1. another spector http://basschat.co.uk/topic/241070-fs-spector-ns4cr-ibanez-1305-pm/
2. Mate you will find a decent used warwick on here no probs. i use an active warwick $$ german made and it is great. u can find one for about £500-£600 no probs just be patient. there are some fancier ones with nice woods for a bit more, but use don't gain much aside from the looks. e.g. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/240559-price-drop-now-l850-custom-order-warwick-corvette-special-edition-no-4142-zebrano-matched-headstock/ i also use a spector and the tone is amazing. one here for £600 with a couple of repairs needed. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/233289-spector-euro-4nscrfm-l600-inc-postage/page__p__2508656__hl__warwick__fromsearch__1#entry2508656 i also use a lakland 44-02 deluxe with bartonlini pups and it has a really great warm sound that you can tweak for a great variety of sound. Warwick with $$ is really versatile and massive variety of tones. Spectors are amazing and really distinctive. Lakland is the best to play if you are after a slim neck as it has the thinnest neck front to back of any of my basses. Be patient and buy 2nd hand. if it's not the right bass for you, you can sell it on for next to no loss.
3. another +1 for RME from over here. sounds great, really high level quality. also agree with the advice of spending a bit more on a quality interface at the start. unless you know for definite that you only want a fairly ok basic recording with no intention of increasing quality then i'd spend a bit more and get better quality otherwise you'll get something basic and then when you hear it you'll wish you'd spent and extra few hundred quid. you'll only want to upgrade in the future anyway so why not start off with something better at the beginning?
4. +1 for the set list. Music that is totally up my alley, however it was on last Saturday but nice songs
5. this is a really useful video and will explain the steps people have described above https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SI9_uLN-YWA
6. this section i found interesting But I'm sure I've read that dispersion is critical? And you'd be absolute correct! A single 10" does have better dispersion than a single 12" which has better dispersion than a single 15". But what about two 10"s or two 12"s? If you stack them in a vertical line then they maintain the dispersion advantage but place them side by side and they act like a ~21" or ~25" wide speaker which means the 15" outperforms them by a significant margin. So the ever popular 2x2 arrangement of a 4x10" means it has worse dispersion than a 21" woofer. It's due to this dispersion issue that midrange drivers and tweeters are smaller than woofers, and also because they don't need to move large quantities of air because they don't deal with lows then there is no benefit from making them big.
7. crikey that is a can of worms!! it goes against most things I'd read about speaker diameters and low freq response, but barefaced make amazing cabs, I will try to get my head around that!! My understanding had been that the larger the speaker diameter the better and more rounded bass freq would be, below say a Low D. What the have written makes sense, but it's difficult to imagine 6" drivers outputting low B's anywhere near as well as a "15. Or is it saying that you would need 6x6" drivers to do what 1x15"/18" driver would do to the sound of a low B? For me on a personal level i've always noticed how adding my 1X15 to my 4X10 makes a big difference to the sound, but i will now have to go back with open ears and see if it was more of a placebo effect
8. If i have missed people talking about your cab sizes apologies for doubling up, but my advice would be (as well as getting the right bass with right string gauge that you're happy with), if all of your cab's are under 15" get hold of a 15" or 18" cab for extra depth to the sound of the low notes on the B string. It seems like you were getting a loud shouty sound out of it when playing up the fingerboard (higher notes) but struggling low down. You may find if you're running a 4X10 that adding a 1X15 or 1X18 to this will improve your bottom end massively due to the size of the speaker working better at lower frequencies.
9. Sorry conan my writing close to midnight may have not been clear. I was attempting to state how great the ACG sound was after only an hour of playing certainly not picking fault with it. I find it so full clear and vocal and beautiful and i'm going to stop talking before i have a crisis!! My point want more for the guy commenting about his Warwick Streamer $$ that i feel it is due to the overall Hotness of the Warwick MEC$$ pups that might mean he finds that difference. The signal coming out of Warwick active $$ is so hot in comparison to every other bass that I own. possibly it is this contrast that causes him to find the ACG pup system weaker. For example if i was to gig the Warwick with another of my basses and wanted to switch between them, I would use my VT Bass Deluxe pedal (which has the ability to connect 2 basses to it) and one bank of preset with the volume level set much lower for a Warwick $$, and would boost up the overall volume level of any of my other basses (unless i was running the Warwick in passive mode).
