1.
Didnt Dan Lakin, one of the co owners sell the company or his share of the company a while back..? Lakland are/were the best in the business for quality... i used to have a 55-01 Deluxe and it was fantastic build quality
Yep...its a much 'bigger' company now.
2. Agreed, the old ones (eg before Hanson took over and when they used boutique pups) were definitely a step above a USA Fender, but now, definitely not.
3. I'm not able to take deliveries for two weeks due to work changes, otherwise I would take this
4. ...and yet again I was left disappointed. I've been trying to buy a DJ5/JO5 for about 2-3 years. I've given up a few times, only to try again. I went into a local store, and they had a fair few in stock. Not only were the pickups well off centre, the bridges were off centre, and the worst part was the paintwork. Near the neck pocket it was very rough and looked like it had been rushed. I checked 3-4 of the basses and they all had similar issues. On one, you could see where they had missed the paint and it was just the primer underneath and bare wood! Now, I might be a fussy sod, but c'mon, £1000+ for something like this?! Weirdly enough, the Squier CV's and Fender MIM 50s P were almost perfect!
5. I was going to buy a Neox 212T at one point...still interested but Im waiting to see what happens with the cab/neo market over the next year or so.
6. That's ridiculous! The cab is made to pair with the 500W combo which is the same power as the LMTube!
7. Once you play a Ray, it starts to pull you towards THAT tone But yeah, a P bass is boss.
8. Fender had something on their site a year or so back that mentioned the best storage is in its proper hardcase, then having the hardcase upright, so the bass is stood up like it would be on a stand. This saves room and apparently it is easier on the neck. No idea if that is true but that is how all of mine are stored.
9. Always miss Musicman basses...so now I barely ever stray.
10. If you were closer I'd be interested in trying it out...but I'm reet up north!
11.
This is my second stingray and my previous one didn't have this "issue" I understand that the pickup plays a big part in that "stingray" sound. I just like my top end to cut through a bit more than it is currently. With you having lots of Rays Musicman20 how dramatic would the change likely be? Would it be massively different or would it be subtle?
I've heard some pup changes in Ray's that make them sound quite different - some get close, but part of the attraction to Musicman basses, for me anyway, is that the pup, pre, etc, are already the best for the bass. That's all IMO though. Try what Pete has mentioned, and good luck!
12. I'll keep my eye out, good luck!
13. Its just the nature of the beast. I haven't experienced it before and I've had a lot of Rays. Changing the pups will change the character of the sound, which is the main reason Ray's are popular. Make sure you keep the original!
14.
found this on the net about the footswith A TC Electronic ‘Switch 3’ footswitch can be added for even more control. TonePrint effects can be punched in and out and the amp can be muted. Furthermore, even though the TonePrint knob controls one effect at a time, the previously loaded effect is stored in the internal circuit and with the third switch this effect can be punched in and out as well, which in reality gives BH250 a dual effect section capable of combining any 2 of the 6 effect types available.
Class!
15.
The really lucky ones have both...
Haha
16.
I think Sandberg, altho I guess less inconic than Wicks right now, has to be chucked in here. I've owned a Warwick, German made, and right now am on my second Sandberg. The Bergs are sensational instruments - and a whole lot better looking than Warwicks
I want one of the new PJ style California VT basses. Awesome!
17. I'm on 17.5 mm at the mo anyway, so close ish.
18.
well with all your problems with bad basses being sent back, never heard much bad from warwick on that respect
True! In fact most German products are normally very well engineered and finished.
19. I'm hoping the official Warwick guy will come along and say: 'Gareth, to you, £1500 for a BO5 German made'
20. It does sound fantastic doesn't it! Perfect for back pickup digging in which personally I love!!!
21. It's never up North! Nice bass. I give it ten mins.
22. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7spc7CHbT_Q Back pup...love it. Its partly his technique but I like this bass. I bet they are nigh on £3K now.
23. I wanted this last time but alas I live nowhere near you.
