Now if you had a 4 string DJ in black, then I could be pursuaded.
'Fraid not TleB, just got rid of the DJ5 and the Bob Glaub and kept the MIA Precision - there's a lesson in there somewhere.
2. This is God's way of tormenting me. Had £750 and wanted a mint G & L L2500 - unfortunately 2/3 of cash blown last week on Ray's MIA Fretless Jazz. Bugger............. MIA P bass and £250? Never mind - maybe next time.
3. Do me a favour Al, please don't post how fantastic this bass is when you get your mitts on it! I've just about got my Bass GAS under control with the P, Ray4 and (soon to arrive) F'less J. Need to sort my ampage out now.
4. If you wern't the other end of England I would be round yours picking this up by now.
5. Played one of these recently (same colour combo) in Electro (Doncaster). Out of all the DJ's, 44's and JO's it was by far the best in terms of balance, sound and feel - almost made me have another try with Lakland. But it was also £849 - good blag.
6. Good evening everyone. My name is Mart and I'm a Bass Snob. It's been 6 days since I bought a bass and I don't know how much longer I can hold out..... In all seriousness tho, I tend to covert MIA Fenders instead of MIM, why? Does my playing justify it, well probably not. Do I lose less money when I sell trade one, well probably not. Does the audience notice, well probably not. Do I notice, well yes and in my book that's all that matters. Generally tho if a bass feels nice and plays well I'm happy and the only real reason I would go for MIA over MIM is consistency and (of late) the former are a bit lighter. Regarding comments made above on the Thumb. Owned one, loved the tone (kills most Fenders and a lot of MM's) but I know which one I prefer to do a 2.5hr gig with
7.
Don't mean to do a shameless plug but I have a 2x12 one going at the moment. Might be a bit too big for you though. I bought mine from the Bass Centre but I've gathered that they've gone now. I think Andertons sells them though?
Think you're right - similar weight and size to my current set up......bugger. I'll have to wait for a 2 x 10 or 1 x 15 to come along (sighs)
8.
If you want light and GREAT, check out the Eden Nemesis line of combos. I have the 2x12 one which I can comfortably move around on my own and it has loads of power. The 2x10 would definatly be worth a look if you want something smaller.
That looks to be about what I'm looking for. If anyone has got one of these going let me know,
9. ^^ Cheers for the comments above guys. I was fairly certain this was the route to go but KT's comments give me second thoughts. I know the GP7 150SM is the 'baby' of the Trace Range but I rarely have to push it beyond 2 o clock for the pubs I play.
10. Very very very nice Rich
11.
Think you are going to struggle for light weight on your budget. Not used MarkBass myself but the amps do seem better than the cabs.
May be right. By lightweight tho I'm not talking Neo cabs, I'm still this side of 70 Was looking at trying to keep the cab to about 25Kg and a lightweight amp (<5 kg) For example I wouldn't rule out something like the EBS 2 x 10 in the for sale section if it would 'work' with something like the LM250? If this sort of combination is 'sonically' inferior thant the TE then I'm inclined to soldier on for a few more years with my existing set up.
12. ^^ Hence the confusion........................
13. Well I've used Trace Elliot Combos for about the last 15 years - always been happy and never had one go out on me. Usually keep the unit for about 5 years. Well the 5 years is up on my current GP7SM 715 1X15 combo. Problem is I'm not so keen on the current TE combos both in terms of sound and price. Also I was thinking maybe it was time to look for a solution that was a bit lighter than the 32Kg unit I've currently got. I only need about 150 - 250W and 1X15 (or maybe 2 x 10) - don't ever push the set up, if I need volume I DI (so a XLR out is a must). I was thinking of a used MB 151P for the cab with a LM 250 - any opinions on this set up or anything better for my limited budget. Talking of which I was looking to get the LM 250 or 151P first for about £250 - 300 (used) and add the amp or cab (as applicable) later on - again about £250 - 300ish. Is this realistic? Also what would be a realistic expectation for selling the TE - pretty good nick - just a layer of gigging 'dust'. Cheers, Mart
14. Having recently acquired a 2005 Ray4 with maple neck (oil finsihed) and fretboard can anybody give me 'simple' advice on cleaning up the slightly grubby fretboard. Didn't have a problem with my old maple necked Ray as it was laquered (1990). The MM forum contradicts itself on this topic some suggesting Lemon Oil is fine - others saying 'no way - you've gotta use the Ernie Ball wonder wipes (which contain orange oiul anyhow so WTF?). While I'm on the topic what do you use on the back of the neck? (don't have any 'gun stock oil'). Cheers, Mart
15. A bump for a great bass. I know there's been some controversy over this one but it really is in good condition with only minor surface marks as befits a 3(?) year old bass. If you like a P bass with a harder edge (think Green Day meets Fall Out Boy) then you won't find anything better for £500. Good luck with the sale Ade
16.
