2. I do hear these are great basses! Pics!
3. I went back to Newcastle for a weekend away from the norm, and I thought I check out: A) Golf clubs B ) Squiers Ive sold off all my cheap backups so I wanted to see if the Squier CV basses were worth the price tag. Unfortunately, all the stores I went in were either packed, or didnt have the CV 60s P. Soundslive did have the pine 50s P, and it does look great, but unfortunately the store had two guys from EBMM demonstrating the guitars, (not basses). I had no chance of trying one out with loads of guitarists shredding as fast as they could. Alas, yet again I have not tried one out. Fortunately, I learnt a lot about Golf Clubs, so Im quite happy about that.
4. The two 4 ohm outputs are confusing. It's to power two 8 ohm loads to total 4 ohm or one 4 ohm cab.
5. Plus one on the Orange cabs. One very good trick haha!
6. I reckon there are quite a few other smaller/lighter amps that will do the same tone (and a lot more) for almost the same price. Can you return it?

Sadowsky

Agreed!
8.
putting an attenuator is just more stuff to have really... was wanting to simplify things, what is the xlr out on the TC stuff like?
The TC DI out is the bomb. Very high quality. Ive used the amp straight into a PA desk for a rehearsal and it made a massive difference.
9.
you have a RH750 according to your sig. why not just programme a setting with a different gain level (and more compression) for the slap song?
Plus one...have a setting for anything you consider 'hard attack', say a louder section of a song where you might dig in more. Have another for normal situations. Have another with different gain and compression for the slap passages. Thats the big advantage of that amp. Plus, the compressor is actually pretty good for onboard.
10. If you like the Orange, id opt for the Bass Terror and two easier to move 8 ohm cabinets. If you can go higher in budget, id go for the TC RH450/750 and 2-3 cabs. Seriously good kit.
11. I just wish the Tweed was actually Tweed material....im guessing its just a tolex? The grille cloth is nice though.

Sadowsky

I understand value, etc. It just seems the idea of an 'affordable' Sadowsky doesnt exist now. I know Lakland Skylines arent really the same quality, but thats what it used to seem like to me. Is it me or are the price differences between the Metros and and NYCs getting smaller? Dont get me wrong, I know they are GREAT. The tone is personal thing, but the build quality is top notch (and so it should be). But £2K is a lot for their so-called affordable model. Whereas you can pickup something like a Mayones for £1200. Roger makes a stunning Jazz, but the competition is heating up.

Agreed JTUK, the problem is Fender (sometimes) make absolutely belting awesome basses now. Totally different sound really, but they can SOMETIMES be very very well made. If Metros were the price they used to be a year or so back (£1400 ish?!) Id have ordered one. Now? Hmm, £2000 for a Metro?! Seriously? They are lovely to look at, but its still not an NYC.
14. If its a bit 'rough' make sure its in a proper case. Make sure you can make it secure afterwards eg locked up! Especially if there are celebratory drinks later.
15. Black, closely followed by Brown. Aguilar have the best aesthetics out there...many high end makers should take note! Yes, its all down to tone, but its good to sound AND look good! I had DB212s in Chocolate Thunder, and now I have one 4 ohm DB212 in Black. The thing I prefer on the Black is the tolex is a little thicker. I wouldnt mind a set of DB112s in addition. No idea why.
16. Id be tempted to either buy a new one, or use parts off that one to 'make' another (although Im guessing this might not be possible?!). What was the price when you bought it? Anything under about £150 and id just not bother.
17. Are we talking about using all four fingers to fret here?
18.
Have you tried cheap clubs and a top-class caddy?
I dont have much choice with clubs! Ive been given a few and loaned a few from my teacher. Im literally at the beginning stages.
19. Well, the age old 'tone is in your fingers' definitely seemed to be true on Saturday night. I used another SR P bass Ive acquired because we had no idea about the weather or how secure our gig was going to be (outside on a huge trailer). We did think it was due for a down pour. I was using the provided backline to make it easy for our band to travel there. It was a Hartke head (not the LH, it had a graphic EQ) and a Hartke 4x10. The PA was stunning, so this obviously helped, and the soundman on works very large corporate gigs. Very accomodating, but to be honest he got it right the first time with regards to the bands sound, and my monitors. It took a few moments to get my fingers back into playing mode due to the drop in temperature when we went on (roughly 9.15) but once myself and the drummer had played a few bars we locked in great. Not only did the band get compliments, but I had compliments about my tone and playing as soon as we came off. What I dont understand is, I was using a bass that retails for about £140, and an amp ive never used. What did I learn? I love my high end gear, but I learnt that Hartke gear is damn good. I also realised that the sense of tone is lost once a large PA and an umfamilar amp are thrown in. Even if I had taken my Big Al, would it have made a difference?! To me, maybe, I would have enjoyed giving it its first gig outing. The crowd? They wouldnt have known. I realised as much as I want to learn more, and get better on my 5s, Im doing alright! The letdown was the next day when I played golf (im a beginner) and I quickly became aware of how much work I need to do!
20.
Would you say the TI's are more flexible than rounds or about the same?
Id say they are flexible like a very light gauge of rounds. Very easy strings to use.
21. I have two sets. I cant stand straplocks...hate the clanking and stiffness.
22. Ive tried TIs (AWESOME) and EB Groups IIIs (worth every penny). The TIs are very flexible whereas the Group IIIs are more 'inbetween' medium tension,
23. Swings and roundabouts I guess. Don't be too hard on yourself. My teacher (I had lessons for 2 years when I was about 13/14) forced me to record with an older set of guys when I was 15. At that time, they were quite a professional covers/originals band (they played two different sets). For some reason, recording didnt phase me one bit. It still hasnt to this day, although recently I havent really recorded with anyone who has exceptional chops or anything like that, so Ive always been relaxed. BUT, and this isnt really related to bass, I had a deflating moment this weekend as well. So, I know what you mean. I played a gig on Saturday night, and I must admit as a band we were excellent. Its good when a vocalist compliments your playing! Plus a few audience gave a few compliments, which is a nice feeling. I decided to practice more golf on Sunday, and a friend took me to a 9 hole course for a non competitive practice run. He has been nore than helpful, but wow do I feel out of my comfort zone! Not only do I have barely any equipment (to which the rather rude staff made comments on - complaint going straight to them today) Im actually still a total beginner. Its nothing like other sports where you can pickup a ball (eg football) and have a kick about with friends...it demands so much more from beginners. So, all in all, Im still a total golf newbie, and I dont like being the beginner!
24.
Oh well, purely in the interests of research you understand, I'm about to find out if I agree! I expect delivery this week - 5HH in Honeyburst, Maple board and white pguard. Yup, I have finally ordered my Stingray (again bought blind due to my back-of-beyondness) having gone on about thinking about it for weeks. I was after an HS but wasn't entirely sure why, so when I found out the importer had a HH in stock - I went for that. I think it's the next stage in my oddyssey of Leo designs, having had a Js for years but then a recent P epiphany (as opposed to epiphone obv). I'll be due a G+L this time next month...
I absolutely LOVE my SR5 HS, and the HH is also a brilliant beast!
25. Use them both to taste. It doesnt control the actual tweeter, just acts a bit like a tweeter control (as in dials the high end in and out). It's more like a 'treble sheen' control.
