1. Good stuff, certainly not 'old sh*t' it's creative, sounds good and more than that you took the time to write it and produce it. I also found some 'old sh*t' from from even further back in 98/99 Slightly different but I like it. https://soundcloud.com/prosebass/tracks
 2. Single coils (bridge coil only) play with your fingers 2 inches from the bridge and no matter what the bass or what the amp you will always get the same tone. This is proven as Mrs Prosebass says all my basses sound the same!
 3.
the point you are making is rubbish! any amp is tested and will be fine! the extra heat your talking about is designed in to the amp and wint hurt anything in it, im mean if your that worried about the components im surprised you ever turn your bloody amp on!
In which case my position as a materials quality assurance specialist is bogus, and everything manufacturers produce is just hunky dory. Thanks for that, I have now stopped worrying about anything ever failing.
 4. Back to the top with a Scott Whitley demo of the FJB6, the cheaper one! For those of you worried about weigh it is a sturdy bass weighing in at 10lbs
 5.
What's the nut width and neck profile like my good man please? Oh ...and......YAWN.....do you have any idea of weight please, sorry, but if I don't ask, someone will!!
Hi nut width is 42.5mm neck profile is similar to a Jazz and weight is approx 4.2KG Neck depth at 1st fret is 19mm from back of neck to top of fret. At the 12th it is 21mm Spacing at the bridge is 20mm center to center of strings. Hope this helps Paul
 6.
that will be the Shakin Stevens vid.
Green Door I hope Meshell for me also. Although Jaco got me interested in picking up a bass in the 1970's I always though Weather Report were at their best with Alphonso Johnson before him and Victor Bailey after him. Both masters of groove.
 7.
yes maximum volume! not loading im sorry but i cant agree with this, its designed to be run at 4ohms why would anyone make 4 ohm cabs if they new it would damage there amps
I think the thread is confusing 2 separate issues. If an amp is designed to run down to a certain resistance (load) and the cab / cabs are matched to that then no, it should not damage the amp. However, if you also run the amp at maximum output (turned up full) all the time then said amp will not last as long as an equivalent amp run at a lower output (turned down) as there is less amperage flowing through the amplifier. This is in an ideal world and other factors such as transformer rating can effect the loading and 4ohm speakers with a cheap amp can appear as a 2ohm load under certain conditions and hence the amp goes 'pop' The relationship between amp and speakers is not as straightforward as it appears http://www.gcaudio.c...os/spkramp.html Unfortunately you will never get an amplifier manufacturer to divulge failure figures, but I am sure quality amps will run at maximum for years. Looking at amp reviews I do not think the same can be said for budget models. No speaker cab will (should not) damage an amp provided its rating in ohms is no less than that recommended for the amp. But electrical parts do wear out, just the same as mechanical parts and the more stress you place on them the lower their lifespan. Hope this clears it up
 8.
im afraid your not making any sense! your just relaying info thats wrong, yes using the amp at 4 ohms will mean it runs hotter but its been designed to run at 4 ohms. so there wnt be any shortening of the amps life. and saying this will worry people. andy
Running an amp at its maximum will shorten its life when compared to running it well within its capabilities. This is due to electrical stress on the components. To quote my previous reply
An amp is designed to operate at its maximum output without damaging the components. However any electrical component has a given life span derived from a complex formula used in the design stages as part of a FMECA (failure, mode, effect & criticality, analysis) This will formulate the design parameters of the amp and lead to a MTBF (mean time between failure) This is why cheap components in cheap amps fail sooner than quality components in quality amps for a given use. You really do get what you pay for.
9.
I never said that either Chris. Yes, it's safe to run an amp at 4Ω (or in your case, 2Ω). But the higher the resistance you put on it, the more current is drawn, therefore the hotter the components get. It's really that simple.
Sorry to be a pedant but the lower the resistance = more current drawn
 10. An amplifier will output a maximum voltage into a cab(s) of a given resistance. For example my Peavey Tour 450 will deliver a maximum of 42.4v RMS (with good quality Class II wiring) If you do the maths 42.4 x 42.4 = 1797.76 Divide this by 4 (ohms) = 449.44 (watts) Divide this by 8 (ohms) = 224.72 (watts) Power input into the amp is 600 watts so its efficiency (output/input) = 75% at 4ohms An amp is designed to operate at its maximum output without damaging the components. An amp will have a given lifetime running at full power, running at lower power it will last longer, so yes the analogy with a cars engine revs is correct. Speaker efficiency is much more complex and I would suggest reading here http://www.sengpiela...-efficiency.htm To give a quick example remembering (+/- 10dB = double/half) loudness. My Peavey 450 running (224.72 watts) into a single Genz Benz Contour 210 cab (8 ohms / 97dB) will produce a SPL (sound pressure level) of 120.52dB at 1 meter. Using two cabs with the equivalent (8ohms) load will make no difference to the actual SPL Two of these 8ohm cabs in parallel (4ohms / 97dB) makes only a small difference even though the wattage from the amp is doubled to 449.44watts.This gives an SPL of 123.53dB Using the same Peavey 450 with a Barefaced Super 15 (4ohms / 103dB) will produce a SPL of 129.53dB so getting towards double the volume from the same amp. This demonstrates why it is important to check the efficiency of a cab and not just what power it will handle. Its power handling taken alone has no bearing on loudness. Distance from the audience also has a huge bearing on loudness (SPL) and a good rule of thumb is 3-5 meters will half your loudness (SPL)
 11. Farida FJB 20 Jazz Bass Sunburst - Rosewood, S1 Kiogon Wiring Another recent acquisition from [member='bagsieblue'] £225.00 shipped UK / £200.00 if you pick up from Chorley Lancashire PR7 No trades as I have a few basses to move on. These are excellent basses and this one features a 3 piece Swamp Ash body and a Maple / Rosewood neck from a FPB 18 that has a slim Jazz profile and jazz neck dimensions. Truss rod adjustment is at the heel as per 'proper' Fenders and sounds come from 2 alnico single coil pickups. Bass is in excellent condition, scratchplate has scratches (hence the name) and the body has miniscule micro scratches (the ones you get from polishing too much) Has proper jazz tones and is very very well made. Certainly one of the better Fender clones and IMHO better than Fender's less expensive offerings. The Kiogon wiring loom and pots enable both pickups to be used in series (tone pull pot) which gives a much fatter and deeper sound. 12. Fame Baphomet (Baff-O-Met) Gothic MM/MM Rare bass in the UK. Hand built in Poland and very much resembling a Mayones and certainly of the same quality. MEC 2 band active with 2 x MM style MEC pickups.Has a big powerful sound well suited to rock. Recent strings (45-105 DR Sunbeams) and I will set the action however you like it. Bought from [member='Bassdude BE'] Price of £295.00 if you pickup from Chorley Lancashire PR7 Shipping UK will be £25.00 Will be very well packed and will include an as new good quality Ritter Carry Bag. More info here http://tinyurl.com/n259nl9 There are a few small marks to the body, the worst around the jack socket which do not detract from this stunning bass. 13.
Its a lovely looking bass but £1k for a bit of nostalgia :-S Also, I have to ask. I can understand snapping a headstock once or even twice but how did you manage to damage the same bass so badly THREE times?!

