1. WELL................what a difference a few months make when the BC GAS magnet gets going The 'back in black' theme has now diminished so to edit the below: First up is a 2004 MIA P bass that I bought off Nick (Old Horse Murphy). I only bought this on a whim as a back up to the Thumb and it's become my main gigging bass. Nice and light with nice old P type thud (from the ancient strings?). Still here and still the main gigging bass. Second up is a 2007 stock black sparkle DJ5, bought as a bit of a noodling toy, keep toying with selling this but I can't think what to replace it with so it sits (not too unhappily) in the bedroom. The only mod done on this is the addition of the Jeannies black pg coutesy of a fellow basschatter. Now gone to Mr Russ - couldn't get on with 35" and the string spacing. Lastly is a Lakky BG with Villex pup and electronics bought recently from Marcus. So that I don't trip up over all of my basses in the dark, the Jeannies black pg has been replaced with the original mint green pg. This is currently for sale but I'm warming to it so it may stay in the fold for a while. Now gone - bit of a saga this but glad to see it stayed in the BC fold. The replacements, first up - a 2005 Stingray 4H. Nice bass, everybody needs a MM at some point. Bought off a fellow BC'er back in April. Second up - a 1999 MIA Fretless Jazz that gets to go out on acoustic jams, bought from Ray a few months back. This line up as been stable for a few months but with all the trade fodder on here you never know....
2. Good to see yer earlier Rich. The Jazz really is as good in real life as it looks on the photos, Cheers, Mart
3. Cheers Rich. Think I'm going to end up keeping this one. That's no great loss tho, I've spent the afternoon pampering it, putting on the green minty pg and treating it to a new set of Slinkies.
4. Might consider a near offer if cash and collected.
5. All pm's replied to. Still available at the mo.
6. Cheers Jim, Think we're all skint mate. How come when it's a 'buyer's market' I've never got any money? Still it's a lot of bass for the money (salesman hat on).
7. I'd really like to buy OTPJ's S1 Jazz so if anyone would like to buy this very nice Bass.........................I'll reduce this to £500 for as long as OTPJ's Jazz is still available! I'll even throw in a set of new EB Slinkys if you don't like the flats
8. I think rule of thumb is that if I'm selling it's worth 'bu**er all', and if I'm buying the price seems to double
9. Thanks for all the help guys, Cheers, Mart
10.
Not being funny - but do you tell the rest of the band what instruments they should play?
No offense taken and, no I don't - but then I'm fairly laid back and don't get anal about the sound too much. Personally I like the sound but at the end of the day I need a backup that'll get used in the band context. 'Secondly, this is a great bass at a great price, don't let the fact that it's changed hands a couple of times recently put any one off buying it ! It's agreat example of a Lakland BG and a great Precision Bass' Thanks Mark, at the end of the day if the bass doesn't go I'll probably 'Shukerise' it - rip out the Villex mods (and part out for selling) and look for something more standard 'P'. It plays well, is of good quality and is worth the spend, but at the end of the day I would be happy with a stock MIA Jazz so that'd be easier. Cheers, Mart
11.
http://www.cloverbasses.com/polish.html This stuff is the business. Take you time and go through each of the 4 polishes, your paintwork will come up a treat. Looks superb if you do it by hand... looks amazing if you do it with a polishing wheel. I think Thomanns now stock it.
Cheers EBSF, If the scuffs/scratches are minor do you need to go thro all 4 stages?
12. All PMs now replied to - Bass still available. Would also consider a G&L if anyone has one they are looking to move on. Also would consider px'ing towards a G&L L2500. C'mon, It's black-black-maple - gotta love it
13.
Just be careful with it.... Swirls? what you doing with it? Finish like this:-
That looks nicer than my wife's Landrover
14. Thought I'd add a better piccy - sorry about the quality I'm a crap photographer.
15.
What put you off? Too vintage sounding? Not vintage sounding enough? I was really interested in this but when I saw it had gone, GAS got the better of me and I bought a Stingray instead. Consequently, I can't afford it now. Doh! Anyway, good luck with the sale and consider this a bump.
Thanks for the bump, I'm not particularly put off - not 'trad' enough for the band methinks. If I could find a way to justify keeping it I definately would (damn 3 bass rule). BTW, you would have liked it - like a 2EQ Ray without the sizzle. Cheers, Mart
16. Don't do it Mark, It'd be a crime to humanity.....
17.
For serious dings and wear I use Auto-glym (car stuff avaialbe from Halfords) paint renovator and then super resin polish. (For a regular polish I use PRSs own polish. ) What you have left you can use on your car!
It's not really that serious, just surface stuff. I shied away from AG, mainly because when I go at my car with it it can give nasty swirls, also I thought Silicone was bad... What sort of finish do you end up with?
18. This is a record for me. Thought this was just what I was looking for, unfortunately the rest of the band don't agree and after a fraught few hours in the rehearsal room trying to get a sound they'd like I had to go back to my MIA P. I can't afford to have 2 bedroom basses (the DJ5 performs that function already!) so this will (unfortunately) have to go. The full description of the bass is given by Mark (much better than I could) in the thread below. If anyone need better pitures just let me know. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=16060 New price £470 Alternatively I'm up for trade/px with equivalent condition Jazz 4 string types; Lakky JO/DJ, Sandberg or MIA Jazz (preferably an S1). Hey ho........
19.
This stuff from Fender/Meguiar is good: http://www.fender.com/products//search.php?partno=0990512000
Cheers, looks like the stuff - know of any stockists?
20.
It depends abit on the finish and which type of paint/lacquer it is!! What guitar is it?
MIM Strat in a sort of dark solid blue colour, you know the sort of finish that shows every mark. Poly not nitro I'd expect. Cheers, Mart
21. Sorry if this has been covered before. Helping a friend with a Guitar (sorry again), it's in good condition but it has a few suface scratches/scuffs and plenty of swirl marks. He's looking to px/sell and wants to 'cut' the finish and bring back the shine - any body got any foolproof tips/recommendations. I'm loathed to get involved - on the few occassions I've tried it (on old firewood) I end up with dull patches that look worse than the original problem, Cheers, Mart
22. ++ on the above, ater a week Roto Flats have more zing. Bit of a boring old fart, so tend to stick with EB Slinkys these days - seem to last a lot longer to me.
23. Done quite a few trades through BC now so role up those who didn't feel too agrieved with their end of the deal. Cheers, Mart
