No country for old men. Great soundtrack!

It's kind of the same argument I posted a while back about Spectors Euro. I could not see how the American NS could be so much better that it cost two or three grand more. The Euro is pretty much perfect, but there's a snobbish market that demands things to be made in America. I have two American Fenders and am delighted with them, however, I also have a Japanese Fender, which is just as good. At the end of the day, it's all down to your pick ups and strings, innit? I do confess to having severe GAS for one of those Teddy Lee basses. Anyone got any info on how much?

I never realised there were so many aluminium basses out there! I must say right enough, the bass in my original post is by far the best looking and what a sweet sounding B string!

If only, it was a horrible deep gash that didn't look nice at all, especially with the rest of said guitar being nice and shiney .

I bought a Telecaster out of guitar guitar in Glasgow a while back, and the salesman was not letting on the sunburst one I wanted, had a big gouge out the back. I noticed and opted for a wine coloured one but I was quite disappointed that A, he didn't mention it and 2, he never offered a decent discount if I was prepared to take it.

I'm a massive Lizzy and Phil fan. Love all the albums . Much respect to the man. I'm really enjoying the black star riders, who sound very like Lizzy, which I think is an homage rather than a rip off .

I too , play guitar and bass and as for the calouses, I'm sure being a guitarist, you've been through it before. It's just you get different ones with the bass because your hitting the string slightly different with playing big bits of wire instead of slender twine. Good luck and welcome

We just play what we like and what we think the punters will like. I've been with the same band for ever but if I was joining a different band, I would expect them to allow me time to learn the stuff. How can you know what songs to learn? You would need an enormous repertoire of songs to be able to just slot in with any band, plus just knowing all these songs wouldn't be enough, you'd have to practise them all the time or they would go out your head. There's lots of songs we used to play, and if someone comes up and asks for one, I'm like, I can't remember it, and they are all cheesed off cos you used to always play it. Muscle memory doesn't always last for ever. Ok, a quick run through and it comes back, but to expect someone just to know tons of songs is a big ask!

Mate, we played a party one night. The electrics were really dodgy and my amp kept cutting out, so there were long periods of no bass in the first set. During the break, I di'd straight into the desk for the rest of the gig. The thing was during the break folk came up to us and said, that was brilliant! One guy even booked us on the strength of that woeful performance. Thing is, you thought your sound was sh*t. Everyone out front never noticed, I bet you all the tea in China!

I've got lots of basses. Gibson, Status, Ibanez,Spector, Sandberg and I love them all, but when I play live, I always take the Fenders. I don't know why. I just trust and love the sound of them, the feel of them , the weight of them....I just love them!

We always end with " the Gael" ( the last of the Mohicans tune) start it really slow and it gradually builds till its a full on boogie. It always goes down well and really gets folk dancing!

I too, must defend Thomann. I've bought loads of gear from them over the years and the service has been second to none. Even though it's coming from Germany, it arrives quicker than many UK. Based firms! I'd use them again easy!

why would anyone want an unplayable guitar as decoration? I suppose as has been said, restaurants and such might want them on the wall. Interestingly, I've seen some really cheap copies on walls trying to make out they are genuine guitars from famous people or at least allowing people to believe that's the case.

I use an MXR M80 just because it's got the nicest grind I've ever heard. I like grind I do.

There's far too many songs from a 40 year career to try and get a non believer into Rush in just a few pages of a forum. [/quote] I've seen them at the S.E.C.C. a few times and that place is renowned for having a rotten sound. Also seen them at Ingleston in Edinburgh many moons ago and the sound was bloody awful, but I'm sure it was the venues fault and not the bands sound man. Both venues never stopped me having the time of my life seeing my heroes live!

We too, have the problem with, someone suggests a song , three of us agree, but if the guitarist doesn't want to do it, he conveniently forgets to learn it, hoping it will get forgotten, but if he likes a song, he learns that instead of rehearsing ones he's meant to do! It's very annoying and I find the only way around it is to keep on and on until he is embarrassed enough to have a go. I've always been better than him at choosing which songs will go down well, so I know I'm right !

Rush have always been my favourite band since my school days and I've seen them on every tour apart from one when I was working, but I went through a stage in the early 90's when I kind of lost track and stopped buying their albums. Then a few years ago, I downloaded their complete back catalogue and I was blown away by the material that I'd missed. All those years wasted, They had remained my favourite band, but I was living on their old albums and not progressing with them. I think they are just getting better and better since they left the keyboard oriented sound and came back to their rock roots. I hope they go on for another 10 years.......R50?
