1. My first (good) bass was a P bass back in 1982. Moved onto Jazz/Ray type stuff in about 1985. Bought a MIA P bass last year - had a bit of an epiphany moment and I don't think I'd be without one now. The one and only 'plug n play' bass. Regarding values, I'd agree. Last year I think (for CIJ, MIA) prices were pretty low, reckon they've moved about +10-15% since then. More modern stuff seems to be a bargain at the mo (assuming it ain't a classy 'copy' e.g. Lakland).
2.
Gibbit. I'd love to take it off your hands but I'm in Surrey. Have a bump on me.
Dagnabit - if you're interested let me know, sure with the bassist typical big brain a solution could could be found.
3. I can confirm this is a very nice bass (helped to build it me'self) and Pete is a more than straight up guy to deal with. Anyone who hasn't had a go with a fretless graphite neck needs to at least once in their bass playing career - sub millimetre action (joke) and almost never needs adjusting. It's definitely originally a MIM2001 - I took the original (fretless) neck off - subsequently sold to Road Dog. Good luck with the sale, Mart
4. That's a lovely bass Nick - pity I've no cash.................Amex? Good luck, Mart
5. Cheers Neil, think we're all skint for Easter Somebody please take pity; the Wife want's to go shopping for cars, my [lazy] student daughter won't get a job, the dog's ill, I've seen a new Jazz bass with my name on it, I have to work 5 whole days a week for a crap company, c'mon. Not working is it?
6. I've got my eye on something over this easter madness so I'm bumping down to the ridiculously low price of £550 There must be some Warwick love on here somewhere?
7. Well, what can I say, I love this bass. Cracking sound and love the feel of the natural wood. I GASSED for one of these for ages and I've really tried to get used to it in a gigging situation but swapping between jazz and P type and this causes me grief. Its a 2006 build in mint condition and owned by me since early last year. It's been regularly waxed and pampered and not overly gigged. Comes with Warwick gig bag (so collection only - sorry no posting) and the normal (excellent) Warwick owners pack (minus about 1/4 tin of wax). Ideally I'd like to trade this for a Jazz type, Fender MIA or Lakky Skyline JO/DJ (or even BG) - would consider throwing in some cash against the right bass. 4 strings only (I have enough bother with my DJ5). For straight sale I'd like to get as close to £580 as poss, but enjoy the fun of negotiation Pics below:
8.
I'm going to give both new Statiis a good hard gigging this week & see how I feel then. I'm in love with the new KingBass, so no danger there! Rich.
Good Idea, that should cure it
9. Don't do it Rich, you're just bored (like me) and fancy a change for changes sake. Alternatively, you could buy it and sell the $$ to help fund it (the pain )
10. Nick - what about the Shuker P5? Hope he hasn't routed it yet - need room for 2 pickips now....
11. Hope that works out for you Nick. I played a Charity gig with the DJ5 last night - had to go straight into the desk, hardly heard a bloody note all night. Could have sworn on a few occasions I was on the 'wrong' string - nobody seemed to notice. Is that a reflection on my playing or does no one listen to the bass
12.
PM'd
Backatchya
13. That is a really nice bass at a fantastic price. If it was a 4 I would snap your hand off.
14. Some interesting offers but still looking. Weekend (nearly, sort of Friday feeling) bump
15.
Would you sell it outright? How much for? Just interested.....
Sorry mate, daren't have the cash. As the song goes I'd just blow it on 'Liquor and Drugs'. Just Joking Mods - more likely a new tax disc and nearly a full tank of Diesel for the Wife's 4X4 Oh and..........all PM's replied to.
16. Cheers Rich. This really is a toughy and I could still easily bail and let this become a 'bedroom bass' as I really don't need a 5er for the work I do. The only reason I got a 5 was so I wasn't embarrassed when I turn up at a jam night when there's only a 5 available. It's the 'prettiest, bass I think I've owned and got a killer tone. I think the 35" really contributes to that but also contributes to my hand strain.

18. Well nearly a month as gone by and this still ain't getting used so.... Well, I've had this about 3 months and still not feeling the love. Maybe the 35", maybe the wide string spacing, maybe the extra string - dunno, just not getting it. It's a Maple neck black sparkle 2007 build, in about as perfect a condition as it gets (only been out of the house twice and never gigged). The pictures show a white/black/white pg, this has been swapped out with a black/white/black which looks much better to my eyes but the original would be included. Build is stock with (I believe) Lakland OEM Pups - original electronics - no mods. HSC courtesy of Gator - also without a mark. Reduced final price - £750 w/o case, £780 with: Collected only Thanks for looking, Mart
19. Cheers OBBM, any comments on the sound anyone?
20. Very nice Rich. That should keep the GAS at bay for at least <insert number here> minutes, hours, days, weeks, months (delete as applicable)
21. Well, when I bought my DJ5 it was advertised as coming with Aero pups. According to the 'wise' on TB, these were changed to Lakland OEM recently. Mine is a 2007 build according to the serial, anyone know which pups it's likely to have (there are no distinguishing marks on the covers). That's the anal bit done with - on a more objective side, anyone know the sonic differences between the two types, one better than the other etc? I recall a guy on TB saying that the Aeros in the DJ5 were pants in comparison with the DJ4 aeros, who knows? Personally, I've no issue, they sound fine to me - not felt the need to JRetro or Audere, guess I'm not too fussy, just curious, Cheers, Mart
22.
The only slightly annoying thing was that on a couple of occasions guitarists who turned up then filled in as bass players. I have no qualms about this if it wasn't for the fact I actually knew the songs they were being very approximate with and even out of practice could have made a better job of (and I'm not a hot player by any shakes) but I was hanging around like a spare part. It's all about *who* you know at these things. At least I got to play 3 songs after a 3 hour wait.
I thought everyone knew that Guitarists can play any bassline better, faster, stronger than any bassist
23.
My first bass was a 5 string, then my current is only a 4. I miss the 5. I'm not the biggest fan of having to downtune, and I like the extra range at the bottom.
2nd hand Warwick Corvette $$5 if you can stretch to it - if not Corvette active 5 (ash). Play one first tho, if you find the P neck a stretch the Warwick neck might not be for you (it aint a Jazz). Another option - Spector?
24.
As much as I like Passive basses, it's just not working for me anymore.
Don't do anything too hasty Nick. A local bassist mate of mine (in his forties like me but more hearing loss) was suffering the same sort of thing, hard rock/Lizzy type band - so P bass a must They've swapped out the backline and all go through pods and good quality monitors - all forward sound through the 'uprated' PA (inc. drums). I had a chance to play through the set up last year, the stage sound was much quieter but everything was audible and well mixed and pretty much represented what was out front. Is this an option?
