1. Hey, I love Coilte, he introduced me to the floating thumb technique! And point taken on the underrated/unknown business
2.
Marvin lee aday, I thought
Correct, but I'm quoting Fight Club.
3.
How does he gets to work with so many amazing artists? Nick Beggs.
Totally see what you did there.
4. I want to fire a set of flats on my JB, but not sure about tensions. I typically use .045 - .105 nickelwounds and like a slightly higher tension so I can dig in, but flats are a whole different kettle of fish to me, never tried them before so don't know Jack about tensions etc. I'm thinking either the Fenders or LaBellas, but can anyone advise on the tensions of these at my regular gauge please? Also, will they be alright for thru-body stringing?
5. Coilte, you seem to be getting awfully pedantic here.....
6. Much cop? The guy's properly outstanding. And as for Kajagoogoo, the bass work was fantastic back then, too.
7. Why is everyone calling him Meat Loaf? His name is Robert Paulson.
8. I think they are, by a country mile, the ugliest.musical instrument ever assembled. But here's the thing: They sound absolutely AWESOME! That Ricky sound is massive, just kills me, and if you add a pinch of fuzz? Goodnight! But that body? I just can't do it.
9.
I would not have thought so. The vast majority of opinions about him, that I've encountered, have been positive.
And yet still underrated.
10. I love it when Andrew Strong sings it, but that apart, it does my tights in!
11. Sir, are you looking for anything specific in a trade?
12. I think he's massively underrated. Great player, great teacher, top fella.
13. Thanks for posting the specs. I have smallish hands, that's why I'm asking. It's stunning. Wish I could try it on for size but I'm Scotland.
14. May I ask........what's the nut width on this animal, and how is the neck chunkiness, in comparison to say, a Fender Jazz?
15. Trade?? Dang. I thought you were only after a sale. Congrats anyway, beautiful bass.
16. Ordered! Tell me.....how did you do it? Did you draw a template?
17.
I covered the nasty cheap looking red tort guard on my Harley Benton with self adhessive vinyl. Cost about £2 and took all of 5 minutes including taking off the plate and putting it back on when I was done. Could just get a sheet off dark grey vinyl of eBay?
You, sir, are a flippin' genius!!! I never thought of that!!
18. What do you want your bass to sound like? What style of music do you predominantly play? How versatile does it need to be? How big are your hands? Answering these questions will narrow down your options some, and you will be left with an easier choice. You may find the right bass for YOU can be had for £400-£500 and you can spend the rest on sweeties!
19. Had one and swapped it as, like the OP, it wasn't right for me - but by 'eck do these things sound good. GLWTS.
20. Dang, were she only a five-string....
21. I just want a dark grey plate for my Jazz bass. Not finding one anywhere
22. Huge fan of Jamareo Artis' Bruno's bassist. Great player, great tone. There's a collab with Bruno and B.O.B. - I think it's called Nothing On You - extremely tasty bassline. Bruno seems to be running through his influences, one song at a time. I think he's a talented dude, and his band are excellent.
23.
I had a Chord OC50 octave pedal. I really liked it, but sold it in the end when I got a Boss OC2. The Chord tracked as well as the Boss and was slightly more aggressive in tone.
Interesting. I can see one of these coming my way soon
24.
Will have nothing to do with it, IMO. Clack is because you are putting too much into the string for the action of the bass. A more refined touch will deal with that .... but if you don't want that..then the way to tidy that up is to raise the action.
Makes sense to me. Action raised. Clack gone. Thanks to all for advice
