1. another one for Right angled into the instrument. The only jack failures i've had, have been straight angles sticking out the bottom of the instrument and banging on me or something else. Also broken one output jack through putting pressure on it by having the straight jack resting on me and then breaking the jack on the inside of the instrument. Only use right angle now.
2. well if you're a mental health nurse you probably do need your head examining
3.
No, pal, the guy with the Mexican Fender refusing to trade doesn't need his head examining, he's just looking for a specific ACG that he actually wants.
Ha! Scott apologies... it would have helped if i'd clicked onto the link showing your P Bass for sale and showing what ACG you're after... missed that part of the discussion my point was that someone with a mexican P bass declining to trade with an ACG (unless specifically after a particular one or a specific sound) needs to seriously consider the value of the trade and instrument they are being offered. If i owned a mexican P and someone offered me an ACG i'd drive about 200 miles that day to trade before they changed their mind! (no offence to mexican P bass owners )
4. if you're after a specific sound for a band situation i'd go with the squire cv and buy it cash. there's no way i'd every get rid of my ACG (the guy with the Mexican Fender refusing to trade must need his head examining!!). Just get the cheapest nicest tool you can for the job, and then you have a back up bass too
5. that's a really great post man. good to hear it's going so well.
6.
I've started looking out for the "other" definition of upside down, where you put the bridge on the headstock and the tuners by the control knobs ...
This was close as i could find.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-eY92vw9qI
7. as said above... depends what you're prepared to spend. The AKAI MPK88 gets good posts on the Facebook page i'm on relating to modern keyboard sounds and loop controllers etc. I use a Novation Impulse 49 as my basic 1st midi controller and it's decent for only £200. However i would say it is on the basic production quality and feel. It works fine, but doesn't feel like good build quality. When i've really got to grips and want to move up i'd probably be looking at the AKAI. there are plenty of other options but depends on your price range!
8. what strings should i get to achieve "that sound?.... please tell me. Also should I use it through a 4X10 and 1X15 stack? Can I play this if i use a music stand? and do you think it'll go well with analogue or digital pedals.....
9. wish i'd been close enough to bag this.... #firstworldproblems (for me!)
10. well lets just say the price for one just plummeted!! but personally no way i'd risk something as expensive as a bass finding its way safely out of Russia at this moment in time. they'll probably be "confiscating" or "inspecting" like crazy trying to stop capital leaving their country at the moment..... i'd personally never buy a bass from abroad as tracking down the person who just nicked your cash is impossible and the foreign police will just laugh at you for losing your money. I always laugh when i see people in Estonia or Barcelona or somewhere trying to sell a beautiful mint condition Fodera etc. with 1 post and 0 feedback wanting you to buy a £3-5k bass unseen from Europe.
11. that's more than understandable. Like i said, there's no way i'd expect you to post it and if insurance is loads, it's not worth it. If you ever are coming down south, please send me a message and i'll see if we can make something work. Cheers man
12. out of interest are you doing any travelling down south over christmas? no way i could make it to your neck of the woods to pick it up, but if you were coming down as far as bristol / london way, i could make the 4 hour round trip from where i am. no way i'd expect you to post / courier something like this unless you have a very sturdy box with lots of padding.
13. Bought a Mooer Green Mile OD pedal from Jon. Was dispatched immediately after payment very well packed and arrived in perfect working order.
14. As God would have it, I may have the chance coming up to convert part of an old church into a recording studio / practice room.... needless to say I am fairly excited that this might be exactly what I need to get my teeth into. So much to research and plan, but could be great. Found lots of great info here.... http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/index.php
15. this is what you need to happen https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNVOmuVRtAo
16. let's hope there are some health and safety warnings near the handles.... "If you can't pick something up without hitting yourself with it, go find someone with a brain and get them to pick this up for you"
17.
I don't normally use compression, but recently bought an mxr pedal and set it up in a pretty subtle and 'standard' way. I didn't really notice the difference, but after the gig I was surrounded by fanny - pretty much had to beat it off with a sh*tty stick to get out alive. I'll try it again next week, and if the results are the same I'll post my settings
I have the MXR bass compressor and don't think i got the same version as you and mine doesn't come with a built in fanny magnet!!
18. i'm gonna go and buy a can of worms and have a look in there......
19.
It's the only way we can guarantee you're not getting illegally produced counterfeit by unscrupulous individuals.
think this gives a view into Doug's mind about how he views what is going on...
20. he could offer them to darkglass if they're still on speaking terms and just ask for compensation for the time effort / materials he put into making them. If they aren't on this level it doesn't mean he can just sell something he's not supposed to sell. whenever a business partnership dissolves people lose money in wasted stock. the law is still the law whether you built it or not. obviously if he's still allowed to sell these items because he built them, then fair play to him, but it seems darkglass aren't too happy about it....
