8. These guys make great covers in various thicknesses http://www.jenart.com/ I've had 4 covers now and personally like the 10mm thick covers, they don't fold down flat, but offer good protection. Highly recommended. I have one thinner 5 mm cover, it folds down pretty well.
 9. I bought my Fender P bass new in Autumn 76, but the date on the headstock is 77, so as has been said the dates can be way out. I was lucky, this P is really good, but I bought it because the "almost" new 75 jazz I had bought a month or so before was really crap...fret buzz, offset bridge etc. I could only afford the P bass when the jazz went back to the shop, but I guess I was lucky and got a good light P bass. I've still got the original bell covers,, only the original knobs are gone, they corroded to bits in the 80's, but I wouldn't sell it....my kids will get the money some day when I'm gone! So what I'm trying to say is, you will need to play a few if they are available, don't buy blind, there are very good and very bad ones about.
 10.
Ah I see. Hmm, I have settings but none of them are 'gig' settings yet. I was a little apprehensive about mixing, but I had an in depth email from TC (Uffe who seems to be behind the design) and he stated they are designed to be mixed. There is science that says you shouldn't, but damn it, it does sound good! I have dual 210s coming and a 212 so I have all options covered...the 12s do sound nice but I also wanted a vertical 4x10. The threads on talkbass are great, I'm sure they could help out. My advice would be to dial down the hi mids, boost the bass a few clicks, and fiddle with the centre freq. It's got great options...the most extensive eq I've used before. It is worth mentioning the first time I ever heard one in GuitarGuitar, the settings were awful and 'wrong' with the preset volumes way low. Next time I tried it properly and now I'm hooked!
These TC amps are reviewed as being a bit dark.....Try a Tecamp Puma 1000.
 11.
Thanks Chaps The radius of the board doesn't put me off too much. I have a Squier Jazz, that has quite a heavily radius on the board, and that chokes quite easily when bending a string. Never realised that the CIJ versions were heavier. The main thing that puts me off the Jap basses is the resale value seems to be pretty poor, considering that the retail on a new one seems to be around £1K now. A well looked after MIA seems to hold it's value really well, and I keep all my gear minty mint I'm not doubting the build quality of the CIJ, I've heard nothing but positive comments about them
Watch out for slight offset bridges, making the G string a bit close to the edge of the neck. I had an 75 jazz back then and most seemed to have the same problem. I notice on the reissues I've seen, they have the same "problem". Maybe some like this, but I was forever pulling the string off the side of the neck.
 12.
Sound advice, however after due consideration I feel I want to live out the remainder of my days with my danglies still attached. Also after consideration I decided to tell the vocalist to stick to singing. The 2 guitarists and the drummer are cool with the Ray in the mix as it is and on some of the 'softer' numbers I agreed to try the Perception fretless to see if it added anything to the general sound.
OVERWATER JAZZ?
 13. Excellent condition with padded covers, these are going for less than the normal rate. Located in Ayrshire Scotland Would prefer pickup, but will consider shipping to UK. £500 the pair. NL210 500watts 8 ohms CXL112 350watts 8 ohms
 14. This EA CXL112 is in "as new" condition. Comes with padded cover. 8Ohms, 350 watts. Most gigs done with my NL210, so this cab was not heavily used. Would prefer collection...location Ayrshire Scotland. Postage would be at your expense. £275.
 15.
Thanks mate. I'm seriously tempted by a F1 or F500, but the voltage thing is an annoyance. I suspect the same as you to - purely a 'market segregation' thing. Especially annoying when I see the new GB Shuttle 9.0 - bags of power, many good reports, etc. I'm still not sure about the valve pre in it, but if it's clean enough it sounds like a winner. I'm going to try a couple of heads once I'm in the US in Jan. MB are up there, but we'll have to see how it all turns out...
I thought Markbass were similar to EA's micro in that there is an internal jumper to change mains voltage....for some reason they don't want the general public doing this. My iamp micro 550 is simple to change, but you have to remove the top cover to do it. In terms of power, the 550 does not seem to be a "loud" 550 watts. Having said that, it does work beautifully ay full volume. I find the tone section to be poor for bass guitar and am considering getting a Tone Hammer, this I hope will help. My main amp is a Tecamp pumu 1000 which I'm really liking.....much better than the EA iamp 800 it replaced, probably because the preamp offers a much more usable tone adjustment for me. I could never get a good "round" bottom end on the iamp, it just boomed more. You should try the tecamp stuff before making your final decision. Iain H
 16. I had the 200 watt Sunn concert bass in the 70's (Colosseum's little brother), it's was good at that time. It's solid state, the colosseum is 320 watts I think. Entwistle used quite a few of them, I had the pleasure of hearing them in 76. That's why I blew my student grant on the Concert bass. Not a lot of low end, I ended up using an MXR graphic eq in the fx loop to get some low end. Eventually a Cerwin Vega bin got that bottom out of it....they called me "megawatt" in the band, it was loud at thet time. I would think a Colosseum now would require some TLC......it's getting on a bit in years. Iain H
 17.
I think it's something to do with this. This only happened since I put something into the effects input and outputs (headphones, I DID ask where to put them! ) and it started, i took them out of the effects input/output (cant remember which) and it stopped, but then another time 30 minutes or so later it re-appeared, I turned it on and off and it was fine...
Lots of people had problems with the Genz Benz Shuttles when they first came out, problem caused by the "make/break" jacks in the send and return. I wonder if these amps have been lying aroung for a while and the "closed" contacts of the send/return are causing the hiss. Just another theory!! Try cleaning the jacks with Sevisol 10 . Iain H
 18.
They all do that...
Thanks!
 19. I got my UL2 410 today and while trying it at home I noticed that the input gain control on my Puma doesn't reduce the signal to zero when it is turned completely down. Has anyone else noticed this? It's not a problem, but I would like to know if it's just my amp or do they all do it. A/B ing the 8 ohm UL410 with my EA NL210 bridged ( at low home level!) shows a similar sound, the 410 having a bit more depth as you would expect from a bigger cab with twice the speakers....but not a huge difference. Gigging on Sunday, so better test then.
 20.
Have you guys had the same experience with the fan etc ? cheers Si ps. easy lift upstairs to van ..
The fan runs at startup and then goes off till needed...this is normal. I haven't noticed any hiss from my puma1000 and it's driving an EAnl210 at the moment, so the horn would show up hiss if it was present. There was noticable hiss on my old iamp800 thro' same speaker! Getting an 8 ohm UL2 410 on Friday, so full 1000 watts...should be good i hope Iain H
 21. I got my gigbag for my Puma here: http://www.musik-schmidt.de/gb/manufacturer/tecamp Covers are not listed here at the moment, but they could probably get them for you. Iain H
