1. The DBs can be had for around £400 if you are cheeky. Bass Merchant are the best place for Aguilar...and cheapest.
2. I got it at pre price rise...the difference us quite a lot now! So, I'm going to stick with it and wait.
3.
So far the head will be Genz Benz Shuttle 9.0 ...and cab options appear to be... Bergantino AE112 300W, 40hz-18khz, 100db 1w m, 31lbs, £585 (Bass Direct) - can't get them new now though Aguilar GS112 300W, 42hz-16khz, 95db 1w m, 42lbs, £408 (Bass Gallery) Epifani UL 112 300W, 43hz-16khz, 100db 1w m, 32lbs, £475 (Bass Gallery) Genz Benz Neox-112T 300W, 45hz-18khz, 98db 1w m, 36lbs, £595 (Bass Gallery) Vanderkley 112EXT 300W, 45hz-16khz, 100db 1w m, 33lbs, £550 (Bass Gallery) Barefaced Midget T 400w, 37hz-22khz, 95db 1w m, 22lbs, £550 (Barefaced)
Aguilar DB112?
4. Haha! It should. If I do ever go for a Bongo, it would never be black as Im not a fan of black anyway, so im safe.
5. Only a Ray sounds like a Ray. If you like the Ray sound, that's an excuse to buy one .
6. I did think about the MF, but isn't it more money? Plus, not sure I want maple. Hmmm
7. Price drop to £65 and postage quote in original post.
8. Well once my SR P bass sells ill be ordering a CV P in Fiesta Red. Seems like a much nicer backup to have (note, ill probably not refer to it as a backup, itll probably be the main gigged bass!)
9. Fender being chased as I type. Apparently there was a large backlog due to problems at a factory. Hence why the Deluxe USA series seems to have taken a while to hit the market and be in stock. Its a case of waiting in a large queue!
10. Future buys will hopefully be test driven Totally agree its the way forward. Going to call tomorrow to see what Fender is doing!
11. I would suggest, from previous advice to me, to be very careful with the Bongo pre-amp as a little goes a long way. The Big Al eq, when in active, is 4 band, and so far I love it. Id leave the EQ as it is, dont mod it, it would devalue it quite a lot!
12. Aside from the fact I know that some stores will have actually had stock ongoing, has anyone else experienced problems with waiting times from Fender recently? I ordered a new 3TS/Rosewood Jazz back in March, and still no stock...4 months for a Fender?! I know they had a paint factory problem back near Xmas apparently, so maybe this is a knock on effect?
13. Fantastic photos! You can tell you like photography
14. I told the guy who was selling that (a personal friend) that he should have sold it for much more. Bargain.
15. What would be a reasonable price for a new one thats a discontinued finish? Eg probably made 2008 ish but still brand new? Im looking at a 5HH.
16.
So this is the "Ampeg" of the Genz Benz world? Can this do the crazy things a Tech 21 Sansamp can do?
I have used a stock MIA P bass with the Streamliner 900 and dimed the gain. It definitely does have a pretty damn nice grindy tone, especially with a pick. Its not the same as the BDDI, but another flavour I guess.
17. Ive used the AD200b with the OBC410 plenty of times and it is VERY VERY loud. Masses of rock n roll tone. It is quite a low end friendly cabinet as well, little but more 'ommph' down low compared to the SVT 410HE (im guessing due to the fact the Ampeg is sealed and the way they are both tuned).
18. See, the fact its pickup pan and the H is slightly closer to the bridge (not the sweetspot) makes the 5HH a totally different beast to my other basses. But, and this is a big but, I know when I look at my current EBMMs that I will never run out of options, so its a case of myself wanting 'the set' I think. Ill keep on thinking. Monz - That is a great offer. I might well take you up on that very soon! Thank you.
19. Rickys - look awesome, sound awesome...BUT, I just dont feel comfortable playing one. A big shame.
20.
The nuts have been like this for a while. Its is to redue intonation problems, ie yyour strings are compensated for thickness at one end of the string there for with fixed frets the further from the compensation you go (away from the saddles) the further your intonation drifts. This reduces that by having both halves of the string intoned. I think its a great idea, mine work brilliantly.
+1 great design, and it also looks very well engineered. I tried the Warwick Just A Nut III on a Streamer and really didnt get on with it. Its best to keep a Ray stock, IMO.
21. Well, Im normally a tradtional guy when it comes to designs and colours. I like white/sunburst/tobacco burst...in fact everything I own is like that apart from my natural Tele (hushhhh guitar!). In fact, everything apart from the Big Al looks traditional eg Ray/Jazz/P/Sterling. I am one of those that loves the Stingray 5 pickguard shape....maybe im odd! Anyway, the Bongo has always been one of those that I thought 'hmm, I dont think its for me'. But, the shape and youtube demos have grown on me considerably. I agree Fran, the Big Al is a beast of an instrument. It looks a little odd, but its traditional at heart (especially the tone and the fact you can get normal colours). Ive been VERY impressed with mine. The thing is, from day one, I knew I wanted a Big Al. It didnt need to grow on me, it just seemed awesome straight away. Im probably best sticking with what I have for now. Id like to try one ideally before buying.
22. I have ace gear, and I'm ready to almost say 'Im done' for a long time and just play more (which I am now with amps/cabs). But, at the moment I keeping thinking, 'I want a Bongo'. I also want another Fender P... Tell me about your Bongo!
23.
Cheers Gareth. To be honestI'mm not really looking for another head,I'mm selling the STL600 as i prefer the F1 and quite happy to just have the F1. The F500 would be nicer though. If i got a F500 i would then sell the F1. Saying that, who knows what will happen in a month or so. The Shuttle does look nice but i too like the whole Markbass Design.
Yeah, its expensive gear, and simple, but a great flat tone. All I want is a LM4, same power, same design, with semi-para mids, headphone out, aux in, button mute, and same price or lower. Then Id be happy to buy again.
24. Dave, OT but have you considered the Shuttle 9.0? Its a little more towards the F500/F1 tone...very crisp, clear, and precise. I do miss my LM3 every now and then, mainly because I quite like the whole Markbass 'design'...but for now I wouldnt mind seeing if a LM4 comes out.
25. I have read around that the Squier Classic Vibe frets (vintage) are quite slim and wear fairly fast.... Has anyone else experienced it or is it a load of rubbish?
