  1. Did anybody notice this one appearing ? http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_tb_70vs.htm Set Mahogany neck and Mahogany body for £114. Says it's active but no mention of pre-amp. What'd you think folks has Thomann a hot seller ?
  2. This wasn't supposed to arrive till next week when I away for 2 weeks working. Today it's a T-20 that's crossed the Atlantic. I was outbid on about 3 Peavey with Super Ferrites so looked to America to have more luck. And I certainly have with the Patriot on Thursday and this T-20 today. Bought from used car parts seller in Tennessee just 8 days ago.The seller was great and stuck it in a hard case for free because he was concerned about the 5000 miles it had to travel. He told me this after it had shipped so Top Marks to 101 Auto Sales LLC. Out the box all it needs is a new set of strings so might go with Elites or Tapewounds. There are no neck bow issues like the Patriot and the intonation is bang on so I reckon it's been played recently whereas I suspect the Patriot had been overlooked for something shiny and 5 times the price So I leave you with a couple of photos while I get some playing time under the belt. 3. Another Falkirk man and one with outstanding taste too. I measured my Foundation then 3 Millennium necks using the 1st ruler that was at hand and get 62mm at the neck pocket and 61mm on the necks. But I'm a joiner and don't believe 1mm is a size Metal ruler, pocket cut 20 years ago and necks all done at different times I'd be surprised if there wasn't 1mm. It'll drop in no bother. The pockets on both my Foundations are bigger than the necks so dinnae concern yoursel too much. The Foundation on ebay is at £161 just now so you've saved £80. Result.
  4. Hi AT The weeman deserves the Whiskas, he stuck around through some right tough times. I'd been holding off mentioning this one but it's done. A few weeks back I bought a Zodiac DE body from Thunderbird with the idea of stealing the neck from the Zodiac EX and using Entwistle pickups. Well that idea didn't work the EX was 20 frets and the DE is 21, so on Wednesday I was going to move the bridge but the Patriot was in My Hermes limbo and I was a bit stressed. That's when Peavey UK put some Millennium necks on ebay. Problem solved but it wasn't due till Tuesday and I'm off to England that day.Amazing service from Peavey it arrived today along with the Entwistles so Top Marks to both for really fast delivery. So tonight another Peavey was born. Westone tuners,Millennium neck,Zodiac DE body,Entwistle XBN pickups, old BBOT bridge and Nexus strings. [attachment=173435:Zodiac DE (5).jpg] Crap photo I've no idea how to snap a Gloss Black and Chrome body indoors using a £5 camera Thanks for the congrats. The neck's a wee bit better today but she's 29 years old and just travelled 5000 miles so wee adjustments over time are the plan. There's something on the way that I'm quite excited about but I'm saying nothing till it's here.
  5. After a hell of a last few years that ended with the bank taking everything including the house I had a change in thinking and with the family gone and no creditors me and the cat had a fresh start. He eats Whiskas and I indulge in basses. And those basses are increasingly Peaveys. Having heard about the Super Ferrite pickups but not trying them it was time to look for one. This 85 Patriot arrived from Minnesota today.1st time buying from the States had me nervous as hell and the ebay global shipping agent using My Hermes didn't help, but it's here with no real problems. [attachment=173360:Patriot (2).jpg] I expected dings and scratches on a nearly 30 year old bass and I got them but if it was mint I'd wonder what was up with it and why it was never played.Out the box the 1st thing I notice was the strings were a mile high due to the truss rod needing adjusted, whether it's the change in climate or the previous owner not knowing how to do it I can't say. It's light enough for me at 10lbs and when the neck settles down it'll really be a joy to play. The necks quite wide 44mm at the nut but the profile is shallow enough it feels really comfortable It's tuned BEAD just now because I don't want too much tension on the neck. Even with the old dead strings this thing has presence, the P bass on steroids claim has some truth. It worked out £190 with the postage and tax etc and I'll be honest there's a lot of good used basses to be had for that kind of money but I don't feel robbed. I've concerns about the neck bow as I've no idea how long it's been like that, only time will tell.
