Quite true, Gareth - You've really got to play a bass before you spend two grand on it
I definitely realised that haha. Thats the peril of mail order. But, with most the modern Fenders and definitely the EB basses, Im fine to test to see if I like them and the quality, then order one to my spec. If it turns up with problems then I guess it just gets swapped for another. Still thinking about the RW Jazz....Im really hoping it ticks all the boxes. It sounded great...just hoping Im making the right choice.
 2.
NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
I just realised they have new tuners designed for some EB basses, so I'm going to look back into the Big Al then. Not only that, I need to test one before I take the plunge.
 3.
Trade agreed
Ohh! Intrigued I am....
 4. I must admit there are a lot of small manufacturers making cabs at the moment, but these PC cabs look incredibly well made....good luck with the sale
 5. Thats a damn good stage man, well done. The sound seems pretty decent actually, I can hear everything quite well. Im jealous as I havent gigged since Xmas and unfortunately it was a small club with rubbish sound.
 6.
This is how it sounded when it first resurfaced early last year...
Victor cracks me up....plus he is one amazing player. Sounds great.
 7. Id really like it but I cannot afford the Jazz and the Precision, and I need the RW Jazz first otherwise my collection is out of balance!
 8. TBH, Ive never heard good things about the Highway 1....I think its more the playability people complain about. Im not sure.
 9.
Told you they were good, didn't I?
It lived up to the expectations. I really like the old tuners....
 10.
It's a tough call... As others have said, the American Standard is a very well equipped bass package with the hardcase, posiflex graphite rods, high mass bridge & they do sound great - You played the one I had when you came here didn't you, Nathan? The Road Worn is a different kettle of pilchards altogether. The nitro finish really does let the sound ring out & there is something about them. You can get both at around the same price, actually. Most places will do one or the other for £799 if you haggle hard enough. I tend to think of it like this... The Am.Std is the modern version of the Jazz with all the best refinements. It plays and sounds grown up, mixing the classic J sound with some modern touches, whereas the Road Worn plays and sounds like Jazz basses did in the 60's. That original growly burp is there in abundance. Back off the tone control, play on the back pickup only & you've got Jaco sounds in spades. The scary thing about the Road Worn is that I have no idea how they made it sound so good. There's some voodoo going on there somewhere! I can only assume a lot of it has to do with the nitro finish. Oh, and btw... The pickup spacing on both is 60's.
Well, I have now tried the RW Fiesta Red Jazz. I am impressed....I really am. Not only did it attract attention when I started noodling in the shop, but I agree with the whole 'feel'. The setup wasnt amazing, but the action was low enough to enjoy it. I compared it to a Lakland Jo in the store, and they were close, with the JO being more 'modern', and the RW having that warmth that you rarely find. I much prefer 60s spacing, and these pickups solo'd sounded amazing. The JO neck Pup just didnt thump like the RW I must admit. I have an American Series Jazz, and now im considering a RW for the sheer fact it looks and feel amazing; I quickly realised yet again how much the Jazz works for me.
 11.
With shipping and import would cost someone in UK about £900, which is not exactly a bargain unfortunately (not ridiculous either, mind). I like it a lot but am in bass gear deficit right now
Agreed....if there was a way to get it for around £750-£800 max it would be excellent.
 12. If this was in the UK I would have bought it already...
 13.
My new rig. Orange AD200B plus Barefaced Vintage (2x15) ... with Sid skulking in the foreground. Phwoarr!
Wicked, especially the Orange. That cab looks massive...I bet it moves some air.
 14. Thats lovely....
 15.
I've heard good things about the Aguilar cabs. Weight is not so much the issue as bulk, I guess so the weight of the Aguilars is not off-putting. Thanks for the advice.
If weight isnt an issue...the Aguilar will blow most the other cabinets out the water. I spent ages looking at cabinets, and tried all the manufacturers mentioned here. The Aguilar cabs look so 'presentable' its unreal (especially the DB series) and they are very well made. Exceptional tone. I havent found anything I like better yet. Great resale value as well, which is a must for me, (not that I want to sell though). Edit - Quick shot of my DB212....lovely http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?act=attach...st&id=49475
 16. Well, I answered my own GAS today, sort of, by trying both side by side. The RW Jazz was incredibly light and very pure in its tone....vintage and creamy. More about warmth than aggression. Lovely. The relic is actually brilliant...and the colour really stands out. The Lakland sounded more modern, was a fair bit heavier, but had a nice finish. Good QC on this bass.... You will notice the Big Al order has gone. I have decided to stick with two incoming EBs to replace the two that I sold...and that one 5 string is definitely enough. The 5 string version of the JO Lakland was next to it. I tested, and yep, the 4 string just sounded tighter and clearer. More than likely 34 vs 35 scale. Both the JO4 and RW Jazz are a dream to play. Quick necks!
 17. Cool bass! Like it.
 18. I checked these out in guitarguitar today....nicely made combos. It seems TC amps are taking over quite large areas of guitar/bass shops!
 19.
For a while now I've been GASing for a 51 P bass (not helped by watching lots of old Specials videos with Horace playing an old Telecaster bass). I've never played one, and I'm not sure if the non-contoured body or chunky neck will suit me, but as ever, I have little enough common sense for this to stop me buying one... So, my question is this.... would I be better off getting a CIJ one (which seem to go for about £450 - £500), or buying a Squire Vintage Modified TB for around £230-ish, which leaves me a fair chunk of cash to pimp it up if required. Is there that much of a difference between the two? I admit to being a bit of a label snob, so normally the Squire logo would put me off (pathetic, I know) but I've only read great things about these latest VM models. Anyone played both? Or even better, got one for sale Cheers Tredders
GW will be able to comment as he has both!
 20. Hi everyone I know the RW Jazz bass gets a LOT of love on here and a fair bit on talkbass. Can anyone comment on how they compare to the Lakland JO basses? Im looking for 60s Jazz vibe, without the custom shop prices. The RW Jazz is considerably cheaper, and Nitro, and has USA pickups. The Lakland is now a 'Hanson' Lakland. Opinions? How good is the RW Jazz?
 21.
Musicman20?
Lol I wish!!!
 22. Im never in the right places! Dammit
 23.
In the pink. Of course. For interested parties - • 1 x Rickenbacker 4001, 1980. • 2 x Jim Dunlop medium plecs.
Mint!
 24. If you like Markbass, and the NY, try the NY122...only £710 ish for a light powerful 2x12 with a pretty decent amount of whump!
