  1. I have some unexpected volume jump buttons on my bass for just that reason!
  2. Ooh - from where? Need one for my 5 string P.
  3. Thanks! Was almost tempted to get the Westone rod that was on ebay yesterday, but that wouldn't help in cutting down!
  4. Communication is never much of a strong point with them!
  5. I can't believe you got to the end
  6. The artecs are fine. If you are fiddling round to see if this bass would be any good to you, it seems a good choice. If you are going to be recording your next album, maybe I would go a bit more to the east or to a glockenklang.
  7. Unfortunately one of our favourite venues is like that, no separation between the band and the group with people pushing past and knocking your mic over or into you, can get a bit wearing sometimes. And then once some guy fell through the drum kit, took a bit of effort to stop the drummer using him as the drumkit. And normally an overly drunk woman will fall over a monitor that she should have been near.
  8. So just for clarity, you had two guitars, two leads and two amplifiers? Personally not sure what an ampjack is apart from a high voltage distribution system (that would really buzz). I assume you don't get loud buzzing from the rumble if nothing is plugged in? If you plug a lead into the rumble and touch the other end of the lead (the centre not the outside, do you hear the hum when you do that? If so the amp is ok. Did the ibanez work before this event or hadn't you tried it for a while?
  9. We used to have a regular place 25 miles away (I know a lot of you travel a long way but we don't). We had agreed pay with them, which was a little more than they paid the other bands by £60. Then one day we went to get paid after a gig and they had decided that we would get the same as everyone else, without telling us beforehand. So we argued but they wouldn't have it. Then they asked us if they could book us for a few more gigs in the year. Other than that, the only other places that we dont' play any more are places where there is no audience.

You just know that is going to end up better than anything they made in 1958!
  11. You just love painting really don't you
  12. It does say on their page 'closed for the foreseeable future', which might not be so promising. The local guitar shop to me does that too though. Would be good if they did it to your own design, but it is just premade stuff. However, the results do look very good in person.
  13. You call your band what you want. I doubt it will be controversial, you will probably get booked for a few EDL or UKIP events, and excluded from normal pubs, but I presume there is some money in there.
  14. Its a 42mm neck, so it was irritatingly only just too wide.
  15. That’s the nut I got for my fireman, and still have as it was too wide!
  16. I don't really know bass solo, but I would assume a higher end would be more useful, so a E-C strung bass. Pickups wise, I just got a hohner B2V with Aguilar pickups in it and they sound nice.
  17. The arrival of the black B2V in these photos means that the red B2 next to it now needs to move on, i have too many basses and can't justify keeping both (and I don't play 4 strings really any more). I have had this bass for a several years, it has been to every gig I have ever done, but not ever been played at a gig, it is just small and easy to put in the car as a backup. However, at an audition when playing my dingwall they said they liked the playing but hated the tone and did I have another bass, so I got this out, and got the gig, so it has earned me a bit. It has a few dinks and scratches, it is in ok condition for its age (that said I have no idea what its age is). It is a passive one. Its always in tune and doesn't seem to be affected by anything, so it is a great backup or travel bass or main bass if you live on crowded stages. Not really after any trades as I am trying to trim the herd, but although feel free to ask. I can put it in a hohner gig bag, and if you want to pick it up from yeovil or meet somewhere in the south west, the new one came in a hard case so you could have that. Or I could post it. Pictures - its the red one:
  18. I got Genesis trick of the tail digital remaster, and then physically threw it out as it was so awful. By changing some of the levels and parts they had increased the echo on some of the guitar parts that it actually changed the time feel of some of the tracks, and I absolutely hated it. I certainly wouldn't buy a digital remaster if there was a choice.
  19. The first add I answered in JMB was the band I was with before this one that was a startup band - we went for a year and a bit, and did 40 gigs or so, so it doesn't seem that unusual, then when that fell apart I put another advert in and joined the band I am still with
  20. Agreed - but the OP does say that they had agreed that this time they would look for gigs. So its more about trust then action, I doubt anyone would have a problem if at the start of something it was agreed you wouldn't be gigging.
  21. I must admit to being one of the 'if we hadn't started looking to arrange gigs at the 3 month stage I would be looking for something else' types. But only if I was really enjoying the band for those 3 months, otherwise I would want to be gigging much quicker.
  22. or put your wrist on the pickup cover? I must admit to not being a fan of covers. The look good on the right basses, but I don't really get their point apart from that retro look. The squier 70s P bass I have came with a bridge cover, but that got in the way of where I want to put my wrist to damp the strings sometimes. Looked good though.
