Very nicely done - it's like a thumb bass for people that like traditional shapes.
-
It happens on here too, it seems people generally don't understand the meaning of depreciation. I just let them get on with it; it doesn't harm me if someone's holding on wanting too much for something - I just say I can't afford it & we both move on our merry way.

Congratulations, looks legit to me. He's a Marketing Coordinator at Fender, you went to a Fender event & presumably entered a completion to in a Fender.

Headless basses are the ultimate in cool, the only suggestion I would make is that I think you can come up with a better body shape than that - but then I like curves so each to their own. Good luck with it.

Hot Moth...a live video of our song called "Rhino"

This is cool - I like the track on your video! -
I just wanted to point out that my thread title was ironic. There is nothing wrong with the production values of modern pop music. I just wanted to register how hard it is for the little guy to keep up with the technology used in producing it.
Although a lot of new music & sounds, especially in the electronic music area, is being produced by people with no budget in their bedrooms on a laptop. I remember having a big office discussion/argument a few years ago about whether we should be listening to music on crappy iphone headphones rather than the pro audio equipment we had in the office. The logic behind it was questioning whether we should be trying to hear the music exactly how the artist was creating it & how they were hearing it rather than using expensive equipment that common practice would have us use.
-
I don't think there's any new information in the video but I suppose it might spell things out for some people. Once your equipment is up to basic audio standards & allows you to hear yourself whilst playing, buying anything else is just to make yourself feel better & massage your ego a bit.

I like that the conclusion was found nice & quickly; there's nothing wrong with modern music, things just don't sound great if you're using the wrong tools & not enough preperation for the job. If someone wants to do a like for like reproduction of Uptown Funk they should take their computer down to the venue and ask for the punters to wait while they click in the bass line, add a load of filters/octaves/effects/other general VST stuff then click play after a few days of faffing about. Maybe not what the audience came to see but certainly closer to its creation. For me the art-form in that song is the song writing & managing to get a computer to sound like that, not the playing of instruments.

And this is why I don't play in a covers band; for me there's just nothing inspiring in playing other peoples songs - yes it's a quick route to getting out there & playing gigs/earning a bit of money but it never left me feeling particularly fulfilled. Originals bands are less likely to pay well, offer more band conflict areas & are generally a pain but there is something very enjoyable about going out there, performing your own songs & seeing how people respond to them. Even if that response is for the three members of the audience to go outside for a cigarette.

My rock/metal band Versus Ursus have got a couple of new tracks available - we're slowly working towards getting an album done but as we had these ones finished we thought we'd better get them out there for people to listen to as our sound has changed from the previous album (due to line-up changes) - interested to hear what people think... Last night was probably my sweatiest ever gig; seriously muggy evening in a sticky old pub in Reading with my rock band Versus Ursus. Zero air moving through the place & lot's of bodies jumping around - the walls were dripping. Very fun evening though & even sold some of our garish tie-die t-shirts!

Played an acoustic set with my drummer-less pop/rock band last night in Clapham; it was one of those random multi-band things & our set got cut short because of lateness/over running (of other people) but in general I think it went as well as could have been expected. It's one of those bars where everyone's just there to get p!ssed & it just happens that there's music on too but the crowd did actually show some appreciation which was nice & a couple of the other acts were really, really good. I was the only bassist playing all evening which was interesting as it made our sound substantially different to everyone else's!

Looking for some good simple recording software
Lw. replied to Naetharu's topic in General Discussion
I use Reaper for anything more than quickly checking a line or riff works (which is the limit of audacity for me) - Reaper is super easy to use & just as powerful as the famous paid for DAWs I've used. -
Our band's, Killing Vegas, new EP out now! Have a listen, please.

Quite liked that - well done, sounding good. -
Have you raised the question with the singer? They may be up for it - it's hard to tell with the guitarists explanation as to why that would be a bad idea. In terms of storage, why doesn't the band all chip in for a storage box (big yellow shed etc.. I wouldn't leave guitars in one though) somewhere?

You don't have to say how much (if any) exercise you do but I found (on top of what has previously been suggested in this thread) doing a bit of weights (with proper form of course) really helped me. I used to be struggling a bit at the end of a three hour rehearsal session but now I hardly feel the weight of the bass at all - having slightly stronger muscles really help with posture away from the bass too. Doesn't need to be anything too strenuous/heavy but doing a few of the big compound movements (squats, bench, shoulder press, careful deadlifts etc...) has really helped me.

Bass and it's impact on the daily grind - Discuss
Lw. replied to grumpyguts's topic in General Discussion
Work can be annoying sometimes but I find I do a lot of the band admin while at work; booking gigs, organising calendars, balancing the finances etc... I had to draw the line at clicking in the drums on demo ideas though as I find midi drumming a pain at the best of times & constant frustrated mumblings about my "work" wasn't going down well in the office! -
Fretless electro-acoustic - It'll look the part with the acoustic guitars & you can send it through a discreet DI/EQ for the audience.
-
Yes, chunkier (and wider) necks - felt really good when I tried one. Pickup was fine on the one I tried - it had the great full p tone. If I was in the market for a p I'd get one of these & change the pick guard to a plastic one.
-
Oh dear, all this boring morality talk has upset the OP (I don't blame him, it was quite tedious). Let us know how you get on at bass gear; I really like the look of the Monarch Standard 4 PJ they've got, ying yang without the paint job.
-
Nice - probably the only Warwick that looks good with a pickguard IMO.

I wonder what the most expensive product someone has returned using distance selling regulations is? I'd love to see the sales manager's face when he gets a Fodera back through the door! Are you sure you want to go down that route? I mean this is a lot of money to spend on a bass, seems like a shame to miss out on the experience of going to the shop, trying things out & falling for the bass before paying out - why not go to a UK retailer & try one?

If I had 4k burning a hole in my pocket I'd find it very hard to look past a custom-shop Warwick Streamer Stage-1 (with a few personalised bits, hence custom) or a Wal. I'm not saying that those are the only options for you but I know I love Warwicks and a custom shop number with my wood choices would be a bass I'd never put down. And Wal is the only other bass brand where I have played one & been blown away with the quality - everything about it was incredible, to the point I was too scared to play it for more than 5 minutes. Saying that I've never played, heard or even seen a Fodera so can't comment on them.
