[/quote] Much more flexible than a P bass....very distinctive tone but the differences with the 3 band EQ, flats, rounds, steels, fingers, pick, slap, is outrageous. Once you get a HS or HH then you have ultimate flexibility. They have a bump in the mids somewhere which is why the are prominant in the mix...but yep, big clear bottom, and can have extreme and slicing highs should you want them. You need to try one! You might be converted instantly!

The 12.2 would be nice if you wanted to run more speakers, but if its the normal 2x8 or 1x4 (ohms) then the 9.2 is the one.

Now I want something portable, so would it be a good idea to get a good quality PC laptop or spend more on a Macbook?
  9. I don't have time to learn how to read music (but somehow passed Grade 5 and got an A in GCSE Music) and I barely ever use tab, but I think it should stay, 100%.

[/quote] Thanks, yeah Mouse and Keyboard are enough for me. We are a mixture of electro/rock/punk so a lot of the time its quite 'basic' in terms of our skills needed. Its more about the right songs at the right time with what we do.
  12. Pete - the 6.0/6.2 Max will give you a 600W single amp with two channels - Pure FET, Pure TUBE, or a blend. The blend really works well. The 12.0/12.2 Max will give you 600W x 2 (2 poweramps) with two channels (both poweramps have the same pre I assume) - Again, Pure FET, Pure TUBE, or a blend. The 9.2 Max will give you a 900W single amp into two channels - Again, Pure FET, Pure TUBE, or a blend. These amps get overlooked because of their size, but they are ridiculously light and well made. I had a 9.0 Shuttle a while back and I much prefer the fact I can do almost anything with the 9.2 Max. Plus the three filters are adjustable, and you get two mid controls with a freq. knob for each. Recently I've been looking at amps, as I tend to have an addiction to them, and then I play the Max 9.2 and realise there isn't much more I can ask for. Stunning flexibility and power in a lightweight, well made amp with a quality service behind it from Genz.
  13. Hi all. You may remember my recent posts about trying out Synth’s and branching out a little. I’ve realised what I really need is a good laptop to allow me to do the following: DJ – myself and a friend run a DIY free entry DJ Night back home, and its just had its 5[sup]th[/sup] anniversary. I don’t plan on giving this up as we only do it once or twice a year, and we are looking at spreading our wings to Newcastle. I’d like a laptop that can run the DJ programs and possibly allow some new mixes to be put in. Keyboards – I figured if I want to play Synth, what I could do is get a good keyboard plug in for the laptop and just go from there. That way I can use other programs with it to, for instance, create my own music, create tracks for basslines to be put over, and general have more flexibility. Synths – See above. Can a ‘plug in’ keyboard used with a good laptop be used for synth work as well? Go easy on me if that is blindingly obvious! Recording – Use programs to plug my bass into the laptop to allow recording, (I’d need an interface unit, which is fine). What do I really need to get to allow all of this? I’m guessing: Half decent laptop Correct cables Keyboard plug in Programs (DJ program, recording program, etc) USB Interface for bass and guitar input Can anyone recommend if this is a good route to take? I was going to just buy a Microsynth XL, but I figured what I am proposing will allow a lot more flexibility. Thanks!

[/quote] Haha, seriously though, I wasn't referring to anyone in particular, it was more so virtually everyone on Talkbass who have also shunned the amp after the review. There are many players on here who did the same thing. I can totally understand if the tone isn't right or it squishes something and you don't like it. No offence intended...just a general look at the backlash. Its also now happening with Ampeg and their seriously bad quality control that is causing a right huff over there with the Ampeg fans and endorsees. I would have thought, in my use of the Streamliner, that it would have been almost perfect for your tone goals (I think) but if it wasn't, plenty of other options. I have found over last year, using anything from a simple P copy, to a real P, and a Ray, that the right bass works through any rig to be honest. A flatwound strung P bass with the tone rolled off sounds pretty similar through most rigs...like a P bass, (IME!)

[/quote] It IS very creamy and tubey, I agree. Again, if you don't want a lot of low end, the amp MIGHT not be for you. It kicks like a mule with a P bass or Stingray.
  22. Its not the 'in' amplifier at the moment. TC stole a huge share of the micro market, everyone enjoyed them (IF they liked the tone, which is aimed at a tube amp being 'pushed' a little hence the slight compression) then the Bass Gear Mag came out, everyone suddenly said 'oh yes, I heard it wasn't loud and had no lows'.Then, as usual, out come the 'engineers' who start spouting off specs just like the threads on modern DIY cabs. Seriously, just listen to it. Like it? Great, think about getting one. Don't like it, great, don't get one. If you read the first 4 or so huge megatheads on Talkbass, you will see how good the reception was for these products. Funny thing is, the same people who now slate it loved the amp for a year, but got bored and moved onto the next big thing. Now it seems the next big sellers are tube pre amps, a slight move towards full tube amps, etc. Me? I'm sticking with it. The quality is outstanding, the DI is superb and the best I've used, the features are actually very useful, and tone is right there for me, (a low mid kicker). If you want huge sub bass, no, it isn't for you, but then again there are many amps that avoid huge low end as you need the speakers to handle it.
  23. You could say 'there are a lot of jazz basses for sale at the moment' or 'there are a lot of Dingwalls for sale on Talkbass', both fairly true, but not representative of a market. Before this thread turns into another spec vs spec, I suggest the OP just tried it out, in a normal environment and not in a test vacuum which can change everytime they do it. As with these expensive DIY cabs that are around vs normal commercial cabs, listen before judging on the specs.

  25. Operation Ivy is the same bassist (Freeman) with Tim Armstrong on guitar. This was pre-Rancid...it's raw hardcore punk mixed with a lot if ska and the bass for a young band is ridiculous. Check out 'Bombshell'...
