I played with Andy James for many years - those brutal, fast and accurate riffs in drop C# were do-able in standard but much easier in drop tuning.

The drop tuning strings I mentioned went straight on my PJ and I didn't need to adjust the nut or action. I may have checked the intonation but I don't think I changed it.

I've used them on album work and have had no problems with tension.. because this type of tuning is exactly why Balanced Tension sets matter.

Genuinely, no word of a lie, I haven't snapped a string in 20 years. Common causes include a sharp rasp or mishapen bridge saddle slot. You may need to file it smooth if it has 'teeth' in it; grooves made string wear. Or, of course, a look at the way you are pulling strings? I mean that to help and not to be critical of the way you play, I hope it helps

I think Join My Band is the problem there, not you! One of my bass students is in his 70's and another lovely chap I taught was in his 60's - No way is there even a scrap heap! Just got to find the people to play with through a different route. The first proper band I played in, I was about 14 and the rest of the band were all 40+. We had such great fun, so it's not as if you should be confined to playing with just the 50+ers either. Good luck!

I see no cons whatsoever. Yeah, really nice. In fact, D'Addario make such a wide range of superb strings, I sometimes struggle to decide which ones I want to try next heh!! Right now I have the new NYXL's on a PJ bass, ProSteels on my 6 string bass, NYXL coated on my electric guitars, 80/20's on my acoustic and balanced tension on my P!
