IIRC that gives a 12dB/octave rolloff for both HPF and LPF - you can simply cascade two identical filters to give a 24dB/octave roll-off which might be better, at least for the HPF if you're looking at thump elimination.
Maybe that sort of Thumpinator roll off would be beneficial, though for my useage I'd be looking at winding that filer point all the way up to around 300hz - But I don't want to build anything until I've tested the theory!
2. I recall seeing a post on a P.A related forum where users posted the gut shots of their power amplifiers. Maybe you've planted the seeds for a very interesting thread that quite literally lifts the lid on manufacturers designs. Open up and say "aaaaaaah", the Doctor is ready for his next patient!
Apologies for the rushed nature of this - just hacked a few old schematics I had together to give you the gist of the thing... The 11k+Vr2 and 5.6k+Vr1 are a standard resistor in series (therefore setting the minimum value) with one half of a ganged/stereo pot as each filter needs 2 values to be changed equally at the same time. Just need to tack a volume control on the end somewhere to cut the added volume down. Or not if you've got something appropriate next in the chain to do it for you. Edit: Oh and the Broughton just uses a TL074 quad opamp.
Yup, I understand that! Brilliant! Thank you! In comparison, here's the Rolls Crossover offering HPF, LPF and about 20dB gain boost as I understand it. http://www.rolls.com/pdf/IS_SX21.pdf
Spent a wee while looking at the Boughton L+HPF and think I have the circuit figured out if you're interested dood. Could draw it up for you. Will be adding one to my own "to do" list! Speaking of my "to do" list, it doesn't seem to be getting any shorter... And just to add to it I've ordered a Mad Professor Blueberry clone kit from Pedalparts. No intention of building the Mad Professor version but it's a good starting point for the bearfoot or bjfe version. A few part omissions and a bit of inventive wiring will do the business!
You've got the L+HPF? How are you finding it? Yes, yes please I would love to see a schematic for it Thank you so much!
5. I've no idea! About £10 ish? I've not got any boxes but if you wanted to arrange the courier I can hand it over when they arrive.
6. Ok, I'm back, as requested - I've used some house scales (and I can't vouch for it's accuracy) suggests that the cab is 12.8Kg - It kinda feels like it should be lighter. Hmmm!
7. here's a pic whilst I am here: (Open in a new tab will supersize the image and turn it round the correct way. It appears BassChat doesn't like these external links)
8. Hi! Yes! Of course, to start with, a rough measurement is H= 16" D= 15" W=15" I need to find some scales to weigh it, but it's a very easy one hand lift, that's for sure!
9. Zoom MS-50G and Mooer EQ still available and you can buy both together at a big discount. UK shipping is included in the price.
10. Nice little bargain to be had. Pictures coming up soon.
11. New details, read above.
12.
The Hypergravity doesn't get good reviews on Talkbass, sounds like it doesn't colour the tone enough for what I want.
I guess it depends on what sort of colour you want? I mean, it can but the default settings are very clean. For example, rather than have to stick with what the designer gives you, you can build in your own EQ curve in to the preset, then save it should you want to change and come back to it. I've reviewed many a compressor pedal, so it'd be interesting to find out what TB doesn't like about it. YMMV IMHO etc etc etc
13. Add the TC Electronic Hyper Gravity (tweaked with the TonePrint editor) or if you aren't a fan of lots of knobs then I reckon the new Bass SpectraComp will be a winner. TC have dropped a compressor based on the studio standard that is the M series processors in to a pedal and I think it's brilliant.
14.
Sweet! Plus the 1. I love BC too for just this reason. Glad you got one in the end - plenty of scope to mod the beast. Just 30 secs on Google got plenty of hits (mostly Talkbass, but hey). I still run mine stock but with a bit of effort I reckon I could do some of the bass mods (and you're not a million miles away either if you' like yours done at the same time ) Ian
Hey Ian! Thank you! Yes, brilliant - So far he natural mid boost is ok as I'm using the mixer output to soften the top end too. I think I'll stay stock for now but I like the 'Banana Mod' I think it is to pull the mid bump down a bit. Possibly worth looking in to. I might have a look at an HPF and gain stage for the input too, but I'll test the theory with some extra hardware before I get the iron out! Yes, you're not too far away! A possible 'mod date' ha ha should I get the urge to try some things out! Cheers
15. I've reviewed both the OB-1 and have also had the pleasure of reviewing the new OB-1 300 combo a few months before it was released to the world. The very first one in fact. Follow the link in my signature to see it in action.
16.
Was it a standard or mod monkey? I preferred the standard myself .I found the best out of that pedal is the treble full and the bass just slightly off full ,gain at 10 and volume to suit......in a valve amp them settings were fantastic
Standard and so far, I've enjoyed using the mixer out looped up for a dry blend. Also feeding the pedal with a bit of boost from a compressor pedal sounds cool as well.
17. So here's a nice little update to the Bad Monkey request! (and thank you to those who have suggested some really cool alternatives) I love BassChat, it's full of really good people and one such came to my rescue and offered to send me their own Bad Monkey pedal to try out. Such a kind offer - but one thing led to another and we swapped some of our kit to seal a deal. I am very pleased to say that I am now a rather happy bunny as I own a Bad Monkey! It's making some great sounds in my set up already and I haven't even got to tweaking yet! Thank you so much Japhet, you're a star!
18. I'm taking the Roland Interface and DI boxes off sale for a moment but the Zoom and Mooer EQ are still available separately or as a deal together (see above)
19. Yes! Of course you'll need software to actually play the sounds and possibly an audio interface to plug in too as on board sound cards on laptops can suffer from latency (a delay between pressing a key and hearing a note from the computer. On the off chance you have an iPad, I recommend the Novation LaunchKey USB controllers (I have the 49 key version) which happily works with laptops and desktops, but will plug in to an iPad further lightening your load. No audio interface needed either. With a wealth of apps at your fingers, it's great fun too.
20. Top 4 have now left the building, the Ibanez Tubescreamer is off to a new home soon so that is accounted for too. The Roland and two DI's I am taking off the list for this weekend, there's something I want to try out. That leaves the MS50G and Mooer EQ - BUY BOTH AND GET THE MOOER FOR JUST £20!!
21. There are, unfortunately not a massive amount of 'line level' effects units on the market that are in the same budget as the B3. They tend to be leaning towards the 'professional market' and thus the effects quality is better and reflected in the cost. Some of my favourites include: TC Electronic G Major 2, TC Electronic G-Force, Eventide and Rocktron. None of which are specifically bass units but have a whole host of different effects on them. I am currently using the TC Electronic G System which is a superb machine and central hub even for external pedals too. The only way is then up and you'll be entertaining AxeFX and Kemper dreams!
