i have shimmed a nut before with a bit of business card, just cut to size put under the nut and restring. it was only by a small amount and on a cheapo bitsa but i havent noticed any issues with it slipping.
theres probably better ways to do it but it worked for me!
i picked up a diamond Jazz bass for £200 probably the best jazz I've ever played, hipshot hardware (or very good copies) EMG pups and a great preamp. finish and build quality was amazing. but unfortunately i don't really like jazzes so i got rid. really want to try a diamond P bass or Model T. the new model T basses look amazing in my opinion.
I have 2 1x12 focus cabs and i love them, light enough to carry 1 handed and i think they sound great, prefer them over all other cabs I've used (which include trace, TC, Orange, barefaced, ampeg) and they only cost me £100 each!
my college bought a left handed HB Jazz that was one of the first i knew of with the Rosewell PUPS, they seem pretty comparable to the Wilksinson i have in the bridge of a PJ bass. also looking forward to seeing the red version its been teasing on the Thomann website for sometime now! along with a LH PB50.
I've been using a Korg Pitchclip for ages now, small profile does 4 string fine (not tried on 5) its been dropped, bashed about and even sat on and still working fine.

i remember Thomann selling these for an absolute steal a couple of years back, it think the black one was going for about £159 or something. one of the students at my college bought one, felt nice to play but wasn't sold on the tone (but that could of just been how his was dialed in)
most of my bitsas have cheap as possible fender style heads from ebay, they are smaller than the ones i took off a neck and needed the holes re drilling. pretty sure they are smaller than Wilkinson ones. there pretty good for the money, never had a problem with tuning stability and they've taken couple of whacks and still work fine and didn't disintegrate! but do take a while to come through.

just found this, I've always found having effects pedals was just too complicated!?
i always tell my bass playing students if they want a good cheap cab to get one of these and they all ignore me as its a Laney! i'll have to show them this thread!
i used one for band practices at our local rehearsal rooms and thought it was a great cab with my genz 12.2. the owner has since moved it into his studio rooms for bass tracking.
