1. I suspect sponsorship may be a major factor
2. GB Shuttle 9 worked well with the UL2 4x10 when I had that cab, as did the Tecamp Puma1000
3. I use a Midget T and Compact, very loud with a Streamliner 900, easily as loud as a top class 4x10. I do most gigs with the Midget T, it is easily as loud and deep as the EA nl210 I had before. Worth having the Streamliner 900 giving 500 watts at 8 ohms, the Midget takes it no problem.
4. WOW, I'd like to hear one of these, the Midget t and Compact are very good, so I can imagine what that's going to sound like!
5. If you have 2 x 8 ohm cabs, it's worth running one from each amp, it gives you slightly more watts and each amp has less strain on it. I've been doing that with 2 x 8 ohm Barefaced cabs. Interesting that the approx. 600 watts in this mode from the Tecamp doesn't give much away in terms of preceived volume against a Shuttle 9 running 900 watts at 4 ohms into the same cabs. Iain H
6. Sold pending the usual!
7. Tecamp Puma 1000 for sale, with gig bag. About 2 years old and in excellent condition. Spec as per web site http://www.tec-amp.com/index.php?id=137 1000 watts @ 8 ohms bridged, or 2x500 @ 4 ohms. Pics to follow, probably next week. £550 delivered in the UK. SOLD!
8. I bought an epi ul4x10 which I really liked, but the bulk and weight (only 63 lbs) became a pain after about a year. Now using a Barefaced Midget t and Compact, so easy to carry and just as punchy and loud with a shuttle 9 powering them. Iain H
9. Very happy with mine, it needs a bit of bass boost on the amp, but handles it well.....done most of my gigs with a single midget t this year, I also have Compact to add for bigger venues. Talking of grill rattles above, my EA wizzy 10 suffered from this. I was sent a repair kit by EA, but it still rattled with deep bass.....had to "bodge" it myself with foam rubber between the bottom of the speaker and the port. Have not had any unwanted noises from the BF speakers.
10. http://barefacedbass.com/product-range/big-one.htm Check this out. Light, but big deep sound.
11. I'm using a Barefaced Compact and Midget T with a Shuttle 9. Does what it says on the tin.....very light and loud. Bit of a difference from my 90's Trace 4x10 combo lead weight!
12. I have a Shuttle 9, although I haven't tried a 6, I've read it's a warmer and fuller sound. Perhaps a 9 max if you need more flexibility? I like the 9 because it gives me 500 watts@8ohms into a Midget T for small gigs.......good thing is it covers larger gigs as well and is really portable. I have a Tecamp Puma 1000 ,which I really like, but I find I'm taking the shuttle to gigs at the moment.
13. A P bass with labella deep talking flats will do more than changing your amp.
14. I got "frying" noise from my 2 month old Shuttle 9 today when I switched it on.(mute still on). Went away on re power but worrying. I swapped the tube with the spare I had bought "just in case" and cleaned the valve base with servisol 10. It's OK now, but how many people are having "valve" issues? Iain H
15. I'd be surprised if you any better than the Barefaced midget t. I know it blows the wizzy out the park and is only slightly bigger and insignificantly heavier. I'm using 2 of these where required at the moment and subjectively they equal what I was getting from my UL4x10. Most gigs I only need 1 midget and GB shuttle 9, giving 500 watts.....haven't heard it fart out yet, whereas the wizzy10 breaks up quite early on, and is very mid present and needs bass boosting. I believe upright players like them. Hope that helps
16.
Ooh, exciting! And that's one of the loudest fattest 4x10"s around.
Can't wait to try the Compact/Midget combination, should be stunning!
17. I used 2 Midget t's with a Shuttle 9 at a rehearsal last night for the first time......brilliant, feels as loud and deep and clean as my old epi 4x10. Great job Alex. Iain H
18. If you go for a Midget, consider getting the tweeter, unless you like "old school" only. It really helps you cut through and it's only a couple of pounds (weight) more.
19.
You do hear a lot of people saying these amps aren't loud, but I disagree. It's clean all the way to the max, and I think people perceive loudness in distortion, so they feel it's quieter than it is. Also, the level knobs are linear. So when you're half way up, you're half way up, not three quarters as with most amps. I think a lot of people don't set their pre- gain right either. Speaker efficiency is bound to be important here too; Ive only ever used mine with my BF Midget, so I can't compare, but the Midget is an efficient cab.
I had my Micro 550 full up, input and master gain into an 8 ohm epi ul2 4x10, yes it did not distort, but you could really feel the compression on an amp that was not giving any more. By comparison, the Shuttle 9 gives about the same level into a Barefaced Midget T (brill speaker!)with no feeling of compression or loss of headroom at only 50% input gain and 50% master volume......no comparison for me. This is my experience with a Micro 550, but everyone has there own views. All imo
20. Barefaced Midget T is brill, did a 500 seat venue, no pa support with shuttle9. massive bottom C's on 5 string, no farting. On the back of this I sold my Epi ul410 and ordered a Compact to beef up the Midget in big gigs, but I think I'll be doing most gigs with Midget only. It was a close call on ordering a second midget as it is so good, but I weakened and thought the Compact will give even more big bottom.......we'll see!
21.
Hi All, I know its all subjective and all that, but does anyone own one, or tried one of these amps, or can give me an opinion on them?? Thanks, Steve
No where near 500 watts, Shuttle 9 is much better if you don't need the 2 channels and mic input. Very well made but doesn't cut it volume wise. I didn't think the Micro 500 had any "life" to it's sound, very sterile.
22. I have a Tecamp Puma 1000 and Shuttle 9, both sound great, you should try them before buying anything. Tecamp has a bit more big round bottom, but also great hifi top end.
23.
Love the bass. What a beautiful blue finish
Thank you!
