1.
I had a 55-01 DLX and really loved it but it was just so damned HEAVY! definately something to watch out for!
Just to even out this thread a bit. Regarding Skylines: The weight is definately something to watch for, the DJ5 I had was ok at ~10lbs and nicely balanced. The Bob Glaub on the other hand was a bit over 9.5lbs and not balanced so well - I I only kept for about a week and was glad to go back to my MIA P bass. The positives for me on Lakkys were mainly the sound but for build quality, I prefer the MM's I've had (and Ironically the MIA P bass I currently have) tho TBH this only was with respect to minor paint imperfections and (against the MM) hardware - this is just a personal opinion tho. As with anything try them out and see what you think. Gotta be honest tho, I would love a go on a US JO4.
2. I guess to an extent it depends what you want. On my P bass I like it to sound fairly 'dull'. I haven't changed the strings since buying it mid last year, dont intend to change them until they start visibly wearing (dull grey stretching marks over the most common notes). On the Ray I like a bit of zing - so change maybe once every 6 months or so. BTW boiling never worked for me - anyone else ever found this work? - are the EB string wipes any good?. Also, if you've got a nice active circuit and don't want hyper zing you can usually dial back some of the high freqs on the EQ, then just change when they go 'dead' and lose sustain.
3. Don't count mistakes - you won't make any - it was meant to be like that There isn't a gig goes by without me making clangers and that's on a set we've been playing since God was a lad. Enjoy Saturday - hope it's the first of many.
4. Been down this road meself. Had a 1990 MM Ray, sold it and bought a Sterling last year. Really liked the Sterling neck but somehow didn't like the smaller body as much or messing about with the controls. Sold it after about 6 months and bought another Ray. Your mileage my vary....
5.
Hi I emailed you straight back to let you know there will be a delay and asked what you wanted to do. I assume you did not not get the email? Regards Mark
Sorry Mark - my Bad. I'm on hol and couldn't check my email from this pc. As there's a backlog I'll cancel my order if that's ok and sort something with Nick, Cheers, Mart
6.
Hey all I am out of stock of these LMII bags after a mad run of sales! I will have lots in the next couple of weeks in the new and cool look :-) Mark
Hey Mark.......does that mean you're not going to debit my CCard? Your site didn't tell me you were out of stock when I ordered?
7. As above - beautiful bass. Unfortunately neither my Ray or P bass are more than 4 years old (plus the Ray used to be yours!). Neil's a great guy to deal with. Bank holiday bump.
8.
Nice Ray. How does it sound through the yellow eyeball? And what about the Trace combo? I'm guessing the Mark Bass sound is a lot less coloured (ironically ).
Still playing around with the MB rig at the mo so no fixed opinions as yet. Early impressions are that I prefer the TE combo with my Precision and the MB with the Ray. I always found the TE a bit 'fizzy' and live with the Ray (and my old now departed 2 bander too) but spot on with the Precision - guess there's more experimentation to go on. The MB seems to tame the Ray a bit, but I guess this is more due to the 15" MB cab (seems to have more low end than the TE) - if I was using a 2x10 or 1x12 MB cab I guess this would be different.
9. Cheers Rich. I liked the Colour Scheme on your old S1 Jazz so much I bought the Ray equivalent. Not had much chance to gig the MB as yet - still using the TE (its a long story) but hope to press it into service in the next week or so.
10. Here's my little contribution - with the 'obligatory' Stingray.
11.
just gone with eude's advice and bought a dgms from bassdirect - £25 delivered Cheers guys ;D r
+1 Hope Bass Direct have plenty in stock. Can take the LM250 out of my lap top bag now...

14.
The Tort guard is all I'd do to it. If you love the sound, there's not much point in changing the bridge. Are you going to use the thumb rest or is it going to just get in the way, Marcus? Rich.
+1. My MIA Jazz is a mirror of this pretty Squier. Anyone know where to get the US style TS pickguards with the truss rod cut out? (sorry for the hi-jack)
15.
I thought people came here for advice - and IMHO that includes advice on selling, even regarding the price. If I put something up for sale, I would like to know if other people think I'm asking too much or too little - and that actually has happened to me already, here. This is part of what makes this a community of bass players, and not a marketplace like eBay or Loot.
Good point, and for this reason I think it's fine as is. If you don't get offered what you believe it is worth then withdraw it. If you feel someone (buyer or seller) is giving you the runaround move onto another punter.
16.
Unfortunately Aharon you are doomed to failure as you can't get a Stingray 4 with a selector switch for series/parallel/single.
Think we've probably all pm'd him with this little nugget..................................doesn't look like my SR4 w/o switch will be going anywhere soon then
17. Mid Nineties - height of Britpop. Our agent packed our 5 piece Britpop 'tribute' act (mainly Oasis, OCS, Kula Shaker covers) to a club on a caravan park on the Yorkshire 'east coast'. Arrived at the place, seemed ok, set up the gear in a pretty nifty 'theatre'. A few minutes into the sound check a sort of Red Coat turns up and says we've set up in the wrong place and we need to set up in the large bar down the other end of the building. Iritated we stagger off and set up the gear in the new place. During the [second] sound check a guy turns up with a big box full of balloons and what not and asks if it's ok to go thru our PA for his act. We consequently found out that we were backing him up for his magicians act and balloon festival of fun (sic). Not easy to play Britpop to 6-10 year olds. Our improvs of Agadoo and Wig Wam Bam saved us.........................the shame. The worst thing was it wasn't even a pick up gig.
18. Can't believe this aint gone yet Nick. Wish someone would hurry up an buy it and put me out of my misery
19. Nick, you're a bad, bad man. Just about to go on holiday and have no cash blues................the only bass that could have tempted me away from me 2004 model.
20. I was worried about pairing a LM250 (150W at 8, 250W at 4 Ohm) with my 8 Ohm MB 151 HR (rated at 400W). I've found it has plently for medium sized gigs but the 'drummer' is fairly tame - never need more than about 40%. If I need any more I DI but I guess if I was in a 5 piece and the PA was 'weak' I'd go to the LM2 (350W at 8 Ohms). This set up sounds much 'louder' than my Trace 150W 15" combo (4 Ohm). I guess the sensitivity of the cab is also important (the MB is 100db/W) - or is this tosh?
21. Think it's more a case of they're not improving any? Sold a 2EQ 1990 ray 4H on here (pretty good nick) in 07 for just under £600. Sold a mint 2004 black single H on here last autumn for £650. Scored a pretty mint CAR ray 4H from here earlier this year for £600. It's definately a buyers market - £600 for a bass that could serve a pro bassist for a few decades has got to be good news. It's only a problem if GAS forces you to swap and change (like most of us on here )
22. Nick, well worth the wait mate. Please keep this one as I might have to rob a bank if you ever put it up for sale.
23.
Interesting thread this. I traded my Jazz for a BO Thumb a couple of weeks ago (in fact, I think it might be martthebass's old one, which has come to me via another member). The tone is amazing. Knocks anything else I've owned for six. But I have to concede that its not as comfortable as other basses I own. Its not that its heavy, or particulalrly uncomfortable, but compared to my Corvette and Precision, it doesn't quite feel immediately right. That having been said, its a great neck and action, and it sounds phenomenal.
Si, maybe my scales are off, but I think it weighed in the same as my Precision (8.5 lbs) - like you tho, it didn't feel immediately comfortable. It did pain me to sell this, regret it but it wasn't getting used.
