Vocoder addict Cher was originally named Chair but was advised to change her name by Tom Barker- Knoll.
Cher attributes her looks to a strict diet, her food advisor is Tom Parker Bowles. She does however avoid the pork scratchings.
4 string progger for anyone...? https://m.thomann.de...arch=1450348730
There is never a white one! -
... I also like the bit he nicked from Prokofiev's Lieutenant Kijé Suite.
I wonder if this was credited? On ELP's first album, Emerson nicked a couple of uncredited pieces, Bartok's 'Allegro Barbaro' ("The Barbarian") and Janacek's 'Sinfonietta' ("Knife-Edge"). Yesterday evening on Radio 3 InTune, a piece was played by I forget who, but it contained the main theme to The Nice, Diary of an Empty Day. I think the ELP pieces finally got credit on the CD release. My best Christmas song is the one I don't hear in shops, worst is virtually any I do hear. Although Greg Lake is preferred to what Tesco's played on Monday.
Has anyone tried storing a portrait of their basses in the attic to stop them from ageing?
I stored a portrait of a Trace Elliot in my attic. It was OK.
I would love to have a bass with double fret dots on the 13th fret! I think the higher dots on my fretless are slightly off, but I'm not sure if this made it a deko.
Could this really be the reason for 'deko' status?
I doubt it. There was a Deko a while back which had 2 inlay dots on fret 13. -
i've been lucky and all my basses have responded immediately to small truss rod adjustments - except an Epiphone, which moves overnight after adjustment. I've heard it advovocated that after a small adjustment you grip the body (between your knees, I think) and push the neck in the desired direction. I think the general idea is the truss rod may not have enough force to move the neck, but once moved, it holds it there. Always a good idea to check next day before making a second adjustment (the Epi told me that!). Cork sanding blocks may make good block for the OP's method. I can see the merit in this method as you can apply a small controlled force from the clamp

You can't get the wood you know.

Blue, (and anyone else interested) 18th January 2014 issue of Billboard. (how the mop tops went viral, 50 years ago, in 6 weeks - with no internet!) http://issuu.com/can...8_january_2014.

I'd never heard Jaco until about a year ago. It's not for me (dumb and uninformed ) but found this interesting: Noodling deconstructed.

You can have fun with Google Ngram viewer which shows when things came out of the wood work (in books). You can set the date range and corpus and enter multiple names (case sensitive, get the spelling right). I tried a few bassists I could think of. McCartney does not work - too famous and there must be another famous John Paul Jones.- may apply to other names if not unique (ish) Here is my bassists list: http://bit.ly/1QbeSYu EDIT - only seems to accept 12 inputs at a time.

Who do you prefer vocally - The Who or The Beatles?
He says he was. I haven't been on the Macca thread yet. I guess I'll give it a miss!
But he did not know his (Jameson's ) name at the time. I think Carol Kaye did the bass on Pet Sounds, which he also mentions as an influence.
My book required a series of interviews with Sir Paul, some conducted as long ago as 1967.... .
1967? so you never met the original PM then? Just as well, it may have added confusion.
Is that based on last year's Harvest? It may come from people with Charisma from across the Atlantic but it's not a Universal view.... hang on, sorry about that ringing from the other room, it's my Parlour Phone.
no idea at all, it came over the Horizon, right out of the Blue.

Bolt on neck tightness moves dead spot
pfretrock replied to franzbassist's topic in Repairs and Technical
I seem to remember reading about a Fender research project that aimed to remove the dead spot. The result was that a headless bass with a though neck was the best and second best was a 2L2R headstock with a through neck. Neither of these were acceptable for aesthetic reasons at Fender so we live with the dead spot. I gave real credence to Ned Steinberger's work though.
Alway assumed Fender's bolt on neck and low rake angle on the headstock, requiring the string tree, was to get more necks out of a piece of lumber. Same with split P pup - a cheap humbuck. P was built down to a price, rather than any aesthetics. Was there a post recently about loosening and re-tightening the bolts with the strings under tension to cure some dead spots? -
Unusual. I'm wondering if your instrument might be a return. That someone has fiddled with before returning. There's no sign of other instruments having the foil. Though. perhaps other owners of HB Prog. basses can comment.
Prog 4: The four bridge parts are electrically isolated. The foil is there to earth the four individual bridges. .A ground wire connects the foil to the bass ground under the G bridge. -
But I've notice it has a thin strip of foil along the individual bridge pieces lol looks stupid this is I assume for earthing. I'm thinking of removing it. What will happen? Buzzing maybe I can always put it back. Hopefully won't be an issue. Honestly tin foil at the bridge mind you fender did have the copper strip lol.
The bridge is four individual parts, which gets earthed by the foil strip. The bridge is stupidly difficult to adjust the intonation, so I replaced mine with a cheap Gotoh copy. You might get away without an earth, the pups are humbuckers, so presumably that would help? Anyone want some spare prog 4 bridge parts? (free!)
