1. Big fan, saw them on the Jazz World Stage at Glastonbury in the 90's , blew me away.....
2.
why not just make yourself another?
Sounds good in theory, but I am no longer building basses and have sold off all my bench machines, plus now I am earning a decent wage it makes sense to buy and not build ! These two basses were early 'parts' builds with imported bodies and necks before I started hand building from scratch.
3. Here are a couple I built about 3 years ago. Does anyone know where they are ? I would love to have either (or both) of them back. Paul
4. Oh dear, that doesn't look good. and it doesn't look like Ebanol either. From what I can gather from Tanglewoods specs, the fingerboard features 'compressed ebony' not ebanol. I would guess your bass has had a thin veneer of ebony over what looks like Rosewood. There is not much you can do to restore the finish without refinishing the board and a re-fret. If you are mearly concerned about cosmetics try some ebony wood stain followed by good old black shoe polish. Ebanol boards are 6mm - 7mm thick, and (as was mentioned) are a phenolic resin. They are used as an alternative to ebony on fretless basses as they are very wear resistant. I have used Mighty Mite necks with ebanol boards in my builds and the stuff is rock hard.... Paul
5. MORE STOLEN BASSES A friend has asked me to alert the forum to these stolen basses. Paul.... Unfortunately one of our colleagues based at our Dawsons Warrington branch has had a few guitars stolen from the back of his car yesterday..... Gibson G3 Bass (photo attached) late 70s Black - but badly re-painted Maple neck It was in a quite rare, Fender Tweed Gig bag, which didn't close properly. This bass still had the tags on it from Johnny Roadhouse music. It was fitted with a black and white checked strap also A Fender Jazz Bass, Mexican 1993 (he thinks) All black with a black scratch plate Rosewood Upgraded BAD-ASS II bridge in chrome. Fender Strat control knobs in black with white text. This was in a modern Japanese Fender padded gig bag with a used leather strap. Please contact us on 01925622182 if you have any information as to its whereabouts, or alternatively call Warrington Police on 01925652222 (crime incident number 0712270658) (He is also offering a small reward for the retrieval of said guitars..)
6. Mike bought my Vintage MM copy recently. Was very patient ( I was on holiday) but paid immediately and was a joy to deal with. cheers Mike. Paul
7.
how do you get to the trussrod on these? 'tisn't obvious.
Tis under the scratchplate. SALE PENDING
8. I bought this new in 1998, used it for 12 months then passed it on to my niece who is now in Australia and it is collecting dust. Very good condition, sounds good , plays nice. The A string went on it so it needs strings now (or a spare A string) For an extra £10.00 I'll fit some and set it up. Paul
9.
http://www.davewilderbass.com/
Cheers for that, I had looked at the website and decided they had the same hair and basses but Mr Wilder must look younger than his years in real life, so I thought the guy on Saturday was somebody else. The fact he was playing keys as well should have made me realise. cheers Paul
10. Who is the bass player with Sam Sparro on his European Tour ? He uses Jazz basses. Saw him last night at the Manchester Deaf Institute, superb.

12. The last thing I want to do when listening to music in the lounge is have to fire up my laptop. I already have about 500 MP3 albums on the laptop and when working indoors have this plugged into a small music system. What I want is a stand-alone unit that holds my entire CD collection in lossless .wav format that is easily accessible and sits on top of my Hi-Fi amp. Just need to know if the output from the Brennan D/A converters is comparable with a good CD player.
13.
According to the website the default compression rate is 192k, so if you wanted 100% lossless storage you wouldn't be able to store anywhere near as many CDs as is generally advertised... I'll be very interested to read further comments though, I was looking at one of these as well but had the same concerns about quality. I get the impression it's not exactly a high-end bit of kit!
I have noticed the 500GB version will copy uncompressed so I would get my 500 CD's on that and at 12x record (5 minutes a CD) would only take 40 hours of copying. But I wonder if the D/A converter is any good as I would be using the line out on the unit into my power amp.
14.
It is. The final assembly would include the bright switch, bass, treb, vol and stereo output jack for the battery switching.
Sounds a great idea, I would be happy to try them in my basses Paul
15.
You pushed this monster through the streets to practice every weekend ?! Man you deserve an award or something. that is some serious Roy Castle type dedication!!
I did , but thankfully our rehearsal hall ( Methodist Church congregation Hall) was only 100 yards away. Getting it back up the stairs into my bedroom was the worst bit ! In a quest for more volume I rewired the speakers to 2ohms. It actually lasted quite a while which was testament to the quality of it. Two of the speakers were then put in a home made 2x12 cab which I ran with an Orange Bass Head. Not sure what happened to the Orange ? probably swopped it for some illegals....those were the days
16. I have been looking into getting one of these http://www.brennan.co.uk/ but I am a bit of a Hi-Fi snob and worry that the quality won't compare well with the original CD's Has anyone got one and if so what are your impressions and what gear do you run it through ? Paul
17. Meths is wonderful stuff good for cleaning as well, as it will not soak in. Refinish with teak oil and buff up. Cheap and simple, Paul
18. Geez I remember going down to Rumbellows on Market Street in Chorley with my mum and dad to pick a radiogram in the 1960's Have another bump.....love the synth tones.
19. Buy a Westone Thunder 1A instead.
20.
The Fender Precision is the perfect bass for me and my needs. At those prices my next one will have Shuker written on the headstock.
Well said that man I am sure the new fenderish AGC's will be an option for many as well. Come on guys buy British , you know you want to.
21. He is relying on the 'ebay effect' in that many people think that if they buy from ebay they will be getting a bargain. It amazes me that people don't check new prices first ! Interestingly all his feedback is private.
22. Loved the Tubes (back in the day) and thanks to this song we were known as the 'White Dopes on Punk'
23.
Oops, and in colour this time:-
Cool picture but there seems to be a bit of 'Pauline's Pens' going on.
24. On the Hi-Fi Mozart Eine Kliene Nachtmusik And this guy, amazing technique and good use of slap (considering I am not a fan of it)
