  1. David De-fretting is easy enough but gets fret pullers. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fret-Puller-for-Guitar-Bass-Luthier-tool-Bridge-Pin-Puller-Hardened-Steel-/131339829251?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item1e9476c003 and heat the frets with a soldering iron first to loosen them, then it's just a case of filling the neck with a veneer, trim them off then sand and coat. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pick-Your-Own-Wood-Veneer-Marquetry-Sheets-Can-Choose-Iron-on-or-Unglued-/290934693119?pt=UK_Crafts_Other_Crafts_EH&var=&hash=item43bd0f1cff £6.50 for the pullers and £2 for veneer. Or you could look for a Westone Thunder II fretless, they were medium scale basses.
  2. Andy That is a thing of beauty. Yourself and Bryan have come up with a classic. I keep thinking of peacock feathers when I look at the veneer and colours. It's just so cool. KB
  3. Go for it AT The review credit/free postage sweetens the deal but more importantly I was watching some youtube videos of these today and they came off very good. Add in the fact that you've held off from buying for a good while so you've given this a lot of thought. Reward yourself my friend and lets hope yours is like the rest ie no real issues KB
  4. Thanks Subbeh. I always thought if I was gettin a Mockingbird it would be a Plus model with the bolt on neck. This has turned out too be a good buy.
  5. Here's my Peavey B-90 [attachment=177421:Peavey B 90 (2).jpg]
  6. Years back I'd sometimes see these strange shaped guitars an basses and was never sure who made them. Then the hair metal thing happened and there was no escaping BC Rich designs. I'd always liked the Mockingbird over the Bich or Warlock models but never really thought about getting one, would be nice though. So start of the week finds me in Doncaster working and Gumtree tells me there's a Mockingbird for sale in Edinburgh for £200 . Not a hope in hell I think, but on the off chance I text the fella last night while travelling back and he still had it By 1.15pm I was the owner of a Heritage Classic in great nick ,his Ironbird was played to hell as is only right for a rock warrior type bass. Anyway here's my 1st impressions. Strap button needs moving to heel of neck to fix the neck dive,Thunderbirds are nothing compared to this. Right solid build on this one and a good quality finish.Looks damn fine. Playing-wise the neck's wider than on my later Peaveys but that just means I have to play it more till I get used to it.Quiet pots and quite a growl with the twin pups. Think I could get well used to this one. Definitely worth £200 [attachment=177418:Mockingbird (2).jpg][attachment=177419:Mockingbird (1).jpg] Of course it would be a post from me without a Peavey, this arrived the night before I left for Doncaster. Gonna put it through it's paces tomorrow and post more. Peavey G bass [attachment=177420:G Bass (1).jpg]
  7. That's good news Jewey. I'm still not 100% sure why mines was a decko either. Fantastic deal you got yourself there, congratulations.
  8. I've a Neo. Great looking finish, sunburst spalted, balances well. Its a Korean made model and has no issues. Strung with RS Nexus it sounds good. I've heard there were some problems with the early Chinese models but that should be sort by now.
  9. FEND3R got in touch with me regarding his Peavey bass as he saw I was interested in Peaveys. Plenty pictures and updates were given and the goods arrived in jig time well packed. All in all a great purchase and I'd have no problem dealing with him in future. Cheers FEND3R now I just have to build the bass
  10. I own 3 HB,never had any problems with any of them. Damn good value and good basses.
  11. I've a white Evo and the red Zygote and if it's like them well you can expect a very lightweight bass. Fit and finish was good and both mines had gloss necks, came with a good set up too. Those pickups Dave uses are Loud, took me by surprise. Dave also has his return policy if you're not happy and an all round top bloke, emailed me a while back with the heads up on a bass I was after. Drop him a line.
  12. Think my P-bass copy was Japanese, played great. Your second bass, I'm squinting my eyes does that read Ibanez ? The through neck Cort built Kay is a totally different animal to the thing I had. No question about that.
