlike anything else in the world of bass. If you want that tone, you have to pay the entry price (but this MK is a very cheap way-in IMO).
19. Love an early start to the weekend! Would love to have this if I could justify another - peerless rackmount valve pre and at an excellent price IMO! An excellent seller too - I need to stop looking - bump
20. A thing of beauty and wonder! Sold mine to buy a Millennia when I realised (following an extended and expensive search) that I prefer SS. If valve pres are your thing, this and the Noble are the two to consider IMO.
21. Looking forward to the weight on this - my '75 was around 11lbs - it was err...solid
22. oops, from looking more closely at the logo type, this is probably more likely to be late '80s or early '90s
23. Very nice - what's the serial number (this looks to be from 1985/6) and what happened to the black Status logo on the retainer cover? Is this a blue tint in the graphite finish? It might be useful to include details of cosmetic condition too. I don't remember seeing many of these with markers in the front of the board - original? Finally, where is the bass located? Gook luck - an unusual and impressive bass!
24. The celluloid nitrate tort guard has arrived from SIMS - very fast turnaround and an excellent job of producing a guard with perfect fit. This was a custom job and I was required to provide the original plate as a template - the original was returned with the new guard. The quality is excellent - there's a fairly clear difference when comparing modern plastic and celluloid side-by-side. Much greater depth and complexity in the colour of the latter - an almost 3D effect. The guard has a 30 degree bevel and looks much more authentic on the CS '59. It wasn't cheap at over £90 but was worth the effort and looks sublime. The original was OK but the CN is a massive improvement. Ironically, now the bass has a new plate, I may sell. I bought the CS for a group of gigs that needed an older style Fender. The gigs are done and the bass is much less useful to me (though lovely to have around, especially in its current livery)
