1. swapped over the necks again - they just seem that little better playing and looking with the "wrong" neck on each. I did this before but reverted them back to how they came thinking I was for moving on the candy apple red/maple one. if they both stay as keepers this is how I'll have them from now on
2. I like the scale length on the 55-01 but whats the string spacing at the bridge?
3. I seen those, some really nice colour options for the SB-2s like metal flakes, burgandy mist and Lake placid blue, there was a Japanese TRibute SB-2 on ebay UK not long ago. The detailing and build quality looked just that bit bit higher than the Korean/Indonesian TRibutes. guess its the same story as the Fender Japan stuff being largely non export ...the quality/price ratio would probably hurt sales of the USA ones for anyone interested, the Japanese made tribute models are halfway down the page http://www.kurosawagakki.com/gl/glbass.html
4.
Nice collection. I never noticed before that the ASAT's have a thinner headstock - I guess this is an attempt to reduce neck dive?
Hi John, yes it is and I like the aesthetics of it...more in keeping with the Telecaster headstock too
That's just plain greedy!!!
The SB-2 above and post xmas/newrdie blues are to blame for my '08 G&L gluttony.I was happy with just my Asat all last year then SB-2 GAS started eating away at me and other guitars started being sold etc....
The SB-2 looks amazing - does it sound as good as it looks??
sure does, with this one having a tone control it can be very mellow or very aggressive.always pretty phat sounding wherever the tone's set. and its got the tightest popping bridge pup sound..I dont think its meant to be solo'd more as a blend for the split P .. I dont have a vol for this pup/continous pan on this bass (3 way switch) but heck,I like it on its own anyway
Sweet basses, I like the slimmer headstocks, the SB-2 has the p bass killer pup too, more growl than the fender, the GAS has started I see...
nig,yes its got me,these are beautiful basses,so much vibe about them.not everyone's cup of char but definetely mine.

apologies for the poor quality of the pics.my camera went back to its proper owner so these are off my Nokia SB-2 emerald blue, birdseye maple/ebony neck,ex BB2000. passive growl and an amazing neck. ASAT bass, metallic gold with front edge binding,ex Geddy's Nose. this bass is just too cool. L-1500 clear forest green,ex stingrayfan. heaviest of the lot but nicely different tone to the two with dual MFD's. Tribute L-2000 Korean model,ex a fella from Paisley called Gerry. maple board and great build quality for silly money tells me its a keeper
6.
Wow That is really nice! How does it sound/feel?
thanks! It sounds the same as my Asat bass with the same pickups and circuit a little more rounded maybe and very quiet with regards to electrical noise etc. Weight wise I must have got a light one,I heard/read some of the ash ones can be quite heavy and with the bit of TLC done on the neck it plays superb and feels broken in and like an old friend already. looking forward to hearing your own impressions on the black/maple when you get it cheers
7. I aquired this Tribute L-2000 last Saturday.these are the seller's pics It's since had a full set up and the fret ends dressed - hopefully next week, time permitting,I'll be changing the stock tuners with a spare set of Schaller BM ones I have lying around and some dunlop straplocks too all in a great piece for what I paid (£235)
8. the gig bags they come with are excellent, really top notch.I was well chuffed with it and just what I needed, too many cases taking up too much space...... and definetely +1 on the black/maple it's timeless. Anyway I hope you're as happy with yours when it arrives as I am with mine cheers
9. I'm almost sure thats my old sunburst USA L2000 and if it is,unless its had a fair bit of work done on it, eg refret, shielding etc then I'd say your Tribby looks the better deal. I just bought a natural/maple TRibute and it can hold its own (apart from minor details) with my Fullerton ones no worries. you still may have paid above the odds though..I got mine for £235 used but I guess that was pretty cheap
10. not for me but I know theres some fans of these on here BC http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Warwick-Vampyre-Limi...1QQcmdZViewItem
11. the seller is David from Reading, a keyboard player who likes Stingrays? edit : I've amended the above with a question mark. my curiosity gets the better of me sometimes
12. It was expensive enough selling a bass on there before, for me this latest hike just makes it a no-no I'll be sticking with ad trader and gumtree from now on
13. in bass mode its fine, forget it with guitar unless you're going to drive the front end of it pretty hard.