  13. AT I think even Paul would've had trouble with my one. The plywood body was the same one they used for the guitar version and I mean plywood that you build packing cases and sheds out of and same pickup as well. Honestly it was terrible and on the strength of that I never went near a Kay again. I actually destroyed that bass and that was unheard of as money was tight back then, had me wishing I'd still got the hollow body with the nailed on pickup and no pegs on the machineheads so I tuned using a pair of pliers I know it was the very entry level but round our way everyone loathed Kays and dreamed of owning a Satellite instead. Thankfully the Organ shop in town had their own brand P bass, was 3 times the cost of the Kay and weighed around 14lbs, or I'd have given up.Man I wished I'd never sold that bass. Did anyone ever buy a Thomson P bass copy from either Nottinghill or Camden Music Exchange around 1989? was strung with RS nylon flats. I want her back
  14. I bought a set of Rotosound Drop Zone Plus 66lh+ 85-175 F#. Haven't got round to trying them though. Think they cost about £24 and scary thick.
  15. I remember Satellite LP copies with " powered by DiMarzio " on the scratchplate in the 80's and a very decent Sunn Mustang with them too. Still can't believe anything with the Kay name could be playable. My psyche is scarred by the EB100 bought from the catalogue [attachment=175454:Kay EB100.jpg]
  16. Was it not Hondo who put DiMarzios their basses as standard. I know they did one in a similar shape then moved to Korea and got Samick to build them.
  17. The pictures they show are the "D" they stamp on them for decoration. My Jazz bass has one on the body and one on the neck, must be a measure to stop folk pulling a fast one and swapping bits then selling them as B-stock. They do seem cheap compared to Gear4Music and in better shape too. Still fingers crossed jewey
  18. That is going to be amazing when finished. Hell it looks amazing just now.
  19. I bought a Jazz 75 a while back and the only fault was a few sharp frets. Maybe because of this it's not "Playable out the Box" so because it needed a little work they can't sell it as an instrument.I think the definition is " Fit for Purpose " Don't know how you would return something not fit to hang on the wall though, maybe the marked ones sell as B-stock and the ones with QC faults go as decoration only. Would that cover them regards the return policy AT ? Oh Jewey hope yours arrives in good nick and just needs a wee tweek
  20. I like it. The Curbow I have has it so It wasn't a surprise. I don't really concern myself about those kinds of things, After most of the crap I've played over the years a hard-wearing fret board is a bonus. The selling points for me were mainly it hit a lot of things I like. Natural finish and thru neck being the 1 st. Balance was important and it hangs well, not overly heavy sure there's lighter basses but I wouldn't use my 28" Mikro to gig with.I'm also about 50/50 with satin and gloss necks so again that wasn't a problem. The EQ works well and is quiet with good range of tones. With the other HB's being well built I was confident this one would be the same and It was.Any small marks in the finish wouldn't bother me but I never found any. Then there was the price,it's an awful lot of bass and thankfully I never had any set up issues.Had to file the nut on the Cirrus not on the BZ. Though I leaning heavy towards the Peaveys just now the BZ really is a fine bass. The last few Peaveys are more P basses so that's the tone for me just now but the BZ and the Grind are always close to hand. Think that about covers it but ask away anything that comes to mind. Great band BTW and what a busy 2015 you have ahead. Hopefully I'll make the O2 in Glasgow.
  21. Sure thing sprocketflup. It does from the 3rd to the 24th. Have it in front of me right now so a good time for any questions.
  22. There's enough of us up here Cammy with them. Shouldn't be a problem trying one.
  23. Pete that's a cracker. Real shame about the G bass V but if you got the refund no harm done and it let you get the Millennium. I can't quite get my head around Peavey UK's pricing unless they're thinking like a certain other company " It's MIA let's add another £500 ". My 5 Peavey MIA's didn't cost more than £600 when totaled. The B-Ninety was $66,the Peavey case it shipped in should have cost more than that.If they halved their prices it might be a different story. No AT I'm not bidding on the T 40. FEND3R contacted me a while back about his bass and I was interested so I was committed when the T 40 came up for auction.that and after the last fiasco with couriers I'd need to travel to Chelmsford. Be interesting to see what it goes for though.
  24. Good to hear that Pete Partial to the Millennium necks myself. I wonder what you'd make of the G bass? the necks were made by Modulus. Where'd you find the Millennium ? Is there's a secret stash up here
  25. You sure it's not a Milestone III ? If it is be careful that bass was the start of Peaveys taking over my house. Great wee bass, can't recommend any mods though, I've still to change the strings.