Its a lovely looking bass but £1k for a bit of nostalgia :-S Also, I have to ask. I can understand snapping a headstock once or even twice but how did you manage to damage the same bass so badly THREE times?!
As I remember, the first time it was propped against my amp and fell over. My father pinned and glued it but it came apart one day as I spun round and clobbered my amp with it. After the second repair it was only a matter of time before it just fell apart again, which it did when a friend picked it up by the headstock! Soon after (my 18th birthday in 1979) I was treated to a Hofner solid body S7B and the Ibanez was thrown away!
This link should work better.

It looks a beaut. Keep looking or drop the guy an email telling him how pleased you were to see it. You never know The style looks very much like some of the Burns basses.
It was indeed styled after the Burns. Found another pic of the bass from my 'Bruce Foxton' era
 15. I have been searching for years for another Ibanez 5902 from the 1960's as it was my first bass. Tonight I have found one on ebay http://preview.tinyurl.com/nxqht6n Unfortunately it is priced at a little too much for nostalgia at £999.00 Mine was also mahogany as I stripped the paint and french polished the body and fitted a Gibson Grabber style scratchplate back in 1978. I snapped the neck at the headstock twice and it was repaired. After the third time it snapped I think I threw it away I can only find one picture of me with it and it only shows the headstock! Could I possibly sneak this one in through the backdoor?
 16. My Orange Superbass of 79 vintage (where did it go? have you seen it? it's a mystery to me) through a home brew 2 x 12 cab. Why? perfect for small gigs (all I ever did) lovely edgy sound with lots of bottom.
 17. Hi Christian, welcome to the good ship Basschat and long may you sail in her.... Steer clear of 'off topic' and you won't go far wrong Paul
 18. Many a fine tune played on an old [s]fiddle[/s] guitar....

 21.
Hmmmmm. Sounds suspiciously like the incidental music for a 70s American cop show. I kept expecting the name Lalo Schifrin to waft across the screen ...
Ouch..... it was very late, and I had been on the pop Just for you
 22. Just discovered this, it's epic
 23. Facebook is free Wordpress is free Soundcloud up to 90 minutes is free Twitter is free (if you like to pester people) The problem is coherent content, updating it constantly and making it visible. Looking after all this is time consuming and you need to be very strict about this. There is nothing worse than looking at a band page and seeing it has been 6 months since any content was added. If you go down the website route, I can thoroughly recommend Wordpress but ensure your site looks best on mobile devices. Although all this is good for getting bookings / existing fans, it can have the opposite effect as far as future fans are concerned. If you post all your music and videos on-line many will make a snap judgement on that content as to whether they want to see you live or not. We all know there is nothing better than seeing a band live and some web content I have seen posted would put me off seeing a band. Keep your videos and sound clips short and of good quality. Don't use the media as a library, use it as a showcase. Don't forget https://www.skiddle.com/promotion/ which is also a good site for promotion and selling tickets for your gigs.
 24. I was there in 78 for the Ramones Live and did get them (stood in front of a massive PA stack) and yes I still listen to them occasionally. Their live gigs were brutally loud. No comment on Springsteen, never got that 'type' of music.
 25.
I've received my tickets for the Glasgow gig on May 1st. Has anyone else booked tickets for any of the UK dates?
Band on the Wall Manchester 14th May
