- Sold - Hi all I have found a small container of the Ernie Ball Wonder Wipes in my spare room. This is the one for the instrument. I've got too many of these and they need using up! They have NOT been opened, brand new sealed pot, but the lid has a small crack on on the plastic (just being 100% honest). The pot is still sealed with a factory seal though, and I doubt the plastic crack will make any difference. These used to be about £9.00-£10.00. http://www.soundsliveshop.com/p/Ernie_Ball_Wonder_Wipes-Instrument_Polish_4264/EB-4264S I'm just having a clear out...£3.50 delivered ONO. Paypal gift or bank transfer Cheers

Hopefully I am now keeping mine! It was far too good a price to sell just because I don't have much space! Space schmace....great cab. I think it's incredibly light!

The DB cabinets are absolutely fantastic. I have not as yet tried the amps

The Gibson EB-2 and EB-13 sounded the best to me. That shocks me as I'm not a massive Gibson fan. The P sounded a little thin even though I like a good P bass. Not so keen on the Les Paul bass or the TBird. Cool comparison, I liked it.

Overall view of TKS 12/6 WOT/Michael was kind enough to drop off and pick up the 12/6 that TKS sent over. I had the cab for a fair amount of time, and I was able to test it in a few environments. If I hadn’t picked up a Genz NX2 212T in the sale I would have invested in a TKS. The build is superb, they look fantastic, the 12/6 sounds fantastic, and the weight is pretty damn good. The 12/6 goes very deep and throws out low end with no effort at all. I would personally want a tweeter but that is of course an option! The tone is very clean and crisp. Highly recommended
Blinkin' 'eck, we all seem happy to pass comment on the EB, but I can't recall many beyond myself owning one I'd definitely try and form your own opinion. I was going to remind you that I'm down the road if you want a try - indeed, Skej might still have one on one the wall of his shop still! I'll wait for someone to say you need a P-bass, now
I was in York at the weekend n all! -
And from a guy with 'Musicman' in his username
I've had that since before I owned one! Just a teenage dream of owning a Ray! I do not in any way try to badger the company for anything, and to be honest, they probably wouldn't have time anyway, as even Flea didn't get a Ray with his name on it.
Bassdirect probably have the best stock in the U.K, Gareth. - they probably have the only stock of new USA models in the UK , in fact - but even then, don't expect to be overwhelmed with choice. They have never had mass-appeal or major mainstream marketing in the U.K, but they are excellent basses nevertheless. G&L have always been a slightly periphoral brand, even in America, but they are really excellent quality basses designed for use in the real world. Very powerful sound. Have you seen the new Tom Hamilton signature model? It's Telecaster -shaped, made out of Sugar Pine to be extremely lightweight and comes in a selection of very bling finishes. Might appeal to you , Gareth.
Sounds good to me!
.....and the fanbois are just as irritating a group as the naysayers may be percieved to be,. Wayne dude is right.... the cabs get hyped a lot for something that is a niche product...and not generally known about
Agreed. I have no 'dog in the fight' so to speak, but I have to admit, there is a tendency for certain people to try to become almost 'associated' or 'friendly' with certain manufacturers. Almost like a very poor version of a sponsorship, but perhaps they are looking for future discounts? This does not even just extend to BF; it extends to many manufacturers and even stores (again, I think they want to show loyalty and become a 'golden' customer). Who knows. I am always cynical of posts like that. No one owes anyone a living on here so I couldn't really care where something is made and whether it is a british company.

The lady of the house, whilst normally doesn't care, has just said 'why have you got another 2x12 cab?' when I have the Aguilar DB212. She has a point. I'm running out of space. Unless I can find another area of the spare room for it to sit in I might have to do what I really did not envisage (especially at this silly price) and move it on.

Ay, the DB212 STILL stays for me.

Like Dingus, I am still unhappy with a so called 'friend' from another band who, when I was about14/15, slightly dinted the finish on my fairly new MIJ P Bass. It didn't get any worse, and the paint is probably still in tact (It was sold on some time back). That bass was my pride and joy, and he did it because he was an older, jealous idiot. Probably also because I had a more attractive girlfriend. The chap is now an alcoholic with drug problems,,,, Anyway, Roon is a top guy, VERY trustworthy. If the cab had failed before hand, the bassist from the band who borrowed it would have probably blown the remaining driver. I am tight and I barely lend anything out now.

