1. Vintage range are very good alternative to Squier http://www.jhs.co.uk/vintagebass.html
2. +1 for Blackie and Hellion Also, Bruce Foxton - News of the world
3. Sounds logical and if you've been used to one neck for a while then change, then its common to get some discomfort. I would stick with the Jazz for a while to see if the pain goes, but if it doesnt then stop. I play bass 100% of time now (used to be a lead guitarist) and whenever I pick up my acoustic six string for a jam, my palm really hurts.
4. Ive always used Dunlop Yellow 0.73mm and they feel great. I would not really want to use anything else.
5. Maybe there is a sub consious side that he doesnt appeal because hes on his own not a band. He obviously has a band but i grew up on same music as you and i loved the idea of the whole band thing with a group of guys. Just a thought
6.
I have 100% positive feedback!
Exactly the same happened to me about 6 months ago. I also had 100% feedback and when I complained via email I got an auto response saying it was because my rating was not 100%. After about 3 emails going backwards and forwards I gave up because they simply don't read the emails. I too am not a business and really needed the cash, but they didnt care
7. Very interesting thread this. I have never not been in a band of some description so I could not imagine playing my bass (or 6 string before that) without being in a band. When I was 13 I dreamed of being on stage so I learnt guitar to become a rock star in a band. Now I am 40 I still dream of being a rock star (although its fading fast) and couldn't imagine only playing my guitars at home.
8. Cheers for your help guys. Think i will pop in and try and get more info
9. Does anyone have experience of Hondo P Basses. Looking for a cheapish bass to do up and there is one in a local music shop thats quite cheap and sounds quite nice

11. Village hall, high ceiling, and wooden stage are all a recipe for disaster so you probably couldn't have done much else. I agree to may be turn down a bit but you will quickly realise the size and shape of venues pretty much dictate how you will sound, unless you have a very good PA system We turn down gigs now if we know its in a room where the sound will be a nightmare
12. A very merry christmas to you all. I hope you all get what you have been dreaming of xx
13. I would imagine this is what happens when a band shoots to fame too quickly without decent management. Sacking the person in the band that got them the most interest seems a very odd thing to do so early in their career. I remember wanting my hair like Limahl the first time I saw him. Very interesting to watch though and agree that they all seem very likeable guys.
14. +1 on the Vintage V4. I picked one up for £70 off ebay and it plays very nice. The EB3 is a full scale neck but be aware of neck dive. When you stand and play the neck will automatically dive to the floor unless you hold it, or use a wider strap. Not the ideal situation you want when just learning
15. I dont think you need to worry about amps and cabs but a cheaper bass for those sort of enviroments maybe a good idea. Over the years Ive had a few people try and grab my bass or go over and pick it up while we are having a break. Fortunately now my band only plays once a month we just pick and choose what gigs we want and would never play at a place where this could happen. My Vintage V4 is a cracking bass that only cost me £70 off ebay so would be a good cheap option to take
16. Obvious choice but for me it would have to be Bill Ward John Bonzo Bonham Keith Moon
17.
I had all sorts of weird typing problems - underscored or italic, no return, had to use the editing thingy in the corner to format the text. I also had problems navigating the site - had to go via links rather than just back, as it would only go one or two clicks back before freezing. Yesterday I changed browser from IE to Chrome and all the problems have finished.
Same here. All my problems on BC I had were when I used IE. I now use Firefox and everything is fine
18. There are dozens of venues round here that fall into your 50-150 capacity. They tend to fall into two categories - Basic pubs that host live music stick you in a corner (small stage if youre lucky) pay around £200 regardless of how many they get in and there is no PA, backline or lighting. Then there is the larger venue that provide PA and lighting but very rarely any backline. These normally give you a portion of the ticket money. They also usually only give you a portiion of the ticket sales from the people who have come to see your band if there is a few bands on same night. (They just ask each punter who they have come to see).
19. Got to be Led Zep one. Every song is amazing and this was a debut album!
20.
once you've all figured out where all the stops are
I am in charge of stops in our band. Nobody stops unless i lift the neck of my bass up. We have the same problem with Town Called Malice. Our drummer would always stop for the bass solo end of second verse instead of after the M8, resulting in the song only lasting about a minute and a half!!
21.
Quality song - have been trying - for years - to get my punk covers band to do this.
Always goes down well and very easy to play....you wont regret playing it
22. If this is still available I would like it but wont have cash till 20th of this month
23. Have to agree its the band that usually use the word 'cheese'. We don't play mustang sally because its not really our genre and plus every other band I know plays it. We try to play 'cheesy' songs that not many other bands play. Last Saturday 'Swords of a 1000 men' went down a storm and I consider that to be a bit cheesy
24. Stray Cat Strut by the Stray Cats. We are only a 3 piece and all three parts are really enjoyable to play so its a joint favourite