OK my GAS has kicked in big time for this - just waiting to hear back from Gwilym!
Is this how you're gonna spend your fee for the BGM interview?

18.
I've never seen anything like this when other people have bought basses on here, and then sold them on ebay, they haven't exactly kept them in this 'community' either. At the same time, i do see the point some people are making here, but there is no need for the constant attacks and nastiest! Some people in this thread do give this forum a bad word, and it certainly does put me off the forum. There is no need for it Especially with younger bassists like me that use this forum. This is for bassists, not a place to get one over on someone. so if people are going to call this a so called 'community' are we going to make it a sociable one? Zoe x
+1 Can we please call an end to this now, I don't think it's constructive.

20.
I wasn't directing my comment at you or anyone in particular and I was just generalising about that bass. Peter had it up for a while, gradually dropping the price, then Mark had it up for a short while, then yourself with the price gradually dropping etc. It did 'seem like' that bass was on here from start to finish for quite some time and people weren't selling limbs to get it regardless of how much the price was reduced. I'm not siding with anyone on this issue. I'm trying to play Devil's Advocate and point out that it just happened to be one of 'those' basses (and we've had a few) that people haven't settled on and they are generally good basses with nothing wrong with them. However if a bass is going to skulk around on here like a kicked dog it may as well be put on eBay and find an owner elsewhere. At any given time in that basses time among its various owners, one of them could have stuck it on eBay but no one did. That's a choice that people made for whatever reason. TBH had I been struggling to sell a bass on here and someone had taken it off me, stuck it on eBay and made a profit I'd be applauding them. At the end of the day I'd have gotten the price that I had offered it at The point about any deal re. the pup for the bass, is a separate issue that I'm not familiar with.
No offense taken WH and TBH in general I agree with you. On this occasion, had I had the time I would have ebayed it rather than reducing the price. It's a shame that this bass has not found a loving owner, I think that this can be general problem with 'modded' basses. If ths bass hadn't sold here I would've probably had the LF pup (which was offered at a very reasonable price) and taken it back to standard.
21.
I don't quite get this people! This bass sat on this forum for weeks and was reduced time and time again... no one put their hand in their pocket and bought it. We all expressed interest and wished that it was this or that but at the end of the day someone pulled the folding stuff out and did what no one else had done, they bought it. What happens after that is pretty much immaterial! I'd have serious doubts about putting something back on here after it had been passed back and forth between 3/4 owners in as many weeks and had seen a price fall of £150+ in that time... it starts to look like a Jonah and would seem to be a waste of time and effort putting it back on BC, no body wanted it when it had 3/4 careful owners, who the f*ck would be serious about it after 4/5 owners? It's not like we are talking about some one post wonder who has snagged a bargain on ebay and then tried to flip a quick profit on here. This bass was offered to one and all for a v e r y long time and we all passed it up. Let it rest.
This isn't totally accurate. I bought the bass after it had been up 2 days and sold it within a week(ish).
22. As the 'last but one' owner of this bass, a few comments: 1. I have no problem with Ade trying to make a profit - the market is the market. 2. There is nothing fundamentally 'wrong' with this bass. It didn't work for me 'is all. 3. The money from this bass was used for the purchase of a Ray4 from a fellow BC'er at a 'BC market price' as opposed to a 'ebay market price'. If I hadn't bought the BG I could have saved a little cash but we all have to learn lessons in life If I had had more time I would have probably sold the bass on the bay for £500-550 (I'd be surprised if it makes £625 - but y'never know) but I needed a back up bass quickly so............. In terms of forum 'spirit', that's down to individuals I guess, I generally try to do deals on the forum and also give BC'ers first crack of anything I want to sell. However in the current market I believe it is true that you could probably get more for some basses by selling on ebay. Ade's a decent guy and I don't believe he had the intention of doing a 'Dave1066' and flipping at a profit, however I hope this doesn't become a pattern in general for BC deals or members may reconsider offering on this forum first. This would be a shame because it allows good basses to come into the hands of enthusiasts who otherwise may struggle to afford the level of quality gear that goes thru our collective hands. Now back to the day job................
23. Sadly the law of supply and demand still holds. Unlike Houses, probably best if you're a buyer than a seller at the mo (assuming you don't need a mortgage). Having said that a nice Fretless MM got away from me on ebay last week and went for over £700 in the end (after I'd paid £600 for a near mint fretted MM on here in the same week) so..................
24. You really don't want to sell that. Sell all your Jazz types and get used to it!