My usual tastes do not usually extend to anything Gibson related, and I don't personally bond with the ergonomics of R**s, but I suddenly really want something totally differerent to my usual Musicman/Fender cravings. I haven't played decent indie or rock for a while, due to being in the covers scene for a bit, and also playing more 5 string/fingerstyle stuff at home to learn new styles etc. I'm now considering getting a totally different style of bass. Why? Well, why not.... I've been looking at: R*c 4003 Gibson Thunderbird Gibson 2014 EB Bass (the new dual humbucker bass) G&L L2500 Anyone have any advice about these models? I am going to attempt to try as many as possible.
I think the post -2012 Fender Am St Jazz is a great bass too , and I wouldn't be in any rush to replace the pickups either. Those Fender Custom Shop Vintage 60's that come as standard in that bass now are slightly overwound and sound very fat and beefy, but still have all the delicate nuances of a single coil pickup. I think they are just as good as the Aguilar 4J-HC , or anything else on the market, for that matter. I really don't see any need to change them , or at least give them a bit of a chance before you do so !
Plus one. The American Standards since 2008, and probably more so since 2012, do not need any upgrades, because they won't essentially be upgrades. If I find a nice 2013 P or J with the new pups to go with my 2009/11 P and J, I'll be putting the money down.

Where in the UK has a decent stock of the USA models?!?
I've just succumbed to the Streamliner 900 from GAK at a great price (£485 delivered, with a gig bag thrown in gratis). I wanted something more powerful as my new band is a wee bit noisier than my other band. Reviews here seem good, and I would probably have spent similar money on something second hand with similar power, so I'm keen to get my hands on the Streamliner and really open it up. What a bargain!
GREAT amp and a fantastic price.
I paid my £100 May 29 and have paid in full since. No cab yet. To be fair I have altered my order a couple of times - original order was gen 2 Midget, which got changed to Super Midget because of gen 3 soon to be released. This I later changed to Super Compact and then BB2 as I became aware of the specs of the rest of the updated range. But I fear I've been bumped to the back of the queue each time :-( However, I did state from the outset that I was in no particular hurry. A mistake perhaps?
5 months?!?!

For some reason I really really like orange on most basses.
My 9.2 will take a bit of getting used to. I bought it for deep, clean low tones, but with the treble all the way down on both bass and amp, it's still a bit too bright! Still plenty of time to fiddle though...
The 9.2 is the usual Genz Shuttle tone, which is tight, bright and clear. It will get much fuller if you engage the variable low boost which lowers the HPF...drop the hi mids to taste as well.
People sometimes comment on EA's lack of volume, but they use a different kind of volume control to other manufacturers, the control acts all the way through its turn so it'll keep getting louder, most other manufacturers use controls that act for the first half turn or something, then nothing much happens after that.
The Genz volumes are also the type that gradually increases, which is why I like how precise the Shuttlemax is. Compare this to Markbass. Most of the volume is in the first half turn.

Lovely idea for a thread. Still missed.
Well I've owned two Sandberg Basic 4's and two Basic Ken Taylor 5's, and I really think they take some beating. The neck feel and overall playability is the main selling point for me, but they sound incredible too! I guess it depends whether you want an exact replication of "that stingray sound" that people get so defensive about, or whether you're just looking for the sound of a MM style humbucker in the sweet spot. For me, the Basics gave as close an approximation of a stingray sound as I would ever need, especially in a band mix, I think you'd have to be incredibly anal abut it to pick holes. The Glockenklang Preamp in the Basic is superb, plenty of adjustment but a very natural sound, and the controls interact very intuitively. The passive mode can be very useful too, and with the preamp set flat there is zero volume difference between active and passive. I think the Sandbergs represent superb value for money too, you can have a Basic handbuilt to your spec for less than an off-the-shelf Stingray. I've tried quite a few Stingrays over the years, and although I really want to like them, there's just something that's not quite right for me. As they say, one man's coq au vin is another man's chicken in a basket! As others have said, the only real way to draw a conclusion is to try both and see which works best for you. Might be tricky finding a Basic though, unless there's a friendly BCer you can tap up......
The Glock preamp is nice but much more neutral. The Sandberg will never snarl and bite like a proper Musicman, or have a good headstock
i think its more to do with the fact that more companies use the jazz bass pickup config, as its more versatile. the only reason bass makers dont do the Musicman humbucker a lot is 1. the preamp 2. not alot of bass manufacturers want to sound like a Stingray and only a Stingray.
The Super Jazz is incredibly boring. I'm bored of £3000 passive P bass style boutique basses. Fashions will change again soon but the Super Jazz etc are still very much the in thing. It's much easier to get two alnico single coils with a passive tone circuit that it is to attempt to get the Ray humbucker and preamp right. That and the fact no one has got it right yet, or dared to see what would happen if they copied the lot. Fair play I say; protect it if it's your business.
