  1. In my covid induced brain fog this morning for some reason I started thinking about signature basses, life the universe and everything. After a few minutes I realised I wasn't going to get too far on the latter 3 but I did continue to think about signature basses and my realisation was that, without any conscious intention, I have ended up with 3 of my 6 basses being signature models; a JMJ Mustang, a Mikey Way Mustang and a Chris Wolstenholme Status S2. So on this, of those of you owning signature basses was it on the same 'coincidental' basis or was it a need to own the bass of your hero(es), or if you don't have one is it because you think they are a bit naff?
  2. The GPU thing is crazy. I was looking for a gaming laptop to use for astro image processing (as it's easy to add RAM/Storage) and couldn't get one in my price range at any of the physical shops. However, online at one of the physical shops it was just a few clicks to get one delivered from central warehouse to local store. So while there are shortages I suspect UK distribution is also an issue.
  3. At 100% tone I preferred the US, as Lozz said, better definition. On 0% tone though I think I preferred the Squier, the US was still a bit sharp on the tone.
  4. I used an EB0 in a classic rock band for a while, yes it was a bit toy like but it sounded ok. The neck dive did me in after a while though. Happier with Mustangs.
  5. Had a great gig at a small private club in Mirfield last night. The club don’t normally have bands on but wanted to liven up a Saturday night. Two great sets with them up and dancing from the start. Mugs of tea provided gratis and rebooked for NYE. Even had time for dressing room selfie shenanigans.
  6. Really enjoyed you guys (and gals) at Sheff City Hall a couple of years back Pete. Heartily recommended.
  7. Yep, using guitar tuners on a bass I'd always considered to be a recipe for disaster. The tuners on this example are a little stiff but work ok and keep tuning pretty well. I don't tend to use this bass on gigs but I wouldn't have a problem with using it should the correct opportunity present itself.
  8. Very nice. Still looking for the elusive SN Sterling 4H........rocking horse poo.
  9. Gig life is slowly returning to normality and the one per week pattern has resumed. Audiences are still a bit smaller than normal with our older age group demographic but what they lack in size they make up for in enthusiasm. Last night was a great WMC in Royston, they loved their glam rock.
  10. Mick Karn and his Wal Fretless John Taylor and his Aria SB1000 Chris Wolstenholme and his Status S2 (I would say that)....
  11. Very nice Nick, glad that I don’t do the ‘drop in’ to my local Sheffield shoppies or I fear I’d be stuffed!
  12. Mikey Way Mustang? Passive humbucker right in the sweet spot. Shouldn’t be too expensive but becoming rare as rocking horse poo. Reverb has one up in the states at an extremely ambitious $1050 ish.
  13. The only bass I (currently) have that has financial-emotional strings attached is my Chris Wolstenholme sig Status. My mum gave me some birthday money shortly before she died and this part funded the bass. I think I’d really struggle to part with it now even if I didn’t like it.
  14. It was mate, a CIJ reissue from about 2002. It was a really nice bass but I found I was using my Mikey Way Mustang more than this one so I eventually let it go. Still tend to use the Mikey Way most but that's more because it feels like a pair of comfy slippers on a gig...oh and the large flake silver glitter finish lol.
  15. Another thumbs up for the JMJ. I've had a few Mustangs, Squier and CIJ and the JMJ has been the best of the bunch. The pickup is excellent and has a great variation in tone. As ezbass says, the relic job isn't to all tastes but it's executed fairly well (it's nicer than the Limelight Jazz I used to own) and it does make the bass feel more playable (the finish on the neck is very comfy).
  16. It is, finally managed to get another Status after letting my Streamline go some years back.
  17. Can’t beat white LEDs.....sorry not a MM.
  18. Thread tidied, can we avoid political comments please, it never ends well.
  19. I went for an audition with a Mod/Jam tribby band at short notice armed with a Status Streamline. Nailed the songs but didn't get the gig for unspecified 'don't think you're the best fit'. I think they expected me to turn up dressed like Foxton armed with a Rick. Irked a bit but I think it worked out for the best....
  20. Well respected these but they rarely come up at decent prices. Enjoy.
  21. That olly White one I bought off you was awesome, one of the few basses I regret selling.
  22. After spending £1000s and £1000s over the last 4 decades, I’m back to doing most of my gigs with a cheap Squier Mustang. It’s like a pair of comfy slippers.
  23. We’ve had 2 gigs cancelled in the last 3 weeks because of local spikes in Covid-19. We seem to be having a cancellation rate of about 50%. Hope you got lucky 😊