10. oh and on the treble noise point, the pickups in this are probably the most noiseless pickups i've played with (although i have not played it through my Avalon U5 and listened with studio headphones, when I do i'll let you know how the treble noises compare, and i haven't messed with too many settings yet, although i've had fun with the filters!)
11. *Disclaimer I have only played the ACG for an hour total* I tend to agree with Peter above. The ACG has an incredible and very clear tone and i think his point about the articulation is exactly the right way to describe the difference. I have a german corvette $$ and it has an amazing tonal variation available to it, amazingly different in a more conventional tonal palette, whereas the ACG has a more unique tone options available. (i love my Warwick $$ and will never sell it as it was the bass that inspired me to get better due to it being the first top quality bass I owned and suddenly could hear what my fingers were doing, something the lower quality PUPs on my 1st basses never let me hear) Possibly what you are pointing out is the strength of the signal that comes out of an active Warwick $$. The only bass i own that produces such a hot signal is my US Spector with both bass and treble boosted to the max (you wouldn't do this in normal playing). I find the Warwick's signal so strong that some of my pedals don't work well with it due to the hotness of the signal (i click it into passive mode if using with pedals). I think there is also a lot of brightness and overtones because of how clear and sensitive the MEC$$ pups are. I can certainly say with having done no faffing with the preamp options (5 pages!!) in the ACG that it has arrived with an incredibly vocal and sonorous tone with some great options that I look forward to playing with!
12. Just picked it up from Reggieboomboom and had a play for half an hour. what a stunning bass..... really incredible sound, it's actually lyrical and it sings beautifully when you go up the neck and play with some vibrato. really really happy i bought this bass!!! G.A.S. cured for a looooooooooooong time!!!
13. just finished having my first play through........... WOW!! I've never owned a bass that actually sings, just play with a bit of vibrato and it sounds incredible!! thanks for a great bass and great delivery!!
14. For those interested I decided to go for the ACG as it makes much more sense and think it's an amazing looking bass and not a single person has had any issues aside from Scooby with the weight issue. I'm really excited to give this a try and if it's not for me, i can always shift it on and not lose any money. Worse comes to the worse i can pick up a Limelight in the future as I have begun talking to mark. For those interested Mark's speed of response to my email was excellent and I will update you all with my thoughts on the ACG when i get it sorted with Reggieboomboom. Thanks for all your responses!
15. thanks guys. really appreciate the thoughts. that has really clarified my thoughts too. made a decision much easier. thanks
16. Cheers Muzz. very much the thoughts that had been going on in my head too.... hence why I opened the floor to all of you lot
17. EAD you are totally in the same camp as me (i hated the concept of owning a Fender until i got a beautiful red jazz bass from Clarky and it's gorgeous to play). Eude thanks for the links will listen to them sooner. I think they are totally beautiful and have always wanted a single cut bass have heard very high praise for ACG. Thanks for the thoughts so far!
18. Hi all, never one to normally post and ask a question as I normally read all the useful info you guys put out there. Having *another* case of GAS as I saw this and thought WOW!!! http://basschat.co.uk/topic/236720-acg-finn-custom-single-cut-4-string-price-drop-to-l900-free-uk-delivery/page__fromsearch__1 But I also really fancy a Limelight relic'd P Bass as they look gorgeous and I don't have a P Bass and it'll fill the final hole in my tonal armory and will be a workhorse bass that i'd be happy to carry around with me and not get dinged up. They will prob come out at very similar money, so my head (and most of my heart) says go for the ACG as it's bloody gorgeous and I can always come back and get a Limelight in a year (or 2 months ). It's been hard to find any sound clips of the ACG aside from someone playing a Finn 5 string https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OwaUZsvY0zY Just be interested in opinions....
19. bought a vtbass deluxe pedal. picked it up from his house. everything was totally fine and works. recommend doing business with him.
20. In case the previous pages of people haven't convinced you to trust Clarky, let me add my approval to dealing with him. Does what he says, great comms, was very accommodating and understanding.... Bass is great!!
21. Well that's as good a reason as any no prob at all, just didn't want you rinsing through credit. Really quite excited to get my hands on this