14. +1 on the envy green 5 string. Its gorgeous and the other 2 light my fire as well best porn I've seen in a while thanks for sharing
15. thanks for the explanation David. I believe the Pensa-Suhr guitars were made the same way back when they were considered the dogs danglies and Knopfler was playing them. cheers edit : forgot to ask,did you get the mm5 Baritone?
16. are the bodies and necks for both these brands manufactured inhouse from wood blanks? and why are valenti and sadowsky not a fair comparison? if something is a third of a price but can still hold its own then whats wrong with the comparison? sorry I'm a bit ignorant of these brands(hence the questions) but they both do look a bit special amongst the many J clones around.
17.
Similar to our 'bog oaks' here in Lincolnshire..... I bet they could tell a few tales.... "Well the first 15thousand years lying around in a swamp were pretty boring but, next 15 thousnad years whizzed past!"

I much prefer this..... Spector 32K Bass but, hey.... what's 3,000 years between friends
18. lovely collection what does the switch do on the StingRay? and I agree, black blocks and binding on maple is simply inteloreable!
19. Tony, glad to hear you're still lovin the semi-hollow. The first time I gigged it my band leader said he'd never heard so much bottom end grind coming out a bass. and that was after the first few gigs I did with a Bongo.to my mind the Asat/L2K's are all about pure ballsy organic tone .... on a side note I've just bought Stingrayfans trans green L1500 - and looking forward to it joining my G&L harem . for the poster asking about the SB-2, nig or BB2000 would be your best bet for info. the one I got off BB has a 3 way switch and tone control so not your normal SB-2. on the G&L TB and BABP forums the SB-2 is discussed loads.you could maybe do a search there..
20. getting the itch again after my last project finished up at the end of the last summer season. 39 years old with 25 years on bass (20 in working bands) hundreds of gigs experience over the years - soul/funk/pop/rock/oldies and goldies/whatever - as long as the band grooves I'm fairly easy will also take on 6 string duties no probs, just prefer bass and locking in with a drummer dont mind if its midi files/backing tracks but prefer to play in a big band if at all possible sorry no harmonies/backing vox though I can chant a bit lol ctc Keir on 01563-511387 my mail addy is keiry at email dot com
21. I like them a lot. both my G&Ls are 1.5" at the nut.the L2000/L1000 are wider 1.75 at the nut,all 12" radius as standard,L series 4 strings can be ordered with the 1.5 neck too.I think all models come with an optional vintage 7.5" radius fingerboard.I'm not sure about the 5 string necks. the necks on both mine are like jazz bass necks, quite rounded and deep at the back,Asat especially so,the Asat also suffers from a bit of neck dive but I dont even notice it now. they're more fender than musicman neck wise imo The bottom end on G&L's is huge, the cherryburst Asat semi hollow I traded on these boards a few months ago was a bit of a beast in this respect. If tonyF chips in he'll confirm this. other things I like are the saddle lock bridge, active or passive modes, and some really great finishes and options. their other basses are both passive : the SB-2 which is G&L's hot P/J and the JB-2 which is their Jazz bass with 2 alnico single coils (the only bass they do without the MFDs) I miss that semi-hollow
22. I wouldnt, but as said previous,if you're not getting on with it why keep it? strange youre not finding a sound you like out the G&L. is it too toppy sounding? do you have the treble boost on all the time?. if you havent tried already, run it in passive mode a while and back off the volume a bit.the MFD pups are fairly hot,but its more organic, woody and warm sounding with the preamp off imo.
23. 2 Belcat pedals - chorus and analogue delay - both boxed and in mint condtion with less than an hours use each 25 quid the pair plus a fiver recorded delivery via Royal Mail only got a pic of the chorus..wasnt going to sell the delay but no point keeping it http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews...304+Chorus/10/1 http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews...-303+Delay/10/1 paypal or cheque fine
