I have one if these as well. The knee pad and the external pick up alone are £300 worth.
A lot more transportable than the real thing, even without breaking it down.
Easier to play live (no feedback) and record from my experience.
Definitely worth a punt if you’re considering DB.
I’m currently awaiting my SWB-1 and looking forward to it. But I’m going to be wanting a B-G 5 string (still short scale) if I get on with it.
Hope that will be an option!!
This just arrived after a six month wait and after a little adjustment seems rather nice.
Anderton’s website indicates they got 2 in, so if yer quick 😉
I have purchased the first one and just tried a 5er and my double bass through it with a TC RH450. At £300 this is a fantastic piece of kit.
The purchase was as smooth as could be as well.
A rather nerdy exercise this morning for myself as GAS issues being experienced.
Thought I'd save the result here in case it's useful for anyone else.
Aimed to get the nut and the bridge at the same level, end line is Series 2 (and GA) body end.
Series 2 is at more of an angle in the image, so would be slightly wider ....
Has anyone come across 5 string laminated basses?
I’m considering going for a 5er but don’t want to throw big money at it until I’ve tried one for a while.
Thx
I had this issue previously with a new bridge. It means you need to get the bridge fitted to the bass front more closely. You could try this yourself with fine sandpaper if you’re brave. There are several YouTube videos on the topic.
The strings you are fitting might be higher tension if you’re fitting a new set.
Good luck
I’ll be honest, I haven’t read this entire thread.
But if you’re looking to spend ~£1k and find the more expensive EUBs out of reach, do consider buying an actual double bass.
You’ll get a good second hand laminated bass or even solid wood example at that level.
You’ll learn far more in terms of technique using the real thing.
Good luck....
I recently picked up a Cort C5.
Narrow/flat neck, 3 band eq and very light.
Would be a good intro 5er.
Cort make a lot of the Ibanez and Squire basses I believe.
