  1. I have one of these for - bought secondhand for home practice, and it's extrelemy capable. For £30 someone is getting a really usable small combo. GLWTS!
  2. From memory it was insulation tape, but I did spend a few minutes getting it tightly wrapped and neat, and then a bit longer getting just the right amount on there - there was probably only one wrap between a snug fit and not being able to push the ferrule in. I think it would only really be successful if the amount of diameter you are trying to make up is quite small - 1-2mm maybe. Any more and you might be more frustrated than triumphant, but I did get it to work well enough. There is no getting away from the fact that it’s a bodge though!
  3. It's a total bodge, but I did once solve the same problem by doing the opposite... and making the ferrules bigger. I found that carefully wrapping them in a length of tape they became a snug fit in the hole, and only added a gram or two to each one in the prcess. It's not much of a solution, but it allowed me to check that the neck dive was reduced, and I did end up leaving them that way for a lot longer than originally intended with no ill effects.
  4. Bought a midi controller from Dan - really good item, and it came packaged to survive the worst our postal system could throw at it. He kept in touch throughout the purchase as well - cheers fella!
  5. So true - I 'learned' a bunch of songs for a cover band audition and exactly one of them worked straight out of the box. They had been slowly drifting towards their own way of playing some of their set for years. Got the gig though :-)
  6. This might have been included here before, but quite a long time ago? Bit of a rarity I think - unusual pickups too: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1982-Gordon-Smith-Bass-Not-gigged-in-mint-condition/202056483895
  7. I've got one of these (bought on ebay years ago) and it works suprisingly well if you have a suitable cab to hang it from. This and your current stand equals home on stage for 2 basses.
  8. I've got a couple of those Gator hard foam cases - they are a good compromise between weight, protection and price IMO.
  9. I think the condition being stated as for parts / not working is an error - they have a bunch of basses for sale that all have the same thing on the listing, but some of them are clearly not described like that (where they have added some details) - like this Status S2 Classic Trace Elliot Custom Electric Bass Guitar That might have been bad example... I looked at the pictures of that Status bass and it has been well beaten... and there are 'Used' and 'Refurbished' ones listed that are tidier... bloody expensive if not actually working...
  10. Bought a bridge and cover for a P-bass from Lee - nice easy deal, arrived really quickly and all for a good price! Nice guy to deal with as well - would recommend!
  11. I've got a love of old Trace heads as well - mine are mostly 150 and 250 watt jobs, from different series and with different preamp sections. I really like the 150 watt ones with the GP11 preamp, which are also not really that heavy, and gutsy enough for most situations I find myself in. I've got a 250SMX (with fan) that I use for the occasional bigger room, but it's probably more vanity than necessity... the non-fan ones do get hotter to the touch, but like PaulWarning mentioned, not so hot as to worry about. For now at least the prices on the old TE stuff are so good, that your collection could get big quickly... The only weakness I've really found on these are the switches for pre-shape and graphic, which are quite easily replaced, or just make sure you have a two-button footswitch (non-latching type) with the stereo 1/4 jack around to take care of it.

I bought a Levy's strap from Nick. It was like new, just as he said, and arrived super quick as well... I made the deal on Wednesday morning and had said item in my hand on Friday morning. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend :-)
  13. I sold my Peavey 115BX to Guy. Very easy, very friendly, knows his stuff, and as mentioned above - an all round Basschat good egg! Would not hesitate to recommend Guy to anyone thinking of buying or selling with him.
  14. You could try one of the DHA pedals, although obviously they are not being made new anymore - RIP Dave. I have a one of the basic models, an DHA VT1 MkIII (I think) which I have used as an always-on effect to warm up my sound with a solid state amp. While it is quite capable of generating overdrive if required, it was also designed to be used for just putting some tube warmth in the signal and is very controllable. It isn't tiny, would take up about the same amount of pedal board space as two 'standard' Boss pedals at a guess, but I really like it...
  15. An SVT and 8x10 + cases = real heft! I bet it sounded good though 🙂 At least you got to enjoy the benefit of youth and stupidity with a rig like that. I was still a skinny-string player when this Trace combo was new, blissfully ignorant of the pleasures of playing bass through a monster setup 😉 You're probably right about the casters - get a trolley instead 🙂 If these things are ever going to be worth serious money, then someone should get it while it's cheap - big hint to any other TE aficionados out there! And even if not, you'll have got something very good for very cheap...
  16. I suppose that compared to something like an Ampeg where just the head weighs in at over 80 pounds, it still is! I do like plenty of the class D, neo loaded light-as-a-feather gear, especially if I'm moving it... but there is still something intangibly wonderful about these rigs with a bit of 'heft'... and in this case it might not be light by modern standards (or any standards) but it's portable enough, and you can always put it on wheels 🙂
  17. Yes, they will do that... even though this is technically lightweight for a Trace combo 😉
  18. No worries - I've got plenty of Trace gear to keep me happy, this would just have been an early Christmas present to myself 🙂 GLWTS though... I can't see this hanging around for long!
  19. I'm in St. Neots - the Cambridgeshire town rather than the Cornwall one!
  20. That's a lot of TE goodness for not a lot of money, and it looks very very clean. If I were nearer I would have this! Someone is getting a bargain...
  21. Once during a rehearsal, and once having just set up for a gig... one a series 6 TE and the other a Mk V TE - both heads rather than combos. The rehearsal failure was a mystery. Mid song it just cut out? I used to carry a Crate Powerblock - anyone remember them? - in case of emergency and used that to finish the practice, but the supposedly broken amp was fine when I got it home, and has been ever since. The gig failure was human error... my amp and cab were as usual on top of the keyboard amp which is a huge Peavey on casters, and someone (still don't know who) pushed the lot back against a wall, and the speaker lead hit first, damaging the socket in my cab, effectively killing the rig. I got round it by going through a BD121, used as a pre-amp, into the spare channel of the Peavey - sounded a bit sh*t but got me through the gig. I should have used the pre-amp stage of the bass head, but at the time I had no idea what was wrong and 5 minutes to sort something out for the gig, so took the quickest safe option. I guess that between us all in the band we can work around certain problems, but there are so many things that could go wrong - and no realistic way to account for them all.
