  1. Would've loved to have seen that gig mate, sounds great. I'll be looking out for future gigs. 😀
  2. I'd be surprised if there wasn't a 'pull-out clause' on this site or a whole raft of them in the legal page, check the small print.
  3. Hi mate, just wondered what you meant about a neutral sound when using to record. I'm looking for a microphone to record an acoustic upright bass. I have a Realist Lifeline piezo pickup installed on the wing that I could possibly blend. Also, on the website it says " (48V phantom power supply required for wired connection). " I don't really know what that means - do you need a separate power supply for this mic> Thanks, Pete
  4. There's some useful information on this page: https://www.gollihurmusic.com/product/3432-NS_DESIGN_ELECTRIC_UPRIGHT_BASSES_4_5_STRING_FULL_SIZE_BASS_WAV_NXT_CR.html Cheers.
  5. Thanks, this is useful advice from you and @TheRev , sounds like a good compromise.
  6. I'm using a set of TM Spiro Weichs, which are great, but when I'm playing further up the neck where the vibrating string length is shorter I'm finding the tension still slightly a bit too much. Does anyone have tips on using lighter strings, such as Presto Nylon ultralights or similar. Or should I just butch it out and expect to strengthen my fingers eventually? Thanks, Pete
  7. Sounds amazing - I bet those dead-heads are great fun to hang out with.
  8. I notice that this instrument appears in Bass Sounds II and sounds bloody lovely.
  9. Probably done the rounds before, but really enjoyed this and comparing the different instruments.
  10. If he thinks rap is current... Rap's been around for nearly 40 years - e.g. Rapper's Delight 1979, or my favourite the Message, grandmaster flash 1982. I'd say Grime and drill sound pretty current though, but hardly mainstream enough to replace 'rock', whatever that is classed as. He gets some great publicity though, as if he was some type of music oracle or spiritual guru, best of luck to him.
  11. These are beautiful instruments, and look top quality - I'm sure it'll sound ace 🙂
  12. I haven't tried an Omni but I think you're right about not being better than a fretless. The NXT or WAV is more of a 'standard' length for 3/4 size upright basses, so if you switched to a different EUB you wouldn't have to relearn the shifts/finger positions. That's why I'd go for the longer neck.
  13. Amazing band, so many fine musicians.
  14. Looks great, what sort is it?
  15. I've only briefly tried the Harley Benton/Palatino and the Aria SWB Lite stick bass and they both to spun/rotated. The Far West looks like a quality instrument, though I don't think the bridge is adjustable so I thought twice about that one, as I didn't know how it was set up. The Eminence or Yamaha SLB-200 are both stable, so I hear, difficult to try out though as I'm sure you know.
  16. These look like a great idea for something slightly more portable that a normal width bass, which gets pretty hefty by the time you add a padded case. GLWTS.
  17. I've been doing this chromatic exercise on my upright bass & also on my fretless, and I'm finding it good for intonation.
  18. What is about this talented, successful & professional musician that people don't like? 😉
  19. If you're down London way the Bass Gallery have a red head on their website.
  20. Yes agreed mate. Remember hearing this years ago on the BBC radio 2 anniversary tribute to John Lennon, brought tears to my eyes...
  21. Have you tried to dial in a more electric tone with a preamp or pedal ? I use a KK Pure Preamp (mid, and treble controls plus an internal gain trimmer) to dial in a more acoustic tone if I play somewhere with a tinny PA, so something like basic EQ controls would enable you to get the tone you want.
  22. Ed Friedland's done a nice review on YT, and he had four so must be pretty good...
  23. I guess he's been a professional musician since the 1960s and at the very top end of the business so he must be doing something right, and even if you're just talking about his bass playing, I've have him in my band any day 😉.
  24. Couple of nice 32 " scale Maruszczyks in Bass Direct. I think there was even a Jake 4p for sale on this forum too.
  25. They look great, but as you'll know, there's nowhere you can go and try one out. There is a Ray Ramirez in the Bass Gallery, so maybe next time I'm visiting the Big Smoke I could try it out. Maybe cheaper to hire myself a personal body guard for the evening 😉
