The only way you'll increase the tension on the B is either go to a heavier gauge or find a set known to feel tighter (reduced compliance). Or try flats

Laptops can be quite noisy in electrical terms and you'll probably have a better analogue to digital converter with an outboard unit connecting via USB as you've mentioned. The line-out signal from the mixer is probably too high for the mic-in on the laptop.

I've got a 5 string early version of one of these; make sure you explore the 2 trim pots visible through the back control plate for slap depth and gain - these determine how much of the mids get cut when you engage the slap switch (the bass and treble get boosted too). I ended up raising the neck on mine by 1/16" (with a full neck pocket shim) to get the saddles down to where I wanted them... you'll probably find you can get the neck pretty flat with minimal fret buzz. Have fun!

My oldest cable (and still good after 35 years) is a coiled one, has a right-angled jack on one end so tend to use it for my recently acquired P bass.

The fanned fret system (such as with a Dingwall) is how to create more tension where the longer scale length does offer a tighter low B. I had to take a few millimetres off the B string adjustment screw on my Curbow 5 because I couldn't achieve perfect intonation for it (the saddle was as far back as possible and of a design where the screw went into, not through the saddle).

I've never really got that far into slap technique but thumb parallel with the string is how I've always approached it and it's a process of rotating the wrist to get a slap/pop effect for me.

I don't have a rack and have never used one personally but I was heavily involved with a music collective that had gear racked in a flightcase cabinet which helped when we had gigs away from our usual venue; great for keeping everything tidy but it was pretty weighty; we didn't have any issues with ground hum loops or noise though this can sometimes happen.

I doubt you'll see much difference in terms of compliance because the string is effectively fixed at the saddle and nut (which define the string's speaking-length).

There's a lot of love for Squier basses too, in particular the Classic Vibe and Vintage Modified series for both Precisions and Jazz basses (and there's also the Active Deluxe with the Jazz) and ought to be on your list, particularly if you can try both Squier and Fender instruments side by side (some people here have tried both in a shop and chosen the Squier over a Fender). EDIT: Just spotted you list a Squier in your signature - you know what I'm talking about then LOL

This has never happened to me but I have heard of saddle adjustment height screws slowly shifting and apparently the trick is to put a drop of clear nail varnish/clear car lacquer onto/into the screw once you've set the height (locks it into place but not so tight that you couldn't break the seal for future adjustments).

They must have had an amp there with a headphone out socket surely? Sounds like they couldn't be arsed and I'm not surprised you were disappointed!
