Just watched a bass related video on Youtube and the bass player kept licking his fingers before playing why would he do it? I can only think so the strings slide off his fingers easier
I've found, since I rebuilt all the FrankenFenders the last time, that I play just the two. Even the super-slim American Special Jazz tempts me not a bit. And I've found I've had many opportunities to go to Mansons and browse...and couldn't be bothered. What would I look at? I'd rather have more space than unused basses! Sure, there's a little bit of me that wants to keep them all, but they just get in the way, frankly. If I'm honest, being GAS-free in this way is a bit disappointing, but also strangely liberating!
Must admit I feel a bit the same I have been through so many basses recently and not because of GAS but I needed to find something that "worked" for me so now I have found what I want I am just keeping 2 P basses and my Thunderbird and I really need the room my house is way to small lol so in the new year I will be getting rid of all the excess gear so will have 3 basses and 1 amp and a few effects

Strap length: been able to play vs looking cool
Thunderbird replied to col.decker's topic in General Discussion
I normally wear my bass quite high but I seem to wear one of my basses a little lower as I just find it more comfy I think it is because the strap is much thicker on that bass so it just sits better lower or I may just be talking nonsense lol -

I think I wanna sell my stingray....but I am not sure!
Thunderbird replied to aende's topic in Bass Guitars
Erm...a US Stingray doesn't have a 'thin and almost jazz-like' neck - quite the opposite, in fact. A US Fender P is more than a grand new nowadays, I'd say they were in the same price bracket...
Now that is good to know I have always thought they looked very J Ialso agree about the price bracket -
You see a ton of ads for musicians wanted/available on Gumtree nowadays or advertise on forums such as this

I think I wanna sell my stingray....but I am not sure!
Thunderbird replied to aende's topic in Bass Guitars
I really really like the look and sound of the Stingray and I always think when I am a half decent player I will get one but the necks seem very thin and almost jazz like and that really puts me off I have been through a load of basses recently and just find a P bass right for me and in all honesty my playing don't warrant a thousand quids worth of bass but if I manage to sell one of the kids I could be persuaded lol.....But back on topic I would keep your Ray I cos if you sold it then wanted another it may not be how yours was as no 2 basses feel the same even though they are made in the same factory the same way blah blah blah -
I was going to start a thread about the feel of round-wounds, but then I found this thread. I don't want to hijack the thread, but has anyone found a particularly smooth-feeling round-wound set? I like flats but I don't think they would suit my new Pawn Shop Mustang.
Picato 735 strings feel very soft to me compared to the D'addarios and Ernie ball super slinkys I have used in the past I dont know if they do them in short or medium scale but I have find I like everything about them and I have been through tons of strings recently most of them were budget strings but of the "decent" brands I normally go for I am really loving the Picato strings they dont feel hard or scratchy IMO

Lied to by Music shop and poor repair work.
Thunderbird replied to SlipperySquid's topic in General Discussion
If it was me I would treat the incidents separately I would demand a refund from the shop for the poor fret dress and set up but as for the amp I think you may be best off talking to the manufacturer regarding the issue and repair as if the shops own "tech" has fixed it it may have voided the warranty even though they sell the gear does not mean that they are authorised repairers so it may void any future warranty but also if you speak to the manufacturers and tell them about being lied to etc etc by the shop they may wrap the shops fingers so to speak as it makes them look bad as well as the shop and also they may offer you a new unit who knows it is worth a try, and what would also worry me is if there guitar set up was that poor do you really want to trust them to fix electrics? I wouldn't -
I think these Vintage basses are great and they are very under rated they run rings around most other makes in there price range
The "speaking length" is the maximum "usable" length of the string. In other words, its the maximum distance you can have between the ball end of the string and the nut. Measure what this distance is, you'll probably find that you need medium or long scale strings, even though its a short scale bass.
+1 that is how I understand it aswell
Picato 735's for me. Not too zingy, nice feel. About £9 from Bandshop.
Really like these strings but aint it typical I find some strings I like and they have put the price up by nearly a fiver overnight B@@@@@s lol

I just picked up a Lomenzo after gassing for one for ages and I really like it I find in easy to set how I like and it also plays nicely with my active bass I have not tried the other pedals mentioned here myself but they do sound nice and there are lots of demos of all of the pedals mentioned here on Youtube
