  1. I'd assume a new NXT would have NS Contemporary Bass Strings by D'Addario™. You can get NS Traditional also, which are standard on the CRT models. It could be an expensive swap though I think if you buy the NXT and then have to change strings. Maybe you can mute the strings a bit with some foam near the bridge if you did want to tame the sustain. Or put on an old set of double bass strings.
  2. NS Design seem to make some great quality instruments, but as you've found they don't create any decent videos showcasing how these can sound - even the expensive CR range sounds little better than a cheap electric bass to me on most vids. I think anyone wanting as close to an amplified acoustic upright sound as possible would ditch the stock strings and either get the Traditional NS strings or put on normal double bass strings, Evah Pirazzi, Spirocores, Prestos etc to kill the sustain. And the action is usually too low to use a proper pizz technique so you'd raise the action way up.
  3. Supersonic by Oasis. Technically simple to play, but it has some nice little syncopated parts to drive it along,
  4. Hi mate, just wondering whether you had to do the wired-connection thing? I don't have a 100M ethernet cable to run from my front room to the back kitchen, but maybe I'll move to the front room if I can get hold of a cable? The latency is "fair" on wifi, and I'm gonna test tomorrow, so I can report back. The user interface is a bit out of date (by about 10 years a least), but it's good to hear that it works at least. Tips appreciated 😉
  5. I find DiscoverDoubleBass really great to use, and very affordable. Lots of courses available and the website is really good to use.
  6. I think a lot of people will be doing a lot of practising in the coming months. I did a quick search on Youtube and found some people playing bass for this song, no tab, but you should be able to work out from the finger positions. Best of luck mate, let us know how you get on.
  7. Wargirl at Crofters Rights in Bristol last night. Tamara definitely the coolest & best bass player I’ve seen in a while 😎 sad they might have to cut the tour short because of shows being cancelled...
  8. Pub gig planned for next week, though if the country goes into lock down I wouldn't be surprised if it gets cancelled. I don't fancy playing dressed like this either....
  9. Sting’s Moon Over Bourbon St. I’m finding this is great easy piece to practise my sight reading and focus on my tone, and sounds great on upright bass and fretless electric 😎
  10. Funky Habbits - wow !!! Superb tone & playing.
  11. Great video and harmonica !
  12. I grew up listening to Abba, and with two elder sisters, one blonde and one brunette, so psychically I was Bjorn - we were missing a Bennie though.... Incredible songs and vocals. Now I have to go & check out the isolated bass and vocal tracks on YT and obsess about that for the next couple of months. 😀 BTW Gearwise, you only need a blonde wig. No one will give a toss about the bass tone.
  13. If you like a bit of new stuff, Cross-Platform Interchange by Misha Mullov Abbado has some lovely double bass tones.
  14. I think it's the law of large numbers - no matter how tiny a percentage of amazing players, given a big enough population.... That said, it does teach people a little of bit of humility seeing one of these V talented frigging nine year olds on YT absolutely smashin whatever it is they've made themselves a genius at.
  15. Nice tour bus & gorgeous eyes 🙂 @bluewine, there's still time. keep on truckin!
  16. I'd try C and if that doesn't work do B. The jam thing might have just been nerves, I'm not that good myself when put on the spot TBH, so I prepare a lot. It does get my goat a bit though when people 'get their excuses in early', about being rusty/ill/not slept/no time to properly prepare etc.
  17. Great bass & LZ vocals, when're coming to Bristol?
  18. Tracks and bass sound great to me. Now you've got an extra grand to spend on advertising 🙂
  19. Nice playing! and love the bass (I have one also). I hadn't come across these etudes before. I only ever look down on the side of the neck so I only see the side dots, not the fret-board dots.
  20. Well here's another clue for you all. The walrus was Paul.
  21. Later with Jools gets some stick on this forum, but it's had some amazing moments?
  22. Incredible band, loved Dots and Loops, and Emperor Tomato Ketchup, particularly Percolator, which of course has some knockout bass.
  23. We did this on on Monday night at a blues n soul Christmas event, and it went down very well.
  24. Listening again to this track this morning, epic !!
  25. Stick basses tend to be flimsy to play, especially with low-quality end pins. I've tried the Aria SWB and harley benson/Palatino clone, which has a small body, that Thomann sell, and they both moved around a lot. The Eminence has a special foot at the end of the end pin to stabilise it, which I think some people have tried to copy on their stick basses. Good luck with finding something you can play.
