1. Good on ya mate aint being a Dad just the best thing ever
2.
Vote? What vote? What are you on about?
Ok I went for this option I couldn't give a monkeys - and don't get all this fanboi/hater stuff
3.
Hmmm at most price points I'd still think them bloomin great. Are you talking about new or S/H prices?
New and S/H really as new has a knock on on the S/H prices realistically I would not want to pay anywhere near the 300-350 mark S/H as I have seen them at those prices new (FJB-20 I think) but if some one has paid 700 for a new one they will want at least 350-400 when they sell it if that makes sense?
4. I dont think so they are good enough basses don't get me wrong but with the prices all over the shop on Faridas it really depends I have seen Faridas of the same type going from anywhere from 300 to 750 quid so it is hard to set a "sensible" ballpark price
5. I voted for not giving a monkeys if people want to buy a Barefaced or whatever it may be it is there choice so it has nothing to do with anyone else anyway
6. "If you want to be extra careful you can get a proprietary 'guitar cleaner' from a music store" That is what I do and it is not as expensive as people think bearing in mind you only need a tiny bit at a time but soap and warm water will do the job the only reason I use a special cleaner is that washing liquid can contain salt and that is not great for chrome hardware etc
7.
If you can find any let me know. I can't find any.
Think I am wrong they seem to all be 13.6 so nearer 14mm
8.
Shimming the neck isn't that much of a job really. I'm sure if you search on here you'll find a thread on it or maybe someone local to you could help?
http://basschat.co.uk/topic/49897-how-to-shim-a-neck/ very good guide with pictures
9.
Why do we have tyre kickers on here bump?
There has been lots of em on here recently but most people on here are as sound as a pound to deal with on here
10. I though Wilkinson did 1/2" hole tuners ?
11. I do like to support my local music shop he is a fantastic guy and really knows his stuff and does magical set ups the only down side is he does not really sell much bass gear normally about 4 or 5 Fenders in the shop and a few packs of strings and a few odds and sods I don't really mind this as he is only a small shop and he cant afford to keep a big stock of bass gear as he makes most of his money on 6 stringers and repairs now here is where I start moaning there are basically 2 other shops near me that sell a bit more gear and 1 of them wont stock any thing bass related as he says there is no interest in it so fair enough I don't go to that shop and the other shop in the nearest town to me is a chain store now they have lots of bass gear in stock but the negative is they just seem like they don't care its kind of like comparing your local friendly newsagent with Tesco if you get my drift? and another downside is they seem to employ "kids" who no disrespect to them but they have very little knowledge and just go through the motions to sell gear and get there bonuses. So I tend to do most of my buying on here or on line for stuff I do pop in to my local shop now and again for some strings or set up work even though the strings and bits and bobs are cheaper on the net as I like to support his shop. But it just seems so sad that there are not really any proper music shops around is it the same for you guys in other areas of the country? I know that the day will come where the internet and chain stores will kill off the little shops which is a shame as there would be such a lot of knowledge and skill lost and where would we go for set ups and repairs? I know I certainly wont be trusting my basses to the larger chain store type places
12. I think you just have to change your technique I had to change mine due to hand problems it is kind of like learning the instrument again if you have done it the same way for a long time but worth it in the long run I really do believe it is down to technique and practice and if you are blessed with natural raw talent (which I am not) that is a bonus
13.
It should be fine.
Why thank you kind sir
14. Hi all I am looking in to slightly lighter strings I normally use round wound 45-105 the lighter strings I am thinking of using are 45 65 80 100 my question is will these be OK to use in my bass as in will the nut grooves be OK with a slightly slimmer string in? I know I would have to tweak the set up a touch and am fine with that but don't want to touch the nut Thanks in advance
15. It also depends a lot on how big your hands are if they are big look at P basses and if small look for a Jazz bass I would look at the Squier range but I myself would recommend trying the Vintage brand far better than any Squier IMO and very well priced check out the V4 Icon basses I have one and it is great and should easily be within your budget
16. I love my Vintage V4 Icon it is a cracking bass also love my Thunderbird many gear tarts laugh at the cheaper basses but they are sweet the Vintage really is the nuts for £200 and about 50 quids worth of mods cant complain
17.
Someone posted just the other day about a similar percentage price rise on Picato strings, so perhaps it's not just coated strings. I wouldn't really know as I like my strings deader than a dead thing and buying new strings is a thankfully rare experience.
It was me who posted about the Picato strings then went up a fiver overnight but on looking around most strings seem to have gone up in price wonder if it is because the price of metal has gone up? Regarding the Legacy strings I did not really like them they sounded fine but I just did not like the feel after a while thought they were OK at first I think there is a guy on here who sells cheapish Elixir strings and has other makes for sale, bust must admit I am keeping my eye out for the 735's and if they are cheap enough may stock up and if I cant get those I might try Warwick yellow labels I have heard some good things about them.
18. I love the look of blocks
19.
I'm an inveterate finger-licker. It's because the tips of my fingers dry out so quickly and 'stick' to the strings when plucking.
Makes sense I thought it may be something like that might try it
20.
What a great idea!
Seconded sounds wicked I have never seen that done before
21.
very nice bass how much does it weigh please? thanks
Your not aloud to look gareth you have too many nice basses already so you cant buy another its the law lol.....But wow nice bass GLWTS
22. I did when I went lighter but only a touch stick em on and see how it feels is the best answer I can give you, but if you are trying a really different gauge as in a lot lighter or heavier you will most likely have to make adjustments
23. Anyone got any of these? and if so how do you rate them? I know they are Steve Harris's sig model and how good he sounds but obviously we dont have Steves rig and stuff http://www.soundsliveshop.com/p/Seymour_Duncan_SPB4_Steve_Harris_Signature_P-Bass_pickup/SDUNC-1611402-13?CAWELAID=1935283045&catargetid=1823339655&cadevice=c&cagpspn=pla&gclid=CPba6-XywbsCFTDMtAodTyEAxQ
