It's a good question! To look at them, you can tell no corners whatsoever have been cut in the fit and finish. They're incredibly tidy, as I'm sure everyone who saw them at the bash will attest. The standard 112 is an absolute bargain, but the driver is ceramic so it's bound to be cheaper than the neo cabs in the range. That said, the neo stuff is still extremely reasonable when you compare it to what else is out there. I've got the Neo 112 here (the black and white one) if you want to have a lend?
Cheers WoT!!! Ill see what I can do and when it'll be best.

I would have liked to pop down yesterday but due to preparation for work etc I was not able to make it. These TKS cabs look absolutely fantastic. How do they make them without breaking the bank?!

Gorgeous new little Amp from Ashdown - CTM-15

The LB was a much nicer design, from an aesthetical point of view. -
If you had to make do with one bass - which would it be?

Stingray. -
I've grown tired of trying to dislike it. It's alright...I don't see any harm. I actually think Gary Barlow is an excellent musician and a funny guy, in his own way. Just don't take it too seriously. Some of it is comedy gold!

If you really want a Fender, I'd go for a new American Standard. £1100 or less if you haggle new. Solid basses, good hardware (the new bridges are fabulous) and they will do everything an old Fender will do, without the hassle of taking the neck off for truss adjustments or worrying about gigging a £3K vintage. However, if you like you Stingray, and dig the ergonomics, (and this is coming from a Fender and Musicman fan) I would try out a few Musicman basses that have the neck pup. E.g. Stingray HH/HS, Sterling HH/HS, Bongo HH/HS or the Big Al SSS (nails a P bass tone and a LOT more). Not only will the Musicman give you a Fender flavour with the extra pups, you still get the Musicman tone/etc, ergonomics, and ease of setup.

No wonder I picked up a brand new stock EBMM Bongo for such a low price from DV247 then! They have said my warranty still runs as it did before.
They're great. I ordered a vintage style Fender jazz bass case from them yesterday, as well as a load of other bits and pieces. Ive also used them in the past and have always had fantastic service from them. The routine is: You place your order. You instantly get an email confirmation that it's been received. When the order has been processed, they send you another email confirming it's on its way. This email will also contain a tracking link. You can then follow your orders progress as it makes its way to you. My experience has been that delivery from Thomann in Germany to Scotland (where I live) takes 3 working days.
Sounds good, and quicker than some UK retailers!

You should get an update from when it leaves BF, surely?!

The three micro amps I own stay pretty damn cool. In particular, the Genz Streamliner is very quiet despite the fans....VERY quiet. Sometimes I leave them on for quite a long time, and no issues so far.

I'm very impressed with Promenade Music. Speak to Gary...nice chap!

The fast chops do come with practice. To them guys its second nature as they came about in the 90s with all the new American melodic punk bands that play everything incredibly fast...eg NOFX, Bad Religion. I couldn't do it that fast with fingers, but with a plec it's fast...probably the first thing I wanted to do on a bass was to play very very fast and melodic. It's just a different technique...kinda have to loosen your wrist, use a low action, normal strings, fairly medium to thin plectrum.

Who gone through simple to complex then back to simple bass?
Musicman20 replied to badboy1984's topic in Bass Guitars
Nope. A P is great but I get bored of the same old tone. A Stingray never gets boring. Now I use Bongos/Rays/Sterling/Big Al/P/J....the more interesting complex basses get used more. At the moment, and I realise Ps have always been popular, but Fender are having a resurgence with all the indie bands. Fashion will change... -
Just realised I starred listening to Green Day at 12/13 and its almost been 20 years. My god time has flown. I like the fact it's quite subtle that its a signature. I can see me trying out the white/maple.

White/maple - niceeeee!

I need to get this right! Pre amp pedal into an amp...
Musicman20 replied to Musicman20's topic in Amps and Cabs
Cheers ill try tomorrow -
Hi all I want to try my Tonehammer pedal through the Shuttlemax 9.2 or Streamliner 900 (GB). How do I go about it properly? Do I need to power the pedal itself then plug it into the effects out power amp in or am I wrong?
The original designs did have their flaws, but Fender have improved upon many of them by now anyway. You can't really say that one instrument is "objectively" better than another. Music is a very subjective thing. That's why some people lug around great big heavy fridges and valve amps despite their being louder, smaller, lighter and more efficient rigs available for less money. On paper they win hands down; in practice? It depends on what the individual wants to hear when he plays. Fender get a lot of schtick, usually by people comparing them to instruments twice their price. There aren't many companies who offer an American made instrument with top quality hardware and electronics in a top-quality hardcase for the money that Fender do (indeed many of these companies Fender are often compared to charge what Fender do for an American instrument in a hard case for an Asian one chucked in a rubbish gig bag). My go-to bass is a Warwick Corvette. Very modern; 24 frets, extremely open-sounding pick-ups, active EQ, fancy woods etc. But for playing anything a bit more classic, it just can't compare to my Fender. You can't really improve on that sound for playing that kind of music because that's the sound that was on that music; it's that simple. Around the Fender price point I really don't think there's any much out there that can do that as well as a Fender can. And sometimes there are times where you just need something a bit more modern. I think spending a fortune to get a boutique builder to build you a hybrid modern take on a classic design wouldn't cut it for me. You'd probably end up with an instrument that can manage a good approximation of a modern sound or a classic sound, but nail neither. Personally I'd rather spend half the budget on a Fender, and half on something a bit more modern. But each to his own.
Pretty much my thoughts. The only issue is the whole 'Fender 5 string' issue, but I've yet to play the latest Jazz 5'ers, and they might be pretty good. I agree, especially on basses like Lakland. I've seen some recent examples and they have cut corners quite a lot. A new one had really rough unsanded/untreated wood on the headstock edges. The pickup routing was pretty bad. Then you don't even get a bag, never mind a case. A high end manufacturer charging £1500+ needs to supply a quality bespoke case. End of.
Do Bongos use different pups?
Yep! Neodymium magnets. I'm sure they are wound pretty hot as well. It definitely makes a difference. Very very CLEAR and almost hi-fi with the grunt of a Musicman. Extremely sensitive pickups...so the lightest touch makes a big sound!
-
Nope haha! But I'm glad others are. To be fair, I'm at work a lot, and I knew I would be in this career, so I don't mind. I'll find something decent eventually.
