1.
Checked it over with a jack-jack last night and there's definately a faulty speakon. Had very speedy email response from Nick Epifani, he's sending over some replacement speakon connectors to the Gallery who'll do the repair and Epifani will pick up the tab... Just need to work out how to get it from Sheffield to London and back before my next practice...
Hate to be the one to always 'get on' at a retailer, but id expect it to be at no cost to you! So, if the cab needs to go back through no fault of your own (eg Epifani) then the store and Epifani should consider this and pick it up from you. In addition, id more than likely be asking for a new cabinet...Im a picky so and so but I wouldnt want a repair (however minor) when its brand new! You might expect it if its 6 months + old or second hand, but not when its probably within the returns policy. Im probably going totally over the top haha!
2. I have a cable I bought when I started, and an awful strap. Ive kept them for some reason even though I dont use them! All works though....about 16-17 years old.
3. That is a serious bit of birdseye!
4. See, I think its the inherent tone on the Class A/B amps and the F series (all 500 watt ratings) that attract me. Strangely, I find it odd that their higher wattage amps havent taken off.
5. The high end difference is definitely noticeable on the 750. If you can afford it, go for it.
6. I remember trying an F500, and as much as I wanted it to be 'it', something wasnt right compared to the LM3, for me anyway. It could have well been the cabinet, and I was a little put off by the controls, but yeah, the LM3 is a classic.
7. Ive got no doubt I dont need another amp, and I know its silly even to think I need to buy an amp I once owned, but still, something is annoying me and saying 'get another' haha.
8. Google Bass Gear Mag, its free to view Very good online magazine. Although, as some have noted on Talkbass, the TC ratings will open a can of worms. If anyone has A/B the TC amps with other micros, taking into account different gain/tapers, the RH450 absolutely slams most other amps in the same category. There is more than meets the eye with the amp, all within the power management.
9. That doesn't seem right to me. Bad batch?
10.
yeah, it sounds like its a very good head. Im now very tempted to look at getting one over a F500.
I must admit, the current lower prices on the RH450 are excellent. Total bargain!
11. Just read that last night. Very interesting! No idea how TC's APM works, but it must be doing its job because the RH450 is super super powerful and loud.
12. Well, I think I have enough amps to realise enough is enough, and ive got no interest in cabinets at the moment. For some unknown reason, I really miss the simplicity and clean tone of my LM3 I sold a while back. I bought it the week it came out and paid a little bit more than they are going for now, and Im sure If I asked I could get one cheaper than the advertised price, but are my ears just deceiving me? The amp I bought in its place, the Genz Streamliner 900, is one hell of an amp. Yes, it is is pure clean tubey warmth with lots of headroom and a fascinating EQ section that sounds different with different gain settings. I dont want to sell it, because its a unique tone Ive not really heard before. It also sounds great...its probably as close as Ill get to a Mesa Walkabout (ish) tone with a lightweight, well featured and well executed package. But, something is telling me the LM3 flat tone is something I really like...simple, no changing of EQ apart from the VLE, and no messing about. It also means I dont have to worry about absolutely battering 'provided' (eg cheap/rubbish) cabinets that are at some of our gigs that cant really take a decent amount of juice. Granted, all amps have master controls, but using a really old cabinet and a 900W at 4 ohm head can sometimes be a bit 'eeek', and I often have the volume lower than I probably should. Im guessing potentially that clean Markbass tone is probably almost in most micros with a bit of tweaking...
13. Love the headstock.
14. Wow, I always wanted the 20th 5 string!
15. The VT bass is also on version 2 now, so if you go for it, ask for that. It has a speaker sim defeat button.
16. I just played my Fender American Series P, and nice as it is, I plugged in my Stingray 5 HS and got lost in how fun and comfortable it is. Im still getting used to the B, but WHAT a B it is! Beautiful build, light, and great tone.
17. Musicman Sterling 5. Looks like a Ray with an extra string (almost). Sounds a little bit more aggressive, but can be tamed as can all basses.
18. My preference, most of the time, is rosewood. Most of my basses are rosewood...with one single H Ray in maple. To be honest, its more of a softer feel with rosewood, something feels different. The maple single H Ray (v sunburst/black plate/maple) looks stunning and im glad its maple as I seem to have a very nice scattering of flame/birdseye in a few areas. Both nice, you cant go wrong.
19. If im getting paid as well as playing, im a happy chap no matter how busy we are.
20. Bargain! I just sold a stock version for £80 (ok it had some new strings) but the owner is more than happy.
21. I have the 5 string version and these basses are fabulous. I was once a die hard Ray/p/j but this bass quickly grew into a classic for me.
22. Glad you are getting into the Big Al! I have mine now and it's better than I expected...finally! It is excellent. Massive tone, great quality, typical EBMM DNA tone.
23. Bergantino make great products, but I still think the ceramic designs are Jim's highlights.
24. Think one is for daisy chaining.
25.
Arrange collection at mine of my 2 CV's and you can borrow them both for a month. Got a friend driving to London regularly? Problem solved.
GW - That's amazingly kind of you, thanks. I used to have a friend who worked between here and London, but alas he engineering work is busier up here so unfortunately, and to his annoyance, he had to move back. I'll see if there are any others willing to help out. Thanks
