1. As it says in the title really - anybody had a chance to try both of these? I'm looking to use one of these with a Mark Bass 151HR cab - I've tried the LM250 and it seems ok but I haven't had a chance to try it cranked up so I don't know if it has enough W's. Also the EQ needs a bit of teasing to get away from the middy balance. So....I'd appreciate any comments on the GB, Ta, MTB
2.
... DAMN!!!
Gotta be quick on here when Nick's got some gear money
3. +1 on Twat. I had a look at this amp while it was on the bay, somehow got a bad feeling - don't know why (sorry). Agree on the police suggestion - but don't know how this helps you if you end up losing the amp and end up out of pocket. Not sure if the original owner (allegedly) would be traceable without S/N or filed stolen report. If you can live with the cosmetics I'd be inclined to put this one down to experience.
4. I've owned 3 MM's for my sins. First up a 1990 Ray4H 2EQ, good classic 'cut-thru' Ray tone and P bass type neck. AlNiCo pups. Sold this to buy a Sterling (2004). Smaller - but mine wasn't lighter, also had a more aggresive tone (Ceramic Pups). Neck was to die for - out Jazzed the Jazz. Sold this because I didn't like the tone or balance. Now on a 3EQ 2005 Ray4H. A bit lighter that the first 2 and to my ears doesn't sound that much different to the 3EQ tho there is some difference of opinion that the 2EQ is much better - I personally didn't find that. Cuts thru like a mutha and hopefully I won't allow GAS pangs to make me sell this one.
5. Very nice NGH, sorry all I have is whats in my sig and the lint in my (increasingly deeper/short armed) pockets.
6.
It's actually ballanced on some mats.
Jim you're more anal than I ever imagined You weren't kidding tho, this is a lovely bass - wish I had the cash or trade.
7. As always 'try b4 you buy'. I love the string spacing on the Ray5 and the 34" scale. I hated the 35" scale and string spacing on the DJ5
8. Hey, one less drummer and one less Guitarist in the world aint going to hurt anybody Just watch tho Nick, you'll have just sold the last piece of gear and you'll be made a 5 piece band offer that you can't refuse...
9. Nick, sorry to hear this mate. Drummers can be @ssholes sometimes. I would have happily had the LMK off you but it's come abit early - band money aint rolling in like it used to
10. I waited ages myself for a headed Stealth 2 - I was looking up to about £1200 at the time, tried a number of avenues but nothing came up. I've had the fortune to play one and they are sublime, very clear hifi tone and the lowest action ever. In comparison the Jazz (MIM) I had with a Status Graphite (Fretless) neck, well there was no comparison. If you're prepared to wait then go for the full graphite solution.
11. J, I'm going down a similar route. I've picked up the 151HR Mark Bass cab which I don't find too back breaking but it aint the smallest beast. I don't play dissimilar stuff to you and a GB Shuttle 6 or a LM2 would easily cover with this cab and medium pubs/clubs (just trying to make my mind up which amp to add - even the smaller MB LM250 can deliver a fair punch thro the 151). Cheers, Mart
12. Cheers S, I'm threading in the amp section regarding experience with a LM250 and a 151HR compared to my TE 1x15. It's quite boomy in comparison to the Trace. Also quite surprised at how much punch the LM250 gave - felt sure I would need the LM2 with this cab - now not so sure I need the extra W's. I think there's a thread on the MB LM2 on here somewhere that suggests the LM2 has a built in compressor/limiter in circuit at all times?
13. Don't know if these count not being a major afficianado but I enjoy playing: A message to you Rudy (Specials) On my Radio (Selector) One step beyond (Madness) Mirror in the bathroom (The Beat) Kingston Town (UB40) Bit predictable.....................sorry
14.
Yes sorry, it was a matter of balancing the EQ on the Markbass to suit the schroeder - which was actually a lot more difficult than the 6 knobs on the front might suggest! It felt like the markbass was really exagerating the natural low mid hump of the schroeder, to the point where even at medium bedroom volumes a certain few notes would be horribly boomy.
Think I'm going to experience this if I go with a LM250/LM2 and that's pairing with a MB cab. How did you tame the boom?
15.
To compare one has to have one
Thought Bass Direct had hundreds of these lying around like expensive shiny paving blocks
16. Well thanks to our very own Mr Cougar who has very kindly lent me his brand new LM250 for a few days, I've had a chance to A-B this against my current TE combo. I'd agree with Eude that it's a lot louder than my current 150/300W TE. However I think I'm going to have to play around a bit because it seems 'compressed' compared to the TE (less distinct/clear) - maybe a hefty dose of EQ is required? Granted this was with a MIA P bass with old strings tho (my lowest output bass - thought it'd give me the best idea of whether this would give me enough volume at a gig. So........before I commit anyone know how the Genz Benz Shuttle 3 sounds in comparo?
17. Tort all the way. Gotta get one for my MIA Jazz 3TS........................how much and where from?
18. Hey, I'm looking for a Little Mark. .........................I'm sure it won't come to that Nick. I was in exactly this situation a few years back - drummer wouldn't practise then got frustrated/angry when chastised for making a b******s of everything. Got me up against the wall with a drum stick half way up my nose once too often and myself and the guitarist walked. For the last 5 years we've had a trio with a singer and dare I say it - some MD backing. Works well, cuts down on the rehearsal requirements and means we can play smaller places (for more money/person). Don't get me wrong, I still miss the fully live vibe but I can usually get this out of my system by going to the odd jam night. Look on it as an opportunity - you might be surprised with the fun you'll have in the semi-acoustic project.

20. I've had a Corvette active standard and a Thumb BO4. Both IMHO sounded the mutts. I personally had no problem on the neck of either and I was swapping between Jazz, MM and Warwick - also both were the 'less desirable' ovangkol necks which according to Talkbass are like bass ball bats? In the end I did sell the warwick Thumb but it was a balance issue - I hated the twice per minute position adjustment on a 2 hour gig. However not everyone has this problem but the moral is definately try on a strap for half an hour before you buy.
21. Thank god it's not just me then. Thought it might have been some sort of noise related epilepsy thing. Yup I get it, but only occasionally and on certain frequencies - cymbals in particular can 'floor' me.
22. All I know is...........it isn't me. However this does help my talent to money spent ratio.
23.
Dunno if i'm missing something but the Pbass seems cheap for the pbass everyone seems to go for Balack on blaco with a maple neck. i fancy it but i onl have a P bass to swap at the moment.
Think its about standard at the mo. I've got the RW neck sister to this (2004), picked up last year - same price. Guess I'm biassed but the 2000-2007 series precisions in 'near minty fresh' are pretty good value at this price point. Also, maybe I've been lucky but I haven't played a bad one in this age range so I don't think inconsistency is the issue it used to be IMHO.
