1. See, the fact its pickup pan and the H is slightly closer to the bridge (not the sweetspot) makes the 5HH a totally different beast to my other basses. But, and this is a big but, I know when I look at my current EBMMs that I will never run out of options, so its a case of myself wanting 'the set' I think. Ill keep on thinking. Monz - That is a great offer. I might well take you up on that very soon! Thank you.
2. Rickys - look awesome, sound awesome...BUT, I just dont feel comfortable playing one. A big shame.
3.
The nuts have been like this for a while. Its is to redue intonation problems, ie yyour strings are compensated for thickness at one end of the string there for with fixed frets the further from the compensation you go (away from the saddles) the further your intonation drifts. This reduces that by having both halves of the string intoned. I think its a great idea, mine work brilliantly.
+1 great design, and it also looks very well engineered. I tried the Warwick Just A Nut III on a Streamer and really didnt get on with it. Its best to keep a Ray stock, IMO.
4. Well, Im normally a tradtional guy when it comes to designs and colours. I like white/sunburst/tobacco burst...in fact everything I own is like that apart from my natural Tele (hushhhh guitar!). In fact, everything apart from the Big Al looks traditional eg Ray/Jazz/P/Sterling. I am one of those that loves the Stingray 5 pickguard shape....maybe im odd! Anyway, the Bongo has always been one of those that I thought 'hmm, I dont think its for me'. But, the shape and youtube demos have grown on me considerably. I agree Fran, the Big Al is a beast of an instrument. It looks a little odd, but its traditional at heart (especially the tone and the fact you can get normal colours). Ive been VERY impressed with mine. The thing is, from day one, I knew I wanted a Big Al. It didnt need to grow on me, it just seemed awesome straight away. Im probably best sticking with what I have for now. Id like to try one ideally before buying.
5. I have ace gear, and I'm ready to almost say 'Im done' for a long time and just play more (which I am now with amps/cabs). But, at the moment I keeping thinking, 'I want a Bongo'. I also want another Fender P... Tell me about your Bongo!
6.
Cheers Gareth. To be honestI'mm not really looking for another head,I'mm selling the STL600 as i prefer the F1 and quite happy to just have the F1. The F500 would be nicer though. If i got a F500 i would then sell the F1. Saying that, who knows what will happen in a month or so. The Shuttle does look nice but i too like the whole Markbass Design.
Yeah, its expensive gear, and simple, but a great flat tone. All I want is a LM4, same power, same design, with semi-para mids, headphone out, aux in, button mute, and same price or lower. Then Id be happy to buy again.
7. Dave, OT but have you considered the Shuttle 9.0? Its a little more towards the F500/F1 tone...very crisp, clear, and precise. I do miss my LM3 every now and then, mainly because I quite like the whole Markbass 'design'...but for now I wouldnt mind seeing if a LM4 comes out.
8. I have read around that the Squier Classic Vibe frets (vintage) are quite slim and wear fairly fast.... Has anyone else experienced it or is it a load of rubbish?
9. Personally, if you can handle the weight, the OBC410 will be a much 'louder' cabinet. The SP410 is smaller, lighter, but apparently its essentially a very capable 2x10. Lots of volume out of a small box, but two of the speakers are working behind the others (isobaric). The OBC410 is cheaper I believe, and is loud/capable, and looks fantastic. Downside? Weight.
10. Few offers but nothing concrete. Stunning value IMO!
11. Seriously cheap rigs! I think TCs main sales is in the RH/RS range, so maybe this larger range didnt work out? The setup with the 2x10 for free is cheaper than most modern combos!
12. Nice!
13.
True but wouldn't they look so much better with a rosewood-n-blocks board than maple?
Another +1. I think the maple with black blocks looks a little cheap.
14. Mine is officially now back for sale and has been restrung with better strings, had a tech setup (whilst I had another bass setup, thought I may as well) and its a belter. Check the for sale thread. Cheers!
15. Ive never liked a Fender P or J with different pups. I owned the USA Deluxe P bass with the humbucker and it was poor, IMO, compared to the Ray humbucker. Id like to try but I doubt id like them.
16. Im thinking of getting a set very soon!
17. Hi all New thread for this. New pics as well. Ive decided to move this on, as I need to free up some space. Top notch condition P bass clone by Sue Ryder in Sonic Blue/Rosewood/White Guard with the cables, tools and strap that came with it. I have the shipping box as well so it will be packed as it was when it came to me. This is an IDEAL backup, or starter bass. Its even good enough to gig with! The high mass bridge is excellent for a Fender copy, and the pickup is surprisingly good. If I didnt need space id keep it but I have another backup as well. Please check my feedback if you wish. All of my gear is very well looked after. This one has a very good neck/body join, great paintwork, fairly low-medium action. It was restrung and checked/adjusted by a tech at my local guitar shop, and the tech was impressed for the price! Payment is cash on collection or via Bank Transfer. I can get it ready and safe for shipping and book a courier. You can also book a courier around times I am home. Alternatively you can pick it up for free! (North East Lincolnshire). I have checked postage on interparcel.com and its £7.50 for a standard parcel, or guranteed next day at around £8.75. More than likely they are both next day delivery anyway. The item would not need insurance at this low value, just the standard cost of postage. It would be packaged very well. Pictures: £65.00 ONO. Can hand deliver to Harrogate this weekend for £70 all in, if that helps.
18. Cheers! Agreed. I've gigged it and been impressed especially at the price point.
19. To the top. £70 ONO.
20.
Are you after one?
I wouldnt mind one at all...but I know the reissue Rippers are VERY expensive
21. Wow, another Cave In fan!
22. I really want a Ripper but they seem hard to come by.
23. Not doubting other cabs sound great, but the RS210 came highly recommended by a Bergantino owner. Never mind price, (and they are well priced) they are hands down an excellent 2x10
24. I think most amps have that protection. I'm not arguing that people shouldn't use other cabs wig the TC below 4 ohm, but the manual on the 450 (haven't read the 750) says use the amp with 3 TC cabs, or at a minimum of 4 ohms with other manufacturers. I have no need to doubt their design, so I'll leave it to them as they are the experts with their own products.
25. I think I'll bow out and wait for the Bass Gear Magazine writeup. If you want to void the warranty, go down to 2.6 (?) or 2 ohms with non TC cabs. There is a vast library of info on talkbass about it.
