1. Bought from Dan and a smooth transaction it was too! Great chatting and yes, the pedal is sounding great, thanks!
 2.
I'd get a Dean Edge. At the budget end, it's the best one. If Dood is talking about the Spector 8 string that they had at the recent bass show, I'd avoid. The neck profile is wrong as its just a thin C neck with 8 strings. At 1.65 inch at the nut your hand will bunch up. Lastly, the active eq I found to be lacking. Okay, it was only £400 or so, but it was still just a 4 string neck with 8 strings and more than a tad pants. I say that and I like Spectors. If you were really wanting a conversion, get the neck from warmoth and Schaller 471 bridge. Job done.
I'd disagree - I have massive hands and found that playability wasn't a problem, even though I have never played an 8 string in anger. I had more problems with my picking hand, none with my left. But hey, everyone is different and that's fine with me.
 3.
I didn't know Spector did an eight string. Looks pretty. Where's the review? Any idea of UK price/availability?
I've just completed the review video so it will be in a future issue of the magazine and a link will appear in my thread in my signature too. I'm not sure of the pricing off hand! I thought I had written it down. As for availability, the Spector Uk distributor is brilliant so I would expect the model to be available at the usual outlets.
 4. Hi - it is the MS50G guitar version yup (The bass version is MS60B)
 5.
http://www.eminence....eaker-break-in/
Cheers Bill
 6. As I understand it, when a speaker 'breaks in', it is the edge of the cone (the bit connected to the frame that flexes) essentially becoming less stiff and more pliable. This allows the cone to move more freely back and forth tracking the incoming signal. The results being as noticed.
 7.
Dood Did you ever do sound clips of you dingmod?
Yes, but I've no idea what I have done with them! - I can do some more, or I can pull up some of my review videos with the bass possibly! I'll have a look!
 8.
Think I'll order some and see what they're like . Will have to see if they can handle multiple tuning up and down throughout a set - some strings go dead quickly doing that . Cheers for that mate- I'll give 'em a go
Pulling them up to standard tuning, yes they will feel more taught than a standard set, yup that goes without saying
 9. Just reviewed Spector's Legend Classic 8 - that's a nice bass that should be on your shopping list!
 10. Last bump for this one before I pack it away.
 11. Well they are designed so that if you drop C (CGCF) they will still have a decent tension to feel like a standard tuned balanced set
 12.
Sometimes you need those "unconventionally tuned" open strings in order to be able to play the bass lines.
That's very true. I played with Andy James for many years - those brutal, fast and accurate riffs in drop C# were do-able in standard but much easier in drop tuning.
 13. The drop tuning strings I mentioned went straight on my PJ and I didn't need to adjust the nut or action. I may have checked the intonation but I don't think I changed it.
 14. Absolutely use this set for Drop C and Drop C# http://www.daddario.com/DADProductDetail.Page?ActiveID=3769&productid=380&productname=EXL160BT_Nickel_Wound__Balanced_Tension_Medium__50_120&sid=82837d8d-863c-4168-8e34-e84677425f6d They are dead easy to get hold of and sound great. I've used them on album work and have had no problems with tension.. because this type of tuning is exactly why Balanced Tension sets matter.
 15. Hopefully a second hander will come up soon!
 16.
Just bought the eventide................ its pretty cool.

Ohhhhhhh FEK...... it is a beast....... i wanted different and I got it. Thanks so much for the recommendations, its the shidt!
No problem! Happy to help I love bass gear massively and I am lucky to do a job that means I get to 'study' it often!
 17. Still here - grab a bargain!
 18.
For £180 you could struggle to buy 2x MM pups for that! Have a bump
Indeed! Thank you - and here's another bump! Lets see if we can find this beauty a new home by the end of the week
 19. Not bad actually, but don't expect a 2x8" to keep up with a loud drummer. That said, low end projection can certainly be increased by use of an extension cabinet as the combo has a socket for such.
 20.
I want to know the options really When I was gigging a lot (about 10 years ago) I was using Elites 5 string sets plus matching high Cs, and these were OK but died quite quickly. I also went through a phase of Elixers but I hated the way the plastic came off, although I gather they've solved this problem in the mean time? The Newtone set I'm on about was very heavy, I think .145 on the B and .40 on the C, and they were great and lasted ages. They cost me about £65 though In the last 12 months I've tried Pro Steels which were 0.32 to 0.130. The high C snapped on the first or second "pop" (I'm quite an aggressive player) but other than this they're OK. The low B is nowhere near as good as the Newtone though I don't know if this is down to the gauge or the construction. I also had some Warwick Red Label and snapped the high C within a minute and the low B within a day Basically I'm on a very tight budget so it'd be good to be able to compare lots of different 6 string sets by price and figure out what I can afford
On a side note, if you keep snapping high strings, it may not be the string at fault. Genuinely, no word of a lie, I haven't snapped a string in 20 years. Common causes include a sharp rasp or mishapen bridge saddle slot. You may need to file it smooth if it has 'teeth' in it; grooves made string wear. Or, of course, a look at the way you are pulling strings? I mean that to help and not to be critical of the way you play, I hope it helps
 21.
Thanks for the lovely chap reference, but I'm in my 50's! (Hi Dan, best wishes to you and yours.)
Ahhh ha ha!!!! In that case, I will add to my post "and one super bass player who was in his 50's too"!! You are of course a lovely chap too!
 22. I think Join My Band is the problem there, not you! One of my bass students is in his 70's and another lovely chap I taught was in his 60's - No way is there even a scrap heap! Just got to find the people to play with through a different route. The first proper band I played in, I was about 14 and the rest of the band were all 40+. We had such great fun, so it's not as if you should be confined to playing with just the 50+ers either. Good luck!
 23.
I've used my CM-2 in a loop with an LS-2 and it sounds fine.
`Excellent, thank you.