  6. Before these get taken to the dump I've 6 guitar boxes up for grabs if anyone needs them. Falkirk,Central Scotland. Need to be picked up I'm afraid
  7. Hope it's an easy one too Dunc The Westone Thunders always sounded great when Henry Thomas was playing them. Gotta say I like the noise I get from my old Concord and the short scale Thunder I threw together. I'm sure it'll be a doddle to fix and it'll be playing in jig time.
  8. I've noticed quite a few Bentons being split. There's 3 jazz necks and 4 bodys for sale on ebay.de just now
  9. Cheeky. Black sparkle doesn't bother me. Collection only and 1st time seller do. After the last fiasco with organising a courier I haven't the guts to even ask the seller. From what I can gather and from a biased point of view. Damn Fine Bass. If there was a courier I'd go for it. Yeah no surprises there. But here's why " Poor man'Modulus" carbon fibre neck,35" scale through slightly different fret spacing and moving the bridge not sticking a massive neck on it. Cirrus/Millennium pre-amp and VFL pickup. Why 4 knobs for a humbucker ? What magic has Peavey done ? Damn I just asked the question. Black sparkle who cares After reining in my imagination while trying to get some kip Volume,Bass,Mid and Treble is of course the answer Made nearly £200 which is an good price. How much does a carbon-fibre neck cost these days ?
  10. Does mess with the eyes a bit. Can't say it's a bad price though, cheaper than some Fenders and probably a damn sight better. The back of the neck looks fantastic.
  11. Neck looks great but the Westone body looks better. Many goodies hiding under that minty green freshness. All in all though it looks great and I'll bet plays and sounds it too. Cracking job.
  12. Definitely looks the same as mines AT
  13. Happy Jack it shouldn't be that heavy, probably around 10 lbs same as the Foundation 5s. Had another look at it though and not for me.Real problem is it's not a Dyna bass or a Unity. It's a International so made in Korea, the newer models have " Handcrafted in Indonesia " on the back of the headstock which doesn't have. It plainly states it's an International whereas Dyna basses will have " Made in America " on the headstock. You'd be better off looking for a Millennium AC 5 string at that price point. Nice bass but kinda over-priced,my International 4 string was £65. AT I'm on to the subs now well I will be by the end of the month, there's a T-20 and a Patriot on the way from the State but I've not fitted the pickups to the Zodiac DE yet so no photos or thoughts till that's done.
  14. Oh I'm keeping an eye on it but fives ain't really my thing either. Meanwhile there's a whole lot of Peavey goodness on the way to the blair's den
  15. 414 is the one I had in mind Beer. Just erring on the side of caution though so I didn't link it either. Pretty certain that certain manufacturer is aware of it but it must be kosher or it wouldn't be for sale.
  16. I've seen and heard dobro or resonator guitars before just never a bass one. Nothing unusual in that only found out what a saxo bajo was a few months back.
  17. Saw them a couple of weeks back. Like most things I've no idea what it's used for I know the bass that can't be mentioned AT. One will be ordered this week, must be about the only style of bass I haven't tried
  18. I wondered about that. Never saw that it'd been sold though just thought it was relisted at the BIN price. Out and out fake.
  19. Was the highest bidder till 5 seconds to go. While frantically trying to up my max again it ended. Not taking that chance again so I ordered a T 20 from the States. Methinks the days of mega cheap USA Peaveys are numbered. Still cheap though, did a search to see what was available for the cost of the T 20 + shipping, no brainer 30 year old Peavey against entry level Squier,Corts and Ibanez. Pictures when it gets here.
  20. Paul's Peavey Zodiac DE body just arrived. Absolutely mint as described. Top man to deal with. Thanks Paul.
  21. That Thunder is nice, 9 bids and 6 days to go, can see that doubling at least.
  22. Finally got round to posting a photo. But there's another 2 on the way. [attachment=172938:Pride of Peaveys (1).jpg]
  23. Have you tried plucking with the pad of your thumb. Now that's Old School Monk Montgomery style. 30 years of chapping nails in and busting fingers has left my hands kinda beat up so when the knuckles tighten up I just pluck with my thumb. Like the others have said there's no rules set in stone.
  24. Best reason I ever heard Mornats Mines is from 88 also in pearl white. Would never part with it,got it here as I type. Great basses back then, great basses still.
