  1. Cheers Paul, Both of the Squiers are completely stock. I've been toying with putting an hotter pup in the Squier Mustang and changing the loom (as the tone pot has very little effect on the sound) but to be honest the sound in the mix is fine as it stands so I'd be tinkering at best. The bridge is pretty good on this one, I much prefer the period correctness as opposed to the bbot that's now on the Mex Mustangs, it could do with some better tuners at some point though - I think these are the only weakness in the current Squier Indonesian offerings. The pups in the Jaguar are much hotter than both Mustangs which is part of the reason that it's been relegated from back up duty as when I switch basses on stage I just swap over the wireless dongle and don't want to be messing about with a switch/level pedal. The body wood on the Squier Mustang is basswood and lends a decent heft; the Jaguar though is Agathis which seems to be as light as helium (causing a bit of neck dive) and has the consistency of cheese (fortunately the paint job has the robustness of Kevlar so its still totally ding free); if I hang on to it I might look out for a better body for this at some point and have a wacky paint job. One thing I would note is that the necks on the Squier basses are excellent, great fretting, good adjustment and take any action you'd like. IMHO, better than the neck on the CIJ re-issue which has adjustment at the body end and can't take as low an action.
  2. 3 Shorties in my lineup, all for use in the Glam band. The silver sparkly one is the header, a 2012 Squier Mikey Way sig Mustang...took some tracking down that one. First back up is the 2002(?) Fender CIJ comp stripe Mustang, only has this a short while and it’s just had a fret level and set up so will be getting it’s first outing this weekend. Last but not least, bringing up the rear is a silver Squier Jag SS, cheap as chips but punches well above it’s weight.
  3. I once heard that the trumpet section was added after the track had been ‘completed’ and they had to fit in as best they could....don’t know if that’s just anecdotal.
  4. I'm also an engineer, based in Yorkshire and use phrases like 'It'll be reet'
  5. I think mine was GG's first album - think I was about 8 or 9. It's such I shame he turned out to be a nonce as we would definitely do a few of his numbers. Ironically, last year we supported the Glitter Band and they did some of his numbers - it was a very mixed reaction with the audience......
  6. Hard sometimes Blue. I nearly always get a crap sound on stage when I use a Mustang, but the 'sound lady' always said it sounds great FOH, it was only when I started going wireless again that I could come out and check the room and verify she was spot on. Doesn't help the on-stage vibe though...
  7. You could go off someone y'know
  8. Glam Fever.......no prizes for guessing this one.
  9. Starry night finish.....very special. Would love a Sterling 4H in this finish
  10. Think it depends where you're listening from? I generally use a Mustang with the band. On stage, I hate the sound, woolly, non-distinct, flatulent. FOH it's a great sound, lovely thuddy and well balanced in the mix.....
  11. Smoke on the bloody water!
  12. I think a fair bit depends on the type of band you are. If you're a archetypal 'pub rock' band then your average WMC reception (in these parts at least) will be tepid in general. I go out with a 70s themed Glam Rock outfit and have always gone down well in WMCs as it seems to gel with the age demographic. Totally true about the absolute silence required during bingo though.....
  13. I've found a fair difference between EBMMs. My 2001 SR4 (fretless) is fairly skinny front to back whereas my 2016 SR4 Starry Night PDN is a fair bit chunkier. I love the Sterling neck and already miss my US Sterling SUB (bass reduction forced by spouse.....). I'll have to get another one at some point.
  14. Definitely can be. I'll always give one a chance but if the dreaded clique (usually involving 30 minute renditions of Hey Joe) rears it's head then it's a one-visit thing.
  15. Very nice. I have one of these and they are a bit special. Also the sound is a bit different to other Rays I've had in the past, somehow less 'spikey/fizzy' with more low end and punch - don't know if that's something to do with the neck construction and SS frets? GLWTS.
  16. All power to your elbow mate! If I only played what I like I'd be lucky to do 10 gigs per year.
  17. I like it but then again my taste could be considered suspect.....as I also like the Starry Night PDN Ray.
  18. 79 - 82....still my favourite period of popular music ever.
  19. You ever played Northern Working Men's Clubs HJ.........a combination of The Doors, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Diana Ross and The Supremes would fail to move them from the 10 rounds of bingo?
  20. Well I bought a Rick 4004Cii for my 50th......that 'learned' me. It wasn't with me on my 51st. For my 55th, I decided on a Breitling as I was less likely to swap it for a bass down the line.
  21. Honestly, a genyooine USA built EBMM Sterling SUB for only 400 pounds Sterling. Great bass in great condition that’s looking for a loving home and helping me keep clear of the divorce court. You can’t go wrong!
  22. As some of the above comments, if it's a genyooine 63 P bass then it would be sensible to approach any 'improvement' process differently to a 2018 Squier P bass. I've had to 'improve' my 2005 EBMM Sterling Sub USA, I'd have preferred to keep it stock but the horrible sticky, flaking paint on the neck convinced me that intervention was required. This was remedied at a fair cost which would never be recouped if sold but made the bass far more playable.
  23. I’ve edited this to open up again for a final price of £400. This will only be available for as long as a bass that I have got my eyes on is still available.
