1. The bloke from Death From Above 1979 talks Dan Armstrong plexiglass bass in this https://youtu.be/AFIt0pNPjmY
2. It's showing as available in February. I'm guessing those will be the first run. I'm very interested in this, as the OP says, the fixed bridge may be a huge improvement on the Fender VI.
3.
Does it suffer from neck-dive? It looks as if it should
It should, and it does. But I dont mind a bit of neck-dive, I just don't let go of it. One of the unexpected pluses of the bass is that, because of the top horn, when playing sitting down it sits very nicely.
4.
This doesn't worry me nearly as much as I thought it would. I bet if you get a scratch plate without the holes for the pots it would look kinda stylish! No getting to the upper frets, though.
I do plan on getting a new scratch plate (in tort, so I have the same black/tort scheme as my 'proper' P bass) so I might do that.
Why on earth would I want to play the upper frets? 😂😂 Seriously though, the access is similar to a Thunderbird, and (some) people don't mind them.
6. I thought I'd share a pic of my back up bass, if only to the incite some caustic reactions It's a left handed body (a Hondo, I think) with a nice Squier VM Tele Bass neck, all set up to play right handed. The pickups are wired straight to jack, which has been relocated to a position 'under' the strap button. Yes, it makes no sense to have done this, but it's fun. 7. Thanks for the replies. A quick Google search reveals they are even uglier in colour. This one looks like it has a few cosmetic differences (such a pickguard/s) to Jet's.
8. Can anyone identify the bass Jet Harris is playing here? It looks like a prop from Star Trek...
9. I bought a copy in early December but give it to my wife to wrap for me a Christmas prezzie. Having spent the last few days dipping into it, I must say this is a quality book and one I highly recommend.
10. Great song, and the production of that recording is perfect. One of few the claims to fame my town (Ulverston, Cumbria) has, is that Bill Haley's mother was born and grew up here before emigrating to the USA.
11. The vocals in the chorus of Beyonce's Crazy In Love. Some would call it "feel", I call it off the beat.
12. Ordered! I'm looking forward to receiving it.
13. The bassist out of Teleman played a white model of these on Jools Holland last Friday. It looks like he had it selected on P pickup only. Sounded good.
14. Thanks for all the responses so far, keep them coming. 😃
Well, the two instrumental bands I was in never really set out to make any money, so I can't offer much advice really. I did see a superb surf instrumental band once who had a theremin in a pineapple ice caddy, which was a great stage prop, and acted as a focus for some on-stage fun, so maybe something to act as a focus might help.
We're not setting out to make any money either, it's just a fun side project with (probably) a high concept. Funnily enough, we do have a theremin on hand!
15. Hi I'm on the process of putting together a side project of an instrumental only band. Line up will consist of bass, drums, guitar (and occasional organ) and possibly a second guitar. We're thinking of doing tracks like Miserlou, Green Onions, Rumble, Cissy Strut, and stuff that's Shadowy and Surfish. First question - does anyone have any experience of gigging this type of thing in pub and small venue environments? I have concerns that punters won't be too keen on a set full of vocal-free tracks. Any advice or general comments are welcomed. Second question - any setlist suggestions? Cheers, James
16. Hi Does anyone know where I can order a single La Bella string (it's a .056 flatwound for Hofner Beatle Bass). I've, rather frustratingly, just snapped one off a fairly new set. It's only my second snapped bass string in almost 27 years though! James
17. I think I like it. It's looks bit like a 70s catalogue bass, especially the headstock.
18. Squierrels cam be as good as Fenderels these day.
19. Got mine today. £2 well spent.
20.
Is that fretless?
That one is. Most of them aren't 😃
21. A good compromise between getting the violin bass sound and not looking like a tribute act is the Hofner Club (500/2). I have one of the HCT models and it a good bass. They are fully hollow body, with no "tone block" so you do get the more vintage Hofner thud.
22. Has anyone tried an Ammoon bass? They seem to be available new at ridiculously low prices (I've seen a Jazz-style on evil bay for under £50, inc post!).
23. Ordered. Good shout - thanks
24.
page size: 225 x 300 mm
If it's possible to resize you might get more competitive printing the more common 210 x 297 mm size?
25.
The price is based on 500 book printed. Although I am not sure how on earth I am going to sell 500 copies ;-) Printing costs are still quite high. Even with my vast network of good offset printers that I've gathered over the past 20 years as a professional graphic designer... I do appreciate the input guys!
Good luck with this, however you choose to proceed. It deserves to be a success. Out of interest, what's the page size?
